I dig it! The helmet/cap on the vintage figure looked like a French fry container to me! This little, light weight helmet is great! Uniform is fantastic! Love the colors and accessories! Thanks for sharing, even if I am a few months late or so!lol

The vest originated (as far as I am aware) with Snake Eyes v59. It was also used for Night Fox v1.
Other quick note- the "Pro-Tec" style helmet does not provide better protection than traditional kevlar; it's impact resistant, but actually a lot more vulnerable. Special operations personnel selected it for their light weight and protection when rappelling and other general activities, but they won't typically deflect or stop a bullet. Delta operators actually bought hockey helmets and spray-painted them before the leadership saw the need and quartermasters started receiving official "militarized" versions (which is what Recoil is wearing here).

Great review as always!! I loved Recoil as a kid! Its a shame when figures have QC issues. First Joe I've ever seen come with a 380 size pistol!! I like his accessories! Thanks for sharing bro!!! YO JOE!!!

The case is a case of four claymore mines. The "lens" things on the end are spools of detonation cord. The thing up near the top handle is the "clacker" used to trigger the explosive. I've never heard of the mines being carried in "briefcase" form like that though. The thing would probably weigh in the neighborhood of 14 pounds (that's just the mines, not counting the det cord and so forth).
The other gun is a bizarre Sci-Fi mash-up of what look to be totally fictional weapons. The bottom one does vaguely look like it has the handguard of an M60 machine gun in it, but that's about it.

I guess the over-under gun could actually be a directional microphone, laser range-finder, and that sort of thing, I just always thought it looked distinctly like a silly weapon, but in terms of being surveillance gear, it's not bad.

Jason Musgrave i agree it does have more of a sci fi feel than a real world look. Would combining a direction mic and range finder into a single device serve a functional purpose? His file card mentions that he is a one man show, so he has to carry all of his own gear so maybe it’s a way of reducing the number of and total weight of gear he has to bring? Just a thought.
Thank you for all the info and thanks so much for watching!

@@WrestlingWithDerek Larry Hama's writing then was very informed by Vietnam. LRRP teams at that time (they were re-designated Ranger teams in 1968/1969, and later took a number of names like LRS teams- Long Range Surveillance) operated in 6-man teams (or occasionally 12-man "heavy" teams), so I don't think Recoil would be considered a one-man show necessarily. They specialized in reconnaissance patrols deep behind enemy lines, but also performed ambushes, prisoner snatches, spotting for artillery fire missions, and bomb-damage assessments (BDA). They were mobilized a few times for rescue operations as well. Parabolic microphones and laser-range finders weren't options at the time (an infra-red scope was pretty fancy as far as real LRRP teams were concerned), and "listening in" to enemy conversations was moot (no LRRPs received any official training in local language). However, the idea of a combo laser-range finder, microphone, and possibly a laser designator as well might be a good way to bundle a bunch of high tech gear into a single package. It's would also save a TON of time selecting your gear in a Metal Gear game :)

Jason Musgrave this is fantastic information! Thank you, this was truly informative.
My comment about him being a one man show was based on his file card which implied he was. Thank you for the clarification. :)

Nice reuse of parts for a 30$-now 70$+ figure I'd expect a little more than just different recolored parts still not a bad looking figure ..nice work man 👍

M.G.Villan Hey Thanks! Very True, I think I’ve already framed expectations to “How well did they use existing tools” . There’s no question these prices are driven by collector desperation over actual tool value. Thanks for watching 👍

@@WrestlingWithDerek too bad they aren't making any more for a while and I wish they would have made these more readily available

M.G.Villan same here. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that with the upcoming Snake Eyes movie, we will see new waves of figures at retail. However, rumor is that it will be a different format of figure.

Those are Claymore mines. I’ll tell you what my complaint is: Hasbro must think we’re fools. How many cheaper repaint/re-issued parts are they going to re-package into “new figures” while they charge us an arm and a leg. How much did you pay for that bad boy?? Not worth it imho. Not hating on your review, just the second-rate figure!

    • @WrestlingWithDerek
      @WrestlingWithDerek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

The Dead-Eye Jedi since I made this video, ive done a lot of reflecting on the FSS line in general. I don’t think Hasbro thinks we are fools, rather I think they don’t actually care, or see it as a worry while venture. Which is why they licensed it out to Fun Publications.
I agree with you regarding the repainted and reused parts. Initially I didn’t mind it, but after spending time examining the figures for reviews it began to irritate me a little. I actually sold the final shipment without even opening them. The Blizzard Figure was the final straw for me.
I have begun converting my collection to vintage. While keeping Pursuit of Cobra, 50th, and the movie lines. The cost for the club figures is just not worth it at this point, IMO.
Thanks for your input and thank you for watching.

Great figure great review, wish he didn’t have those ugly blue colors on the guns, and had these color guns on the vintage figure
