When Jennifer Hudson interviewed him in her show, he mentioned that that performance may have been exactly why they pursued him. Initially he wanted to see Michael Jackson but the judges encouraged him to try something else and he just chose Bohemian Rhapsody by happenstance. Honestly, it may have just drawn their eyes to him and seeing him perform week after week solidified their decision. I guess it's a good thing he didn't win since he would have been strong-armed into a contract where he couldn't have toured with Queen. I loved watching him week after week. He is truly one of a kind.

Anyone who doesn't get the genius behind Adam's arrangement and vocal execution of Ring of Fire simply isn't familiar enough with advanced vocal technique. That was vocal acrobatics.
+CheezInspector I like adam lambert but I hated his cover of that song. I still love him, and I don't think that makes me ignorant to some higher level of singing :P people can dislike things and not be musical bums. lol
Love Dior I agree that not liking it is fine, but I'm addressing people who, like Simon, called it "rubbish", failing to at least acknowledge the technical difficulty & creativity.
+CheezInspector Your right :) agreed im just being argumentative haha but yeah anyone who's simply dismissing it is missing the effort put into it :) he's a great talent killer voice
+CheezInspector Adam's vocal was off the scale and a masterclass of control a pitch. I would go as far as to say that it was the single best AI performance ever.
Because it did not stay at all true to the original version, and it was after all, country night, AND because Cash is a legend. I was not upset by Adam's version, but did not care for it as much as most of his other renditions of songs. I personally like Mike Ness' version a bunch.
Because those judges actually have very little music knowledge outside of their genres. They were always clueless about alternative or metal -- annoying as hell.
I'm 56 y/o, and while I adore Adam, his rendition of Ring of Fire wasn't my favorite. I think that song is SUCH a huge country song, it was almost sacri-religious to do it that way. Doesn't make me like Adam any less, I just didn't care for his interpretation.
Add on purposely did not win by choice if you would have won he would have been under the control of American Idol and the corporation so they purposely made him second so that he could join Queen and expand himself to where he should be instead of being controlled so the best option was for him to play second
Simon did not get Adam at first but Adam won him over. When Kris was announced the winner, Simon was pissed, he didn't even stand up to clap for Kris. In the next season when an interviewer asked Simon who he thought the next winner will be, Simon said "Adam", n then he realised Adam was from the previous season. Simon is a Glambert! He must be very proud of Adam when Adam fronted Queen. Now, he gave Adam a judge's seat in his XFactor Australia show! Wow!
yes yes Adam was such a great judge and mentor he won xfactor with 17 year old contestant isaiah who has a stunning voice. Adam lambert is the real winner here his solo career is a success as well as fronting and touring the world with queen which is a major success 7 years on from idol and adams career is still on fire and is only getting hotter.
She was a little (maybe a lot) in love with him. She’s very strange in the way she tries to articulate a response to his performances, trying to sound profound. Very cringe (imho).
@@nylorij-Lori I think you're reading too much into it, I see it as her being awestruck and not knowing how to express what she's thinking after such amazing performances - it feels real, not rehearsed
Watching this. . . I actually forgot that there were other contestants on the show. . . That season was practically "The Adam Lambert Show" and for obvious reasons.
How did Adam not win idol ??? He was so good all through the shows so original I love him.. After all these years he’s made it he so deserves his fame ♥️
my father was killed in a car accident in 2008 and I couldn't listen to music anymore. When Idol came on and I heard Adam sing, I was hypnotized. He gave me a reason to love music again and to start living again. If it wasn't for Adam Lambert, I would probably still be grieving my father's death. I had the privledge of seeing him in Queen and also at his own tour at his first performance at the Paramount theatre where I waited 3 hours standing up just to get in front of the stage and see him. I couldn't believe I was standing only a few inches away from him. I cried through the whole concert. He is truly amazing and stunning to look at. Those eyes. God he's beautiful.
So sorry for you. But the same thing happened with you. i have multiple sclerosis and other nasty illnesses. I, who listened to music all day long, didn't interest me at all except to re-educate my phrasing because I started to stutter. . I've been a Queen fan since 1978. I remember Live Aid sitting on the carpet in my living room watching Queen ... and the rest. And I watch on Netflix Queen + Adam Lambert the show must go on ... I had a click! And since then I listen to music all day. Mostly Queen and Adam Lambert!
+Angelina Mcfadden Blame the bigots, once he revealed he was gay (kinda a stupid idea, should've waited till after the vote) his vote counts plummeted. Although losing was a blessing as he got a much better contract than the bad american idol one.
+Angelina Mcfadden It is a great thing that he lost. He was much better off. He got his voice out, and clearly made some impressions. Mission accomplished. Because now he sings for Queen.
