    I studied Moon in my A-Level film course, and I'm really surprised how many of the same ideas and themes I touched on in my essays that re-appear in your video.
    The film's contrast between a man having just left his wife and coming to terms with the idea he'll be alone for 3 years with his coping mechanism being avoidance and anger - and the same man 3 years down the road, finally accepting his place just to be broken down and throw from his comfort into despair.
    Rockwell does such an excellent job at portraying the same man at two very different points in his life, the emotion, the deterioration, the determination - he creates such an emotionally devastating timeline for Sam Bell. I took to the idea of colour theory, how Sam 1 fits with blue and Sam 2 fits with red - sadness and anger in contrast (something I saw in the video with you describing the differences between Sam 1 and 2 yourself) but I also love how every yellow item, though artificial and planted by Lunar ltd, is a source of happiness for Sam in the sterile and simplistic environment of the Sarang Base.
    The jokes of being alone developing into being the only version of you 'wake me up when its quitting time' 'I am the one and only' - I just think it's brilliant.
    Thank you for covering the film, I wish I'd found this video during my studies, but at least I can reflect back upon it now :)

    I discovered your channel from you series on house. Your break downs and analysis of TV and movies is absolutely astounding but what I find is just as impressive if not more is how you manage to take these really in depth, very complicated concepts and put them into a narrative that somehow simplifies and makes it easy to understand yet doesn't compromise on anything else. you are an incredible talent with amazing skill, and I cannot thank you enough for all of these videos.

    Is it possible that all the Sams on the Moon were clones -- even the first one to be activated 15 years ago? After all they all have the "memory" of coming to the Moon.
    That would fix the pod number issue.
    And this might make sense. The "original" Sam was trained, cloned and mind synced -- but never left Earth, especially since all that training is valuable. Another corporate asset.
    Or maybe the original Sam rocketed to the moon -- inspected all his clones -- completed whatever has to be done for mind-syncing/memory storage and then went back home.
    The recordings of his wife were something she was also paid to do for a 3 year period.

    • @hackbear5668
      @hackbear5668 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right... The original Sam Bell simply trained for his mission on Earth for 3 years in isolation as a test for whether or not his clones would be able to withstand the overwhelming isolation. He still worked, and was isolated...but I think the biggest part of it is that he didn't want to risk actual spaceflight because of the overwhelming fear of him being lost to his family. If you look at the trial scene in Mute, you can tell he is filled with shame and regret. He sold out his clones and in turn lost 3 years of life with his family. I also have the feeling Tess died not long after his "training" mission. Eve seems to only barely remember her mother at 15, which probably means she was still only 3 or 4 at the time of her death. Another thing that ties in with Mute that makes me think that is the loss of parents and the fear thereof as an overarching theme.

    15:12 not sure if it was a mistake of translation or intentional, but 안녕히 계세요 is "goodbye" you say to someone who is staying and you are the one leaving. 안녕히 가세요 is "goodbye" you say to someone who is going away and you are staying. Not sure if this was intentional as a nod to the fact that Sam is never truly leaving, or just a mistake of using a foreign language. Or maybe I'm mistaken, Korean isn't my native language.

    I greatly enjoyed this film, but I have very mixed feelings about it because of it's one BIG flaw. Namely, the final denouement, the big reveal that solves the central mystery, involves a totally unrealistic and non-sensical technology. It's the same for the film The 6th Day. I guess people who LOVE this movie are able to ignore it. All sci-fi involves some of this to some extent. All fiction involves suspending disbelief. But this one really bugged me, once I started thinking about it 10 mins after the film ended. Really good sci-fi will at least address a glaring hole like that and come up with a plot device to explain it. But it's still worth watching IMHO.
