Oh my gosh…I love my oversized blazers/men’s jackets even though I am only 4’10”. They create a bit more edgy look especially paired with a mini dress, tights, and Doc Marten’s, or jeans, crop top, and Doc Martens or other chunky shoe. I am loving my platform combat and Chelsea boots these cooler autumn days. As I am entering my 70th year, I find experimenting with fashion is quite fun and liberating!
I so agree about the pointy toe shoes. Just about every fashion influencer insists on pointy toe shoes particularly for petite women. I have found that they look ridiculous … I look like a freakin’ leprechaun…and they are extremely uncomfortable. I wear a woman’s size 5 and find an almond toe is most flattering for my foot. Round toes are a definite “no, no”! I like shopping the teens department on occasion and find tops that usually work better for my structure…my favorite being crop tops. I am quite short waisted and find this style is more proportionate to my body. They work quite well and I don’t have to worry about my midriff being exposed because all my pants are high waisted. Most tops in the woman’s department are tunic length or quite boxy, lacking any real shape. I am 69 years old and am a measly 4’10”. Most clothing poses quite a few challenges for me. I do wear oversized blazers/men’s jackets with items that work well with them….skinny jeans or a mini dress w/tights and Doc Marten’s. I refuse to shop in the older woman’s section as everything is so shapeless. I have no idea why designers push these fashions and looks on us more mature ladies…and the fabrics and patterns…seriously??!! I look at this stuff and go..”Oh HELL no”!!!!
Totally agree. I Hate most petite departments. I've often thought I should design clothing for women like us who do not want to look like a short, wide box or a silly caricature.
I'm 66 and Elanas tips are useful and things I have learned to do over time. Agree about pointy toe shoes. I am 5ft 3 inches so taller, but have found teenage sizes fit well, especially from Zara 14 to 15 years, though I am slim still. Cropped styles are great as less bulky to tuck in. I won't wear overlong maxis but a couple of inches above the ankle is flattering to me. I also find using the high waist to break colours up is most flattering, though I tend to wear low contrast or similar shades. It's also about the vertical proportions of your torso and legs. I never wear puffa coats and jackets as they make me look like the Michelin Man. It's good to try things on as well as some things surprise you in a good or bad way!
Same here! I'm 64, 5'3", 111 lbs, slender build. Not short waisted but something about my proportions always surprises people to find out how short I am. Can't wear petite sized pants or long sleeve garments because my arms & legs are about 1.5 inches too long. I've shopped the junior section my entire life while always making sure to keep purchases appropriate looking for my age. Clothes in the Ladies section are almost always dowdy, shapeless, and smallest sizes are too large on me.
One immediate comment I have, Elana, is about the pointed toe on the boot you showed. My feelings is that the pointed toe extends the look of the leg and makes it appear longer, but the problem is the bulkiness of that heel! I would never buy a boot or any shoe with a broad or broad/tall heel like that, which to me completely overpowers the shorter woman and makes her look bottom heavy. I look for a heel that is a little more sculpted -- not shaped for a high heel pump -- but definitely not that bulky. Sadly, boots with heels like that are hard to find.
Love your tips! I agree with everything, especially wearing cropped outerwear and avoiding pointy toes. I find my outfits look more flattering since I started wearing almond or rounded toe footwear. Game changer!
The longer coat over the midi dress is good, but the shoes you wear give your short legs a chopped up look and draw attention to the lack of length. Taller boots or black tights would have given you a longer look.
I liked the short boot look. I think showing a little skin (her legs) broke otherwise boring look. I think that visually it made sense to show a bit of her legs and made her look pleasing to the eye and not focus on how petite she looks. If she had worn taller boots or tights it would have shorten her appearance.
🥰You are a lifesaver 🥰 I am petite with a curvy figure. I struggled with too tight clothes looking sexy to go grocery shopping 😂😂Or like a bag lady because clothes that are too big makes me look frumpy. 🙏🏽Thank You for your styling tips. I feel appropriate when I go to the store or on a date now ☺️
The bag tip is such a great idea!!! First I'm hearing of it and I instantly see how right you are! As for the kid's section, I literally saw a super cute jacket there that was like 1/3 the price of the adult version (exact same brand and design - just different sizes), so I'm totally on board with you!
I love the last tip. I'm only 4'10 so I've actually been thinking especially for pants I should try the kids section. Petite size is for about 5'2 which is 4 inches taller than me. (But I need to lose some weight first)... I've also bought men's pants because they are sold by measurement and so are a bit more tailored. I'm actually thinking of looking at kids-- boys section for some things. That thought just came to me. (This works with basics like black jeans, sweaters, etc)
Am so happy you said pleats are good on short people. I have a pleated skirt really similar to yours! And also a pleated dress. Some influencers day pleats make you look bigger🤔
I find it annoying that influencers always assume that *everyone* wants to look slimmer. 🙄 Personally, I could use the illusion of a few *added* pounds. No one ever talks about how to do that!
I love the fit of boys jeans on me, they fit way better than the women’s high waist jeans due to short torso. My daughter loves buying the boys sweatpants at Walmart for herself 😂❤
Thank you for the video! I’m 5’ 108 and LOVE the dress you were wearing in the video. Do you mind sharing what size fit you and did you order regular or petite? Many thanks, new subscriber💕👏🏻🥰
I'm 5'2" and small framed. I've been looking for a ruana that isn't so overwhelming on me. Do you know of brands that have ruanas for shorter smaller women? Enjoyed your tips!
Are you sure you are a 32 bra band size because we are a similar size and I am a 28 band. Would love done recommendations for brand that come in that size
I totally agree about pointy toed shoes. I hate them. They make my feet look like boats. How about square toed shoes? I need a pair of heels (I am thinking kitten heels since I can't wear high heels) and wondered about square toed shoes.
Good question! I’m on the fence on square toe. I can’t decide if it like them or not so I haven’t tried them out.. I pretty much just stick with a almond toe/slightly pointed or a rounded toe depending on what type of shoe it is :) I’ve noticed I’ve never gotten tired of those styles! :)
It seems that ankle style footwear with a pants or dresses make the line of your legs look chopped up. It breaks up what should be a beautiful flow in favor of current style and trends.
Recently found your chanel and have found inconsistencies in your advice. I enjoy your content but you advice to shop in the kid section in one video then advice the contrary in another. You advice to not wear long trench coats in one then advise to wear them in another. Reminds me of the skin care influencers. I now know better but they had me running around buying products for skin issues just to come back later and advice to the contrary. This is just constructive criticism 😏
you probably haven't seen the video based on this comment but last fall I shared why I changed my mind on kids section and on long coats! to summarize, I learned long coats look great as long as they are not bulky fabrics and they are structured and fitted + has a flattering waistline. For kids section, you can find the same exact shoes in woman's and in kids a lot of the times! and I don't shop children when it comes to clothing (I know lots of my subscribers do and they love it) but sometimes I'll buy sneakers in kids. Also, kids clothing now a days is WAY better than when I was a kid LOL! I can't speak for the skincare side (that's niche is so confusing to me lol, I agree with you) but with style, people will learn ways to style things and I started this channel years ago and through that I had wonderful subscribers suggest me trying out long coats, and children section and longer dresses ect.. and I since learned beautiful ways to style these pieces as a petite.
The pointy toe booties can make you look taller when you wear it with wide leg jeans or trousers so it gives you slim look that make you look taller.
The oversized blazer is so NOT for petites is my opinion. You don’t have to follow every trend is my tip 😎