IT'S 2024 and Adam is now a coach on Australian Idol together with Guy, Katie and Lee. Its the blind Auditions atm and I am glued to the screen each time it comes on, it makes my day. Am so happy he is here in Oz and we get to host him, hope he does some small concerts while here.
Occasionally I re-watch Adam's American Idol performances to remind myself of how awesome he was. From his initial audition when he sang Queen I was hooked. I am a mega Queen fan. First saw them live in 1976. So I was like who is this guy thinking he can sing Queen. Right then it was a feeling, I told my teen daughter he would be in the finals. Every week I could not wait to see what he would sing next. Adam NEVER disappointed. He consistently amazed me with his vocal ability, musical arrangements, stage presence. He was a master performer. We would be doing other things in the house with the tv on to listen and when we heard Adam would be on next we would run to the tv like crazy! Adam 'broke' American Idol, at least for me. I still watched ensuing seasons but not with enthusiasm. The only times I got excited again was when Adam was on as mentor, performer or judge. In the final when he sang with Queen it was magic; Brian and Roger knew it. By then they had already heard of Adam from thousands of people. Yes I was upset he didn't win (I voted for Adam like a nut case) but took solace knowing he was on his way. I am grateful to the show for exposing the viewers to his talent. Mostly I'm so grateful to Adam Lambert for taking that chance to step into the spotlight of national tv. It seems as if he will never avoid the 'Idol runner up' tag. I wish it would just drop. Since then he has done so much on his own. I love all his music and have seen him live. Missed his tour with Queen here but am hopeful they will tour the United States again. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! Thank God for the people posting videos from around the world of his own shows and Queen + Adam Lambert. I can't wait to see where Adam's music takes me next. Recently he posted he is working on new music! His voice is my high; I'm a fan for life!
Sheree Hendrick - wisely words, every time youtube recommends this video, I have to watch it... it is just amazing to see Adam’s trajectory from an unknown artist to the front man of Queen... Another video I love to watch is the one of Tim Minchin...
I knew from the beginning that ADAM was someone special so I watched him evolve on Am. Idol week after week watching & Voting .. something I never did before .. did not watch or Vote before ADAM came on!! The week he sang Ring of Fire I was so afraid he wouldn't make it back because of the horrible things Simon said .. I thought it was Brilliant .. I never liked Johnny Cash's version anyway ... so I held my breath & Voted as much as I could!! And thankfully he made it through!! Then when he was put in the bottom three I almost was crazy .. how could anyone not Vote for him after that stellar performance of Feelin' Good?? Once again I hit the phone as often as I could Vote & he made it through again .. so when he didn't get the title I was a nut case .. to this day I will not say he lost .. he WAS the WINNER .. he just didn't get the title ... not that it did much good for the guy who did "win"!! I knew ADAM was going to be a Super Star .. his Charisma, Stage Presence & GORGEOUS-ness were all there in one package!! Here I am 10+ years later still BSC over Mr. LAMBERT .. and it won't stop until I stop for good!! Maybe even after that .. only GOD knows ... ADAM is just what the music world has needed for decades!! LAMBERT Outlaw
What I always take away from re-watching his season is realizing how humble Adam genuinely was. Even while being praised and screamed at by fans. He always listened to the criticism (even if it was only about his “theatrics” -_-) and tried to up his performance every time. He’s not just an incredible singer with a huge stage presence but also very humble. You don’t see that often and I feel like people don’t talk about that aspect enough. That’s what made me like him even more.
@@GGSOG Its going to take a documentary or two for people to realize that! It will be after he leaves I predict it. :( He will be the guy that changed it all, and proved it could be done. They will call him the bravest of this era. I do foresee a movie about the most underrated artist of this era, in terms of impact. I can't wait till ppl figure it out it wasn't just about his music or covers. When he passes they will speak on how much a groundbreaking career he really has, instead of dismissing him. It's going to take alot of media, but its good that a lot of media are on his side. They will remember him. I think he has arrived so to speak to status- because of the Oscars, nobody will ignore that. or at least historians won't. The biggest solo thing he will have accomplished is China, after his historic second album. imo. That will change and blow everyone's mind with everything. If I didn't know about that, or how international admired by the press he is- I might disagree with you. But people don't realize how humble he is, they think he is fake. Mark my words.I know he is from America idol, but his impact can't be ignored by lgtbq experts. It's been noted. Why do you think many legends notice him? mmm I'd pay attention. This is one dude that reminds me of David Bowie. I know his story, prior to idol, let's just he is the most fascinating pop artist of the decade.
He's the sexiest person I've ever seen. He makes the audience wait for it, then at the last possible minute, his mind-blowing range and immaculate accuracy comes out. Breathtaking. Every fucking time. I literally have to catch my breath. So damn amazing is Adam Lambert. Whoever says different, is very wrong.

