One of the best jazz pianists ever. I’m a jazz pianist and have been listening to Monty for over 40 years, both live and on recordings. He’s one of my 5 favorite jazz plants, if not my number 1 favorite!!!!
😁Me too, since his LP, (I'm dating myself) Love and Sunshine back in the mid-70's. He was one of three, Oscar P. and George Shearing...I have more now but not many more.
1. Just in Time 2. Jammin' 3. Tricrotism 4. Bossa Nova Do Marilla 5. ? 6. Concerto De Aranjuez Monty Alexander - piano Steve Rodby - bass Frank Gant - drums
This is what he was playing when I first saw him. Bossa nova di marrilla. I learned how to play this and concierto di aranjues After we were together 2 years. He was at his Peak here. We really Loved each other. This brought back Many great memories 😭💓💓
Well, I'll be damned - there's my college friend and big band bassist, Steve Rodby! He spent several decades with Pat Metheny. ...and Frank Gant on drums.
Monty at its best, showing off all his wonderful tricks and licks, swinging like nobody's business! The bass player's bad intonation is driving me insane though. My Lord, I so wish Ray Brown would have been on this gig!

A smooth trio. It's great when you follow music and then you find on TH-cam great artist you never heard of
Thank you for sharing this excellent trio.
Excellent trio!!
Lo descubrí en la radio gracias horizonte jazz saludos desde Cuautitlán México

Thank you, man (for the info - you dig...).
And such a lovely man...
Monty the Great!!!
We already had Alexander the Great, now we have Monty the Great...who's next
Fantastic trio ... does anyone have a set-list from this concert ??
Mucho swing!!
Hi every fan, Who would be able to name the song min 33:30 ? Thanks in advance.
That's outstanding!! Can someone share the full list of played songs? Expecially for the one at 33:24
You can get the full list of songs by googling Monty Alexander at the North Sea festival on July 14, 1978.
@@karenshelinsky1165 Already tried, but no results..
I’m a big fan of Monty but never come across this before. I’m guessing his own composition as it often liked to write bass lines.
It's a Jamaican song called 'Out of Many People.'
I found this difficult to listen to with headphones. Many very soft-loud songs. Besides, its in mono. Did they have stereo in 1978? I think so!
7:52 Hi Monty!
Just in Time 1:18
that begining, was like Oscar PEterson... feelings...
very oscar esque
Yup, actually there's a TH-cam vid where Monty plays with the Oscar Peterson Trio minus O.P.
Anyone know who the drummer is? He swings like crazy
The drummer is Frank Gant.
22:07
12:52 Grady Tate puts his passport to good use.
Please, can someone say, what the name of the first song of the concert?
Geovani Ferreira Just in time
Geovani Ferreira Think he does it in F
This song sounds somehow like Herbie Hancok's "Gentle thoughts"
Sorry but if you want to describe Monty without making use of the word "REGGAE", your description is very unprecise.

Thanks for the upload