@@monakinnel9271 I agree. I love my oversized and menswear style items. Sometimes petite styles lose some "edge" and can look too old or too young!
Yes! It looks absolutely awful! It looks like a bag lady, it’s so ugly.

I loved that black pleated skirt with the leather jacket look, chef’s kiss! 🥰🥰🥰
Awwwhhh yayy thank you!🥰
I absolutely loved that entire outfit, head to toe. It had a casual chic vibe which is my preferred style of fashion 🤗

Absolutely shop boys' pants size 16 are the best for me!
Kids section is the best!!

Right?! 🙌🏼👏🏻
The longer coat over the midi dress is good, but the shoes you wear give your short legs a chopped up look and draw attention to the lack of length. Taller boots or black tights would have given you a longer look.
I thought that too. A much shorter calf boot or a tall ball OTK boot may have looked more slimming.
Or a shorter length skirt
I liked the short boot look. I think showing a little skin (her legs) broke otherwise boring look. I think that visually it made sense to show a bit of her legs and made her look pleasing to the eye and not focus on how petite she looks. I love wearing my crossbody on a shorter setting! Plus I get to cover the fupa a bit lmao
Elana your beige ankle boots are adorable they look great on you.
Wow I learned so much! I always wondered why others could pull of certain styles and I couldn't, but this makes sense :D
Yay!🥰🙌🏼
Great tips Elana. I would say also that waist emphasis for petites is super important! And avoiding oversized clothes. 😊
Yes! ❤️❤️
I do wear kids' jeans- works really well
Great petite tips as always! I was very happy that I found your channels before 2 years. I am 155 cm and Bra size 34 DD. Greatings from Germany!