no one is to be the "singer OF Queen". Anyone is there only because someone needs to sing on Queen tours. But he is a nice, humble guy and knows he is on a sacred place on the stage. Approved by Queen fans.
Freddie will always be the singer of Queen. Adam has talent, but when we talk about someone who could sing with the band on tours I'd pick Marc instead, he has a similar voice with Freddie's...
Actually, they wouldn't even be touring without Adam. It's not like Roger and Brian want to tour and they just need a singer to tour with them... They were interested in working with Adam after AI finale but gave Adam the space to start his career first as a solo artist. It just clicks with Adam and Roger and Brian. There's magic there and they know it. That is why they're still touring.

Adam Lambert is the best singer AI ever had on. Carrie and Kelly are great in their own way, but Adam is fantastic. There was the rumor that he lost because he was gay, I believe it was well known at that point. I hope that's not why. I believe as did Simon, viewers knew Adam had enough votes to win so they voted for Kris. Love Lambert in Queen. No one can replace Freddy Mercury, Adam was as close of a match as you could find.
That version of ring of fire is so amazing, it was so under appreciated because it wasn’t country but it was sooooo good. Loved him since idol, loved seeing him with Queen live it was amazing. He is the closest thing to Freddie we have.
My favorite performance of Adam was😊 when he sang the song tracks of my tears. Anyone can scream during a song, but to pull it back tenderly, softly and masterfully--- now that's talent!
Adam CRUSHED this whole competition. There was and won’t be no one like him. Every week I’ve been waiting for an episode JUST to hear and see him, he was exciting, fresh, entertaining. Every album he released since then- is magic! I’m so proud of him! The voice of the century. Btw, I love how he takes the time to thank the band or the people that helped him, so humble and kind
Madi C apparently Brian may was. trying to get hold of him while he was still in idol, but he couldn't get in touch because of the bubble they're kept in.
He was in his own league. Should have easily won. His vocal is very versatile. He can sing from rock to a soulful falsetto R&B. Definitely one of my top 2 American idol contestants ever (other is Chris Daughtry).
He is just so amazing...I knew he would be a star, and as a 61 year old ex vet, and an old hippy, I adore him and he is one of the few I would pay to see
So back in 2009, when Adam was on the show, the social climate in US is very different from what it's now. After the rock week, a tabloid magazine published a photo of Adam kissing a man, and Adam didn't denied it, in fact he openly admitted he is gay and said he has never tried to hide who he's as a person, and you can clearly see that from his fashion choices on the show, the nail polish and the hair. But at that time, american public couldn't stomach an openly gay man as the American idol, so a ton of votes for Adam just simply vanished. I remembered watching the final result announcement live in disbelief, and realized that I just saw live on tv someone got robbed his place in history just for his sexual orientation.
@@adambelike2346 and people have every right not to support gay people. Doesn't mean they can't treat them like crap but they don't have to support them
I believe in America's heart, regardless of the outcome, Adam Lambert WAS The American Idol. He had all of us in the palm of his hand from the time he sang his first note. And you know what they say, "success" is the best revenge, and Adam has proved beyond anyone's imagination, that he is a magnificent talent and SUCCESS!
I keep going back to the start of Adam's well-deserved recognition that continues to this day. His parents did a wonderful job of raising him to be himself; that love is rare. Adam continue to love yourself for yourself; that is what drives your amazing talent. You are an inspiration in a world where others judge your lifestyle. Adam, stay true to yourself for you are amazing just the way you are!
