I think the reasons you mentioned are the exact same reasons I would consider when Buying a new smartphone.I totally agree with you on the point that a 3 year old flagship is still good enough in 2023
True, I had bought the OP 8T when it was one year old, three years ago. So, I am going to buy the 8849 Unihertz Tank 3 Pro this year, because it's one year old. Might live as long as 3 Years on Auto Software Updates, and One Year on Manual Update.
What I said is that not all of us can afford flagship phones, so the yearly releases drop the prices of the older ones, and that battery life hasn't improved all that much,maybe solid state lithium batteries will be the future flagships
I think smartphone manufacturers making phones every year does not mean that we have to upgrade every year. You can have your own upgrade cycle of 2 or 3 years which is enough time for the phones to have progressed with new features which are worth upgrade..

Evdn a Huawei Mate from 2018 is still good enough for most people. Most won't notice a difference.