Awhhh!!! So happy to hear that!! 🥰 I’m glad I can help 🥰❤️
Petite plus sized clothing might be a good fit even if you need the smaller sizes. Example: size 2 petite plus instead of size 2 petite.
The bag tip is such a great idea!!! First I'm hearing of it and I instantly see how right you are!

Men’s pants will never fit womanly curves. They are too small in the hips and way too big in the waist.
Great advice for the blazer fitting on the shoulder.
❤️❤️❤️
Love love your videos even though I am much older than you by any chance can you tell where you bought the pleated dress so flattering thanks 🙏
Thanks for sharing these tips.

Very helpful tips and advice. Thanksx

Whaaaaat! No way!! I personally think they give a slimming effect because of the vertical lines! I love pleats ❤️ I want to look for more pieces!
I find it annoying that influencers always assume that *everyone* wants to look slimmer. 🙄 Personally, I could use the illusion of a few *added* pounds. No one ever talks about how to do that!
@@altitudeiseverything3163 me too! Pleats should be in finer fabric if you want to slim down, thicker is better to add a few inches.
@@angelatewson8202 That’s a great idea, thanks! A pleated wool skirt would be beautiful! I think Eileen Fisher may have one in the fall collection. 👍

Love that pole in Paris purse. Where can I find it. Thanks
good video! I learned a lot thanks

My daughter just got a super nice high quality men's xs sweatshirt from Walmart. Fabric seems much nicer than the women's
I need to go check them out! Thank you!!!
What would your advice be for wedding dress for the top ???
hey! where is the black coat from?? :)
Thank you for sharing Elana always good to know how to combine outfits.
I have been children's bike shorts and tank tops for several years. They fit so much better and are cheaper.
What stores are good for finding kids clothes? I’m older but still like to stay on trend.
Thank you for the video! I’m 5’ 108 and LOVE the dress you were wearing in the video. Do you mind sharing what size fit you and did you order regular or petite? Many thanks, new subscriber💕👏🏻🥰
Thank you so much!! :) I'm wearing a XS petite :) :)
Thank you so much for responding! I so appreciate it Elana💕
I'm 4.10..I feel "petite" is not petite enough for me😒🤣
I’ve been buying children’s shoes for years since my feet are smaller. You can find stylish shoes in the girls section and usually for less
wait! Should we use point shoes or not?
I'm 5'2" and small framed. I've been looking for a ruana that isn't so overwhelming on me. Do you know of brands that have ruanas for shorter smaller women? Enjoyed your tips!
There are some cute petite sized clothing available online. It’s not all grandma styles. It’s made for people under 5’4”.
Are you sure you are a 32 bra band size because we are a similar size and I am a 28 band. Would love done recommendations for brand that come in that size
Yes I’m a 32! Check out bare necessities, lots of bras carry sooo many different sizes ❤️
I have a huge issue w/ cross body bags sometimes no matter how much you adjust they dont work!
Just take them to a cobbler and he can shorten the strap.
Opinion on infinity scarves for fall? I’ve been reading they are sort of out of style for this year..
It's easy to 8get that look with a regular scarf. Twice round the neck, tie ends at back or front. Tuck in ends if you want the infinity look!
Yes, thank you. But I’ve been reading that infinity scarves were not in style this fall!

Another tip is avoid wearing low rise jeans, it will make your legs shorter.
Where can I find the necklace you are wearing?
Ana Luisa! ❤️
I only wear large hats on the beach
But some vlogger said Pointee shoes is good specialy for short legs coz it shoes you have longger legs
I cannot wear pointed shoes

That tank doesn’t fit you. once you hike up the the straps the darts are in the wrong place.
I notice that as well. The darts fell above the bust line, so too high. The tip is still useful, I think, because not all tops have darts. ☺️
❤️😁👌🏻
What shoe size r u?
I’m a 6! Sometimes 5.5
But remember with adjustable strap tops, THINK BUST DARTS!
Yes!!! Thank you for pointing that out 🫶🏻
U r sooo cute love your tips
Boots like Dr Martens on the kid side, size 6 half the price and less bulky than the adult ones
You are so beautiful
Balloon arms, oversized coats, underwear as outerwear - pass.
I shop girls sizes frequently.
My stylist said do not wear a hat with a brim wider than your shoulders.
Wow!! That is such a good tip! I never thought of that :)
You look liked you have lost weight. Hope you & all are doing well
I did, I had a baby a year ago and dropped some weight after. :) everything is well!! Thanks for checking in ❤️

Pleats? No, not for curvy and short. A sheath, or pencil skirt is much better.
I think these tips are for women, not “guys”. I am not a “guy”.
Do you have to over explain so much? Get to the point please
I disagree with almost everything you say. But who care what I think?
