    fabric texture is supremely important to me THANK YOU for addressing that omg

      so glad this is resonating omg, it is the biggest factor for me in purchasing decisions!!

    • @LadyCynthiana
      @LadyCynthiana ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Definitely. I have to remember when buying online to always look at the material, because I can't handle most polyester blends. Viscose is fine with me if it's a bamboo viscose, but my favorites are always cotton and silk.

    • @cararichardson7092
      @cararichardson7092 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      100%!! I will not buy something that’s 100% polyester lol. It’s actually pretty helpful because it really limits what I buy, but particularly 90s and Y2K pieces are guilty of being terrible fabric😢

    • @hamsterfan999
      @hamsterfan999 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LadyCynthianameeee. i dont regulate heat very well. when i see more than 40% acrylic or polyester i know im gunna be a sweaty, overheated, overstimulated mess. especially if its a knit as opposed to a woven fabric. always makes me feel like my skin is burning. i used to think i just hated wearing clothes + layering but nope… just have an aversion to fully synthetic fabrics

  • @LittleRedTeaCake
    @LittleRedTeaCake ปีที่แล้ว +62

    I also have become super aware of fabrics and will not go for most things if they are not cotton/linen/viscose (depending) because I don't like the way it wears or feels. Plus breath-ability. I overheat so easily and so fast that I need fabrics that aren't going to make it worse. This was fun and cute!

      so real, totally agreed! Thank you! :)

      hahaha despite owning soooome polyester (usually just for layering,) I love to be a hater.

    I love the idea of reusing older clothes in more contemporary ways. I love to sometimes even alter things slightly to get more use like changing a hemline or taking off sleeves to turn into tanks. We shouldn’t keep throwing our clothes (or even just donating over and over) just because it’s not on trend and try to make a closet that’s versatile and timeless. I love how ur video shows that. 🥰

    • @beepwrld
      @beepwrld  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      totally agree with this!! I am so in favor of altering, updating, and mending whenever possible. I'm definitely not perfect but I'm always trying to maximize use:)

    The lacy mint shirt is soo excellent. Sheer, mermaid adjacent… Especially with your hair! It would look adorable also with denim or browns I think so yes! Definitely a keeper.

    • @beepwrld
      @beepwrld  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      totally mermaid-y!! currently I'm planning on hanging on to it, we'll see if it gets wear despite the fabric feel hahah

    I HATE polyester and avoid it at all costs, even blends. I wish I knew more about fabrics when I was younger and use my knowledge of it now to help curb my purchases bc I know certain fabric contents will not last. Thank you for helping others learn about this clothing aspect!

    • @beepwrld
      @beepwrld  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It definitely took me time to learn too, but it helps me to consider now, hopefully it helps others too!

    To add to the fabric texture thingy, I also absolutely have to look at labels, but I also learned the hard way how to (not) care for woolen clothes... But also makes me care really well for the items, as I don't want to lose the nicest feeling ones!

    I really appreciate you talking about fabrics! I hate polyester and when I'm trying to find something online but the fabric isn't listed that's my biggest pet peeve. Polyester is the most uncomfortable because you are essentially wrapping yourself in plastic. Your videos always inspire me to try different looks with things already in my closet!!

  • @kslaney4161
    @kslaney4161 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I really appreciate that you talk about the importance of fabric choice! Because it doesn’t matter how cute an item is, if it feels icky on the skin or will age terribly in terms of quality, it is not worth the fit.

  • @tedkelly81

    Material is SO relevant! When I thrift I am much more tactile than visual in how I choose items. It can be an incredible fit, in great condition, with solid construction, but if the material doesn't feel good on my hands that is a quick, confident 'Nope'.

    I so appreciate you taking about the fabrics! I remember in one video you talked about polyester getting smelly & that’s honestly been so helpful! I had noticed that about one of my shirts but didn’t realize why!
    You putting such emphasis on that has encouraged me to consider it more when I shop. Thank you!

  • @TheLunarFire
    @TheLunarFire ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I completely agree about the fabric. I've been doing some thread up browsing lately and have forcibly talked myself out of several beautiful dresses because they were made of synthetics that I know would be ultimately too uncomfortable to wear. I can tolerate a blended fabric as a skirt and I don't mind a little stretch in trousers but on tops or dresses I simply can't wear a fabric that is stiff, itchy, or doesn't breathe so it gets stinky

    • @beepwrld
      @beepwrld  ปีที่แล้ว

      omg I have this experience at the thrift store all the time haha, & I've definitely given in on occasion. But at this point I've learned enough to be more resistant lol!!

