Copper has a Peter Pan personality-he will never grow up. He looks so cute here- and the q word. Adorable. I don't know if you have seen Sherpa-he has the same thing. 11 and still chases his own tail! They are so beyoooottifuuull. Especially Copper in this video. Please give him some head rubs for me x
Absolutely great video! If I could add a couple thoughts.... Raw diets: Soft or moist foods can lead to dental issues, though overall, raw diets are better for tooth development and health teeth/mouths. If feeding a prepared balanced diet, make sure you're providing for their dental health by offering chews, water additives, annual dental cleanings (or as needed), or brushing teeth. My favorite chew for this? Raw beef ribs (NOT!!!! cooked-never give cooked bone to dogs!!) I buy a rack and cut them apart. Beef (not pork!) ribs are too hard to splinter, and they really have to work all the teeth to get the meat off. Pick up and discard before they become dry enough to splinter (6-12 hours). Also, some of the end ribs are too small to be safe, discard those, as well. Basic obedience classes, even if you know what you're doing. This is important social time for your pup, and basic obedience cues not only make for a pleasant companion, but can save lives. Basic O also helps forge and strengthen the bond between dog and parent, for pups as well as adult dogs. No dog parks until 16 week boosters are complete. I'm not a fan of dog parks, but there's some good ones out there, usually members only, and they do serve a purpose. Scent proxy exchange: In short, the breeder and new owner prepare scent items (cheap washcloths work great) "soaked" in the familiar smells of the environment. They then exchange these items (sealed in plastic bags, via mail if at distance), add some adaptil spray to the item, and pair them with positive association stimulus when presented to the dog/pup. This creates a sense of safe familiarity when combining dogs or when a new pup arrives at it's new home. (That's a very cliff notes version, but you probably get the drift.) When we examined dogs/pups placed with this method, they had lower cortisol levels, a markedly decreased cortisol spike and fewer issues in adapting. They also seemed to have fewer behavioral issues in the long run, but that evidence was anecdotal vs measured. For adult dogs, it made bringing in a new dog much more successful. Adaptil: Simulates dog pheromones released by nursing mothers, lowering cortisol and reducing stress, inducing calm. Comes in a spray, room diffuser (like a wall plug in scent dispenser), and collar form. Great to spray on the heartbeat toy. Adaptil is a proprietary formula that seems to out perform lavender or similar products. (Not saying those don't work.) Note: Humans can't smell adaptil and therefore are not affected nor is there any odor. EFS Sensitivity: Enterococcus Faecium Sensitivity. EF is a common probiotic in dog food, especially in the US. Northern, working and primitive breeds (klees are all 3) may not process this well, and it results in what's basically a chronic bacterial infection, mimicking IBS and absorption disorders. Poor thrift, ravenous or poor appetite, alopecia, developmental problems in pups, and milkshake like, voluminous stools/diarrhea are a common symptoms. It can be tricky to diagnose, as the treatment will clear it until the EF is reintroduced via food or treats. Changing to a better food will likely only increase the amount ingested as the more premium foods need to add even more EF, and so the cycle continues. Good news is, its treatable and reversible. Treat dog with a round of metronitazole and albon while eliminating all EF from diet (this is also the dx method). (Not suggesting that Skye or Copper are affected, just as general info.) Last, don't forget to puppy-proof the house and car! Great video, thanks for posting!
Thank you so much for your whole channel! I have been researching the breed for a couple years but your videos have been the most helpful. I wanted to make sure the personalities of these little weirdos would suit our home and lifestyle. Watching Skye and Copper play, live, and just be Klee Kai has been so inspiring that my little Violet came home one week ago! She is the sweetest, cutest puppy ever. Thank you for all the advice and I will continue to watch!!
Thank you so much for this! Super helpful! We are on the list to get one of Brenda's pups, and are new followers to Cooper & Skye so it's nice to know you got your babies from her too! 🥰
Your videos have been so helpful! My fiancé and I are traveling to the states in a week to pick up our Alaskan KK, I want to be sure we’re well prepared !
I enjoyed your comments on owing a Klee Kai. Over the last 30+ years, I've owned a mix of Alaskan Malamutes, Siberian Huskies, and Husky mixes, usually 3 to 4 at a time. Every thing you had in your video would apply to any breed of husky. 30 years ago it was pretty easy for me to walk 2 Malamutes and a Siberian about 10 miles a day. I'm currently in my 70's with two 10 year old Siberians. I can still manage them, but I can picture the day when it will become a problem for me to handle two 50 pound dogs that want to chase the rabbit they just spotted. Recently we were at an outdoor restaurant that allow dogs and met a couple with a Klee Kai. We thought that it was a Siberian puppy, until they told us that it was a 2 year old Klee Kai. We are now thinking as our current Siberians age, that 2 or 3 Klee Kai Huskies may become our next dog team.
By the way, your videos are wonderful. Please continue making them if you can. I have learned so much watching your dogs and getting a better idea of behavior. Thank you so much.
On the note of the Bully Sticks. I recently learned of a Kong toy that you can lock the ends of the Bully stick into so once they have chewed the rest of the stick they can't access that last little bit that dogs tend to want to swallow whole. A good extra measure for anyone who wants to be extra careful about it.
Almost any canine pup joining your household, wolves and dingoes included, can be trained not to harm an existing family cat. However, this may not be broadly applied to other cats or new cats joining the household once the dog has reached adulthood. Success also depends on the amount of time and training one is willing to commit, as well as the quality of the training. Huskies, and Klees are very much tiny Huskies, have a high prey drive and may be very challenged to ever be completely trustworthy with cats or other small furries. (I knew one that wiped out a 55 gal reef tank 😖)
I have a Klee Kai! I subscribed because I thought I was one of the few people that have a Klee Kai! When I saw your videos, they were very fun! Maybe a pin or shout out pls?
I have wanted an AKK for a long time now. Haven't bothered contacting a breeder because where I live it gets brutally hot and even though the dog would be an indoor dog it's cruel to live in a warm weather climate when they are a breed developed in a cold climate.
I named my puppy as Cupper for the male.. The fur is like Cupper. The female was named Zonc... by my nieces... I want her named Skye or Skya but they refused...
How do you Klee Kai get along with other dogs? I have a corgi and I have wanted a Klee Kai for years. I am still looking for a breeder in the United States.
I'm disabled and in a 3rd floor apartment. I found a local toy klee kai breeder. Of course I would take him out to walk or to the park everyday, but do you think it's ok if I kept him using a litter box even as an adult? It is really hard due to my mobility and health issues to get outside in the morning quickly, and I don't have a deck. I'm wondering if I can adopt a dog with my limitation.
Lots of folks train to cat litter, and without issue. You just have to be careful which litter you choose and make sure it's safe (no dust, not clumping, etc).

Anyone else getting sleepy just watching copper? Great info! Love the channel. I’ve been wanting to get a Klee Kai to be a buddy for my Siberian.
Love Cooper sooo mouch,😘😘😘
Dude my chow passed away at 16, he never grew out of his puppy tendencies. Damn, I miss my Teddy.

Great info and idea! Thanks for sharing.
Copper makes me laugh I enjoy him my dog kept tilting her head hearing him lol
Excellent information! I’ve never heard of this breed before
Why is copper more vocal than sky? They are wonderful. Can they be trained from puppies to like cats?

Common sense is clearly lacking in you. Puppies should never be around cat litter!!