❤ oh man im smiling from ear to ear. I love all the judges comments. I feel the same about Adam. I love Adams facial expressions when his singing. SO EXCITING!!! WOW BLACK AND WHITE I LOVE ADAMS VERSION. YOU ROCK ADAM. ❤LOVE YOU . ABSOLUTE GORGEOUSNESS AND YOUR SMILE IS CONTAGIOUS!!!❤
When someone is confused about a song like Adam Lambert’s version of ring of Fire let’s you know that they can’t even understand the amazing talent it takes to do something like that. That rendition was just amazing. Simple as that.
I'd like to believe it wasn't because he was gay. But you never know. It may have been. It might just have been the fact that the good looking pop style guy singers are always really popular, regardless of how talented or not talented they are, so that might be why the other guy won. And maybe Adam's style was a bit out there for some people.Their loss. Pretty sure Adam's the real winner anyway.
In 2016, who cares if Adam won American Idol? He's now one of the most famous rock stars alive. When was the last time anyone heard of Kris Allen? American Idol served its purpose for Adam, which was to give him exposure. Even if he had placed a spot or two lower than he did, he'd likely still be the global superstar he's become. I find him absolutely breathtaking, honestly.
I was seriously having one of those days where I hate everyone and everything. I stumbled on this in my saved queue. Thank you Adam Lambert for making me cry with joy, and smile with hope. Music is everything, but baby- you ARE the music.
We never followed American Idol after Adam was Not crowned champion. But we are glad he has since become very popular and he deserves it. Phenomenal performances!
Forgetting everything else about his performances and people's enjoyment of his interpretations (or Paula's flat out crush on him), kudos for being the ONLY person in any season of Idol to give props to the tremendous house band they use. That says a lot about him personally that he remembers to credit the people helping him find just the right arrangement for his performance.

With out a doubt the most talented singer to ever sing on a reality show. No one else even begins to come close. It's a shame he didn't win. I really don't understand what other people were hearing.
MegaGood5 how the fuck is homophobic? Homosexuality has been shoved down everyone's throats (pun) for years in the media and entertainment. Isn't almost 100% of America on board with gay marriage?
I am so glad Adam didn't win American Idol because his career has been so much better than it would have been. I don't think he would have suited being part of the Simon Cowell/Simon Fuller factory at all, but it did give him the perfect platform to get noticed. He's an amazing performer/singer and Queen is the perfect band for him to perform with.
Indeed, it goes better when one doesn't be the winner of Idol. Idol, they're restricted to do what they're told/contracted. Not always the best for the singers' interests. As we both know, he's fricking AWESOME, talented, and has such a variety. Also, ngl he is sexy af.

No one listening to those two finalists sing together could honestly believe that Adam didn't blow Kris completely out of the water. How utterly ironic that it's an iconic song by, and with, Queen. Adam "won" so much more than his "opponent," in the end, but I never watched the show again.

That American Idol season was really the Adam Lambert show! After how many years, and I still listen to it at least once a year. He was (and is) awesome! It wasn't his time, not that not winning had any impact on his career! Lovely human being!

I think we all knew he was something special from the first note out of his mouth.. Love this guy... Rock on, Adam!!!
Watched idol tonight with Adam Lambert as the mentor. Even after all these years no one compares. It's a shame he didn't win, but he freakin fronts queen now.

With Freddie gone, all I can say is that God knew we needed another amazing talent like him to make us happy! Thanks for putting this all together to remind us how amazing Adam is!

