I have built many pedals like these for people over the last 15 years - but I just can't get decent NOS Germanium transistors of suitable quality any more - at least not without paying a huge amount for them, which makes it commercially unviable. Also, there are large amounts of fake Ge transistors around, mainly from one particular country, cough cough, - they measure like Silicon - quite high gain and zero or negligible leakage, high consistency, despite the fact that they are marked up as OC75's etc. etc.
Awesome! I am wondering what would be the best MKI "tuninig" for a drop-tuned/baritone with hotter Gibson P90's? I like a good top end but also love how some MKI's have a great low-mid push that really roars! This video is great btw. Just love your sound and aesthetic!!
System tuning will have a little bit more sag on the attack when pushed due to the higher gain nature but the overall eq is more similar than different. Just a tiny bit of low end shaved off at the output helps balance it out with the Sola version. Overall Sola I find the most versatile and less compressed, especially with hotter pickups. Low mids are present in both, to me that’s what the MKI is great at! Both versions have enough treble response to be able to reduce with the guitar tone control and have lots of tones under your fingers. I’ll try to do another video comparing both of them a little more in depth and tuning it on the test box etc… Thanks! Appreciate the kind words!
@@SeekerElectricEffects Thanks Breaux! I really appreciate your knowledge and experience. I haven't tried enough MKI's to know whether they were system/sola. I'm not sure what the Ghost Futura is supposed to be most similar to. But that was my favorite so far (especially one that was higher gain than the other). I tried a Pigdog and felt it was too dark up top and sorta overcompressed with my pickups/thicker strings.
Really appreciate the longer video and deep dive into the circuit, I love nerding out on this stuff. Would love a Sola and System comparison video!
Planning on it!
Saw your Bender on Buddy Blues. Then YT made sure I saw this next, so I subscribed. I'll be ordering something soon. NAMM always hurts my wallet.
Why is the mk.1 the best pedal? Just because it is. ❤❤❤❤
It does the thing. 😊
so cool 😎. love these videos!!!
Your pedals are sounding really good !
Thanks!
Sounds sick!

Dear God!!! This pedal is super nasty. Love it
Thanks I’m stoked on how it came out!
