The problem with such a length of time is that sure, they probably wouldn't get in trouble for sharing stuff, but they probably don't remember much. I imagine much of the little development info covered in these videos would also be news to the people who worked on the game because they just wouldn't remember this stuff. 20+ years is a long time to go back

I'd seen the initial car website, but never thought to put other names in those links. That's cool. The GTA 3 site is full of fun stuff, like calling Vice City Miami and referencing Florida...Despite already having Vice City in GTA 1 anyway. So I like to think the GTA universe is side by side with a copy of ours, and those cities are just smaller sister cities to the real counter parts....being as other real world places are mentioned and even the real cities anyway are mentioned in songs and whatnot. Getting off track but yeah I used to brows that site myself ages ago. P.S. You should care about the top down GTA magazines, a lot of stuff the third person games has ideas from them. Like drive-able trains, multiple ethnicities and genders for player characters. Driving trains. Drive by's. I dunno how much those old magazines would mention this stuff, but the games themselves have a lot in common with the later games, more than many would think. Some cars from GTA 1 made it into GTA 2 and then onto the next games....The Stallion for instance has been in all GTA games in one form or another. Except GTA 2.
Some of the early models actually look better than the in-game ones (obviously the textures were shit though) and the early cars had much lower suspension making them all look sleeker, particularly the U-Jerk and Stretch.
I would say the "luton" refers to the manufacturer "Bedford" who make that type of vehicle in the UK, as well as being famous for it's Vauxhall plant. Luton being in Bedfordshire the county. Maurice is obviously a point to "Morris" who were very popular manufacturer's of vehicles in the UK from 50's onwards. It looks kind of like a Morris traveller at first point.
1:16 Luton is a type of van in the UK where Rockstar North was based. That van also looks a hell of a lot like the model of transit van we had in the UK back then.
I think the final two unknown renders not found at the end of the video look like the later cheetah model in vice city and the Sabre again in vice city

Hachura appears in GTA San Andreas too - same model from GTA 3 and Vice City is used, just texture of headlights and grill. Screen for example: snag.gy/nHQZUX.jpg 2. Also we've already seen Taxi render in Mean Street Taxi's poster: snag.gy/2Y8Lp1.jpg 3. Blista's beta name "Space" is acutally a tricky reference. The thing is - Blista on the alpha stage resembled Honda Oddyssey a lot, which was named as a refference to Stanley Kubrick's movie "2001: A Space Oddyssey". Rockstar have tried to refer to its prototype with using other word from the name of the movie.
It doesn't work on this website but on some other sites you can delete the jpg name, leave the last / and it will give you a directory of every file in that folder. View an images url, if there is a seperate image folder you can sometimes look it up
Murice is a reference t Morris Motors a British car maker that became part of Austin. Mostly they are considered boring cars so the name is just a way the devs were joking about the dullness of this car. Luton is a van type with a enclosed box body. It takes its name from the town of Luton, in Bedfordshire, where Bedford Vehicles made vans. (though most Bedfords look like the vans called Luton in GTA and not Luton type vans but the Box Van in GTA is a Luton type)
Most likely because they were created with no console limitations or branding issues in mind, so the models end up looking as high quality and more closer to a real life branded car.
For me they look just more aerodynamic beeing accualy less profiled with more reflections added to them. I beleve it's because it suits cartoon style game better so no console limitation is necessary to be lika it so as they made them for alpha/beta content they must have been done right at that point.
It's not really related, but one of the callers on Chatterbox complains about "Gardening with Maurice" being taken off the air. However, you can listen to this program in GTA San Andreas on WCTR

Alot of sprites from gta 2 appear in gta 1 but also some from gta 1 are featured, yet never shown for some reason; the trashmaster we all know appeared in both games, but the "subway train" did appear in gta1, you could even drive it and when you enter it has the same name. The funny thing is, in gta 1 you start outside a subway train; which arrives after a small while, giving you a chance to steal it, block it or blow it up :)

The Luton Was Changed from a Transit to a Econoline because the Luton is based on the 2nd Gen version of the Transit which was never in America so it was changed

U-Jerk looks more beefier, especially with the large headlights. Represents an American Truck : The 2004 Ram 1500.

I would love to see RS do a GTA in cel shading. If you look up mid showcases it really shows potential. Almost like a comic book aesthetic.