Anyone who doesn't get the genius behind Adam's arrangement and vocal execution of Ring of Fire simply isn't familiar enough with advanced vocal technique. That was vocal acrobatics.
CheezInspector That was beautiful
+CheezInspector I like adam lambert but I hated his cover of that song. I still love him, and I don't think that makes me ignorant to some higher level of singing :P people can dislike things and not be musical bums. lol
Love Dior I agree that not liking it is fine, but I'm addressing people who, like Simon, called it "rubbish", failing to at least acknowledge the technical difficulty & creativity.
+CheezInspector
Your right :) agreed im just being argumentative haha but yeah anyone who's simply dismissing it is missing the effort put into it :) he's a great talent killer voice
+CheezInspector Adam's vocal was off the scale and a masterclass of control a pitch. I would go as far as to say that it was the single best AI performance ever.
I don't understand why so many people were hating on his take of "Ring of Fire" ? Everything he did was amazing!!!
That was an amazing rendition.
It was amazing and smart! He applied the song to his style, completed the assignment making his own version.
According to Forbes he's the highest earning Idol contestant of all time now since he's been touring with Queen. :)
He earned 10 million just last year. No biggie... ;)
Finally lol

He developed his talent in theatre do yeah he does has a good control
He sucks, we all have ears!🙄

I stop watching Idol when Adam Didn’t win. But for me His The WINNER ❤ And Look at Him now He Is the Lead Singer Of The Legendary QUEEN❤❤❤ Love Him❤❤❤
Tal cual, hice lo mismo, no ví más American Idol, él era el ganador
Chris Cornell had that range and more
Add on purposely did not win by choice if you would have won he would have been under the control of American Idol and the corporation so they purposely made him second so that he could join Queen and expand himself to where he should be instead of being controlled so the best option was for him to play second
Wow!
chezzasan cheap way to pay a mistake IMHO. that season ruins american idol. no one believe in american idol after what happened with adam

yes yes Adam was such a great judge and mentor he won xfactor with 17 year old contestant isaiah who has a stunning voice. Adam lambert is the real winner here his solo career is a success as well as fronting and touring the world with queen which is a major success 7 years on from idol and adams career is still on fire and is only getting hotter.

Definitely. can't wait til his next album
I love how paula is genuinely supportive of adam. Shes like the one who will 100% support u to achieve what u deserve
She was a little (maybe a lot) in love with him. She’s very strange in the way she tries to articulate a response to his performances, trying to sound profound. Very cringe (imho).
@@nylorij-Lori little did she know, Adam is not into women LOL

The start showed Adam is in a league of his own.Once in a lifetime performer 👏👏
Watching this. . . I actually forgot that there were other contestants on the show. . . That season was practically "The Adam Lambert Show" and for obvious reasons.
FROM THE BEGINNING ADAM DIDN´T SEEM to be A CONTESTANT HE SEEMED to be AN SPECIAL GUEST STAR
YES!!
Well said and I fully agree. Adam was just in a league of his own. He is brilliant!
How did Adam not win idol ??? He was so good all through the shows so original I love him..

my father was killed in a car accident in 2008 and I couldn't listen to music anymore.
Wow Im sorry about your father. Im so happy that you can connect to music again. It really heals the souls heartaches.
Wow, he is awesome. 😂😊🎉
Absolutely phenomenal talent...thank you...
Gotta say, yes Adam is Adam yet so many times looks sooooooooo like Elvis Presley...

His version of Ring of fire is my favorite. It sent chills through me the first time I heard it. Awsome.
Its fantastically mesmerizing
Still can't believe Adam lost. I quit watching American Idol after Adam lost.
+Angelina Mcfadden So did I.
+Angelina Mcfadden Blame the bigots, once he revealed he was gay (kinda a stupid idea, should've waited till after the vote) his vote counts plummeted. Although losing was a blessing as he got a much better contract than the bad american idol one.
+xXDarkxIdealsXx he never revealed he was gay. He did after the show
+xXDarkxIdealsXx he never revealed he was gay. He did after the show
+Angelina Mcfadden It is a great thing that he lost.

