Nacido en Kingston (Jamaica), el pianista Monty Alexander se trasladó con su familia a Miami (Florida) en 1961, y desde allí prosiguió una brillante carrera que lo ha llevado a tocar con otras grandes estrellas del jazz como Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Golson, Milt Jackson, Ernestine Anderson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen o Mary Stallings, entre otros.
Con una extensa discografía de más de 75 álbumes y un directo impactante en el que están presentes el jazz y el blues, así como sus raíces jamaicanas con el calypso y el reggae, Monty Alexander es un clásico americano y un gran maestro del trío de piano en el jazz. Quien una vez haya visto uno de sus conciertos jamás lo olvidará, como bien sabemos en Jazz San Javier, por lo que esperamos con gran ilusión la tercera visita al festival de este gigante del jazz.

Born in Kingston (Jamaica), the pianist Monty Alexander moved with his family to Miami (Florida) in 1961, and from there he pursued a brilliant career that has led him to play with other great jazz stars such as Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Golson, Milt Jackson, Ernestine Anderson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen or Mary Stallings, among others.
With an extensive discography of more than 75 albums and an impressive live show featuring jazz and blues, as well as his Jamaican roots with calypso and reggae, Monty Alexander is an American classic and a great master of the piano trio in jazz. Not anyone who has seen one of his concerts once will never forget it, as we know at Jazz San Javier, so we look forward to the third visit to the festival by this jazz giant.

Pianistically he's lost a lot in recent years and he clearly struggles at some passages he used to do so easily. Still there is a lot to enjoy from Monty who I admire still.
