"We've never made a claim"?!?! what kind of nonsnse is that. You allowed some company to make claims on your behalf because you didn't read the fine print. I'm not sticking up for insurance companies, but where's the accountability on the consumer as well. Don't just sign things away.

Yes, she messed up and doesn’t know she messed up. The market will resolve this issue soon. Risk takers will self insure and the gambit is set: bad hurricane season gets a win for insurance companies, gentle season gets a win for risk takers. Then we wait for next season and do it again.

At this point it seems more beneficial to cut home insurance completely and invest that money. Might as well just insure yourself.

Might as well self-insure. A treat completely destroyed my condo and the mice and rats that got in there due to the tree opening everything up and I imagine the roofers had something to do with that too. Mice and rats destroyed all my cabinets and the water destroyed my belongings. It's not worth it and premiums continue to rise. Companies paid zero on repairs to my home for 3 and 1/2 years. Who makes all the money? The insurance companies and the insurance lawyers. We end up with minimal and at retirement age what the hell are you going to do? Hopeless situation. No family or friends give a damn. I'm going to end up homeless

Is call - Home Maintance and Repair Savings Account with Cash Value .
It already happens in the Health Insurance Industry ; it could happen here in the Housing sector .
Remember : HomeInsurance is to protect the Bank collateral ... not the Homeowner .
If the banks already get PMI insurance in case of default , they also want the collateral to be in good shape to sell at a huge gain for them .

@deloresdeal5239 Well when it comes to home insurance just about any state would be better than Florida. Since 1851 it has had 40.4% of all US hurricanes make landfall there. The 2nd worst, Texas, is nowhere near as bad with 22.22% of all US hurricanes making landfall there. With climate change making storms more frequent and stronger America will have to eventually confront the fact that we've built up a stock of insufficiently sturdy housing in overly dangerous areas that cost too much to keep fixing even with the implicit government subsidies from FEMA and other federal financial assistance after each disaster.

Sadly , these problems will only get worse . Most of Florida's Real Estate has skyrocketed in Value . Especially along Florida's vulnerable & very populated Coastlines . Causing many Insurance companies to bail on the State or go Bankrupt . Leaving the remaining insurance companies very nervous about the upcoming Hurricane Season .

I mean.... Insurance only works if they dont ALWAYS have to pay out on every policy. Insurance exists to spread risk around. I actually dont even see how they can still offer insurance on some properties in Florida. Its not a question of IF something is going to basically destroy the property, but WHEN.

Yes, lets talk about roof issues shall we. Shingles are built with 20-30 year lives. In those 30 years a roof is subject to "normal wear". That should be subject to normal inspections, normal repairs, and normal re-inspection. Yet these companies are summarily dropping people. I had 2 properties dropped at the 15 year mark.