Super
I searched for this particularly to watch both performances of Mad World again!
Exactly.
Right Raex. It's a wonderful thing to see someone who is so obviously talented but with a humility that is genuine.
Man oh man, could listen for days... any song, any style any any any... Such a voice and personality... wow... Blessings

Freddie will always be the singer of Queen. Adam has talent, but when we talk about someone who could sing with the band on tours I'd pick Marc instead, he has a similar voice with Freddie's...
Bruna Cubbins nobody cares about imitators with an original Band... Apart maybe from the nostalgia chasers...

Potato Master29 Yes. :(
I'd like to believe it wasn't because he was gay.

I am so glad Adam didn't win American Idol because his career has been so much better than it would have been. I don't think he would have suited being part of the Simon Cowell/Simon Fuller factory at all, but it did give him the perfect platform to get noticed. No one listening to those two finalists sing together could honestly believe that Adam didn't blow Kris completely out of the water. How utterly ironic that it's an iconic song by, and with, Queen. Adam "won" so much more than his "opponent," in the end, but I never watched the show again.
Paula standing up for every performance is me.
Honestly, Paula is such a mood in this entire video
Yeah, me too
@@wynnie_margeaux is that sarcasm? I hope so. Cuz otherwise, you don't make any damn sense
@@courtneywhite8470 Do you now what mood means? It means that I feel the same way that she was acting. How she was very supportive of Adam through all of that, I felt the same she felt. Sorry if it was confusing
Paula is the original Glambert. I wish she had more interesting things to say, but her gushing over Adam is adorable. He is an amazing artist who can take any good song and make it sound amazing. Love rewatching this every once in a while.
despite his theatricality, Adam remains a humble, nice guy.
Still enjoy watching this from time to time........never another contestant like him (has there been?)
No one else! Adam Lambert was the best contestant on AI ever
+Paul Purcell Nope. NOT EVEN CLOSE.
+Paul Purcell Im so with you on that. He is in a league of his own for sure.
@@moodini99 dude!!! I was just gonna say that same exact fucking thing!!!
Nope! Never!!!!
Simon is such a jerk sometimes but I love how Adam turns all his insults around into compliments :D
Marta Bergen Yeah. Paula sure wasn't subtle about it.
innnit
Simon is all about drama. He knows show business. He also knows Adam is one of kind
He did the same with jelly clarkson
It's 2023 and I am still a huge fan of Adam Lambert. This video was great. Thank you for making it.
2024 forgot how good he is
@@vickimorgan7097 - I never forget how wonderful Adam is. I still listen to him everyday. After his season, I stoppped watching the show.
2024 and Adam Lambert is at the TOP!! Where he deserves to be!!
That American Idol season was really the Adam Lambert show! After how many years, and I still listen to it at least once a year. He was (and is) awesome! It wasn't his time, not that not winning had any impact on his career! Lovely human being!
the ring of fire by adam give me goosebumps all over my body
Same.
Never anyone as exciting to watch week after week!!!!!!
How the crap is he so so freaking good. No matter what anyone throw at him. He is always is a step ahead.
the whole world should know him
I have seen Adam in concert a couple of times. The first time was about 5 years ago and then I saw him last year. He was great the first time but I sure could tell that he has improved on his shows. With practice makes perfect. He seemed much more comfortable too and danced a lot more. His voice still wows me. He should have won American Idol but either way he is succeeding. I think we all knew he was something special from the first note out of his mouth.. Love this guy... Rock on, Adam!!!
The guy is so humble.
I’m in the music touring business and everyone says he’s still one of the sweetest guys in the biz and a great guy to work with.
Watched idol tonight with Adam Lambert as the mentor. Even after all these years no one compares. It's a shame he didn't win, but he freakin fronts queen now.
Team Glambert in 2009 and still Team Glambert in 2019! There just isn't another singer and entertainer on the planet who even holds a candle to him today! With Freddie gone, all I can say is that God knew we needed another amazing talent like him to make us happy! Thanks for putting this all together to remind us how amazing Adam is!
Not one single person should be surprised that he's the new frontman for Queen now
Nobody remembered who won the season 8, but everybody knows who is Adam Lambert! The best of American Idol.
the only reason i knew who won is cause Adam didn't lol.