  • @KristinMoran

    Fabric content is So important to me. I'm so excited whenever i find a linen or linen blend item. I now shop at a salvage store because it has better selection and prices than the small thrift stores in my area.

    I love this new video subject, I haven't seen anyone else do it! It's so creative, useful, and is a great way to show that trends are irrelevant. Anything can be styled. I loved the outfit with the plain grey tank! If i saw it on the rack I would've thought nothing of it, but you made it look super cool. Love these!

  • @buffienguyen
    @buffienguyen ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I would loveee to style that lacy top in a pastel princess style :D
    and omg yes to fabric texture because:
    1) I didn't realized the reason why going out was so grating on my nerves was because I hated the textures of certain pieces. Now I take textures into account when styling and buying and it makes a sky of difference.
    2) I'm trying to buy more "natural" fabrics so there's less microplastic released into the water source through washing 🥲 but alas linen/cotton clothes don't always fit the style I want

    I think it's great that you are vocal about fabrics. I may not be too particular about how fabrics feel myself, but just being aware of what clothes are made of is a step in the right direction and something we should be discussing a lot more.

    I watched the other thrifted mystery bag video today, so this was meant to be!! I really like how you styled these items, especially that floral blouse you were iffy about. I would love a thrift haul tho bc I keep seeing some gorgeous pieces that seem to be new!!!
    I’m kind of tired of people saying outfits need to be updated and trendy to be fashionable; I know that’s kind of the point of this video, but I feel like there’s so much versatility that comes with getting dressed when we are free of other people’s opinions and focus on what we like and how we feel. So I like that you give less trendy pieces a chance.
    (Not trying to act preachy, I have some bright coral-colored pieces that I struggle to style bc I don’t want to look like an early to mid 2000s mommy blogger as that’s just not my style)

    It's SUCH a shame that the thrift stores get inundated with clothing made from bad fabrics and are poorly made. For people who go to the thrift store for financial reasons, it makes finding long lasting clothes so much harder to find.

    One fashion youtuber who talks about material a lot is Daily Helen, her style is quite different from yours, Liz, but I LOOVE her advice on styling, especially for petite girlies! I too have become so picky with the material over the years (but viscose is actually one of my favs, I can wear it year-round and it's very easy to care for), I had a very pretty dress, but it was polyester and really unbreathable, and I searched for like 3 months for almost the same exact dress, but in viscose, to swap it ☠

    just discovered your channel 2 days ago and binged like half of your videos 💖💖 also, i love this kind of video, u should definitely do more of them ( maybe with pants too 😳). youre an absolute cutie pie. art, fashion are my top interests as well and i also just finished my psych degree lol so your channel is perfect. i was wondering, how did you get started with graphic design? i took a very long hiatus from art and was thinking about trying to do some stuff digitally and even selling it. thank u!!

      omg this is so sweet, I'm so glad you're enjoying my channel!! :')
      I've sort of kept up my art and drawing throughout my life, but for graphic design I actually spent several months learning Adobe Illustrator via youtube and skillshare and coming up with projects for myself and trying to execute them to build my portfolio!

    Trust me you are far from being alone regarding the material/sensory thing! There are materials that make my skin crawl just touching them in the thrift store. Even if the item is cute I wouldn't even dare try it on my body. Sadly over the years gotten more and more sensitive to materials, have even had to give away much loved vintage items. So basically : it probably doesn't get better from here so best stick to the comfiest materials possible 😅

    I'm a vegan and my only options for fabric material in new clothes are mostly cotton and polyester. That's why I love thrifting. I can buy high quality material like silk or cashmere, without hurting any animal. :3

    Only recently I started to give more importance to fabric, because I noticed that the clothes I was donating were usually made of polyester or had some uncomfortable fabric. Which makes me sad, since I don't want to own those clothes because of the fabric feeling, so I imagine someone else wouldn't want them either, but throwing them into the trash would be even worse.
    Also I noticed that polyester clothing tends to look older/more used and feel icky more quickly than natural fabrics.
    I do usually enjoy viscose/rayon though, at least in the clothes that I own, since they're breathable and feel nice.

    What do you do with the clothes you thrifted but can not wear due to sensory overload?

      Honestly, often they sit in my closet for a long time out of guilt, but eventually I will usually try to give them to someone else in my life who doesn’t mind the material, re-sell them, or if none of that works out I’ll eventually re-donate 💗
