    Here it is guys! Star Wars Episode 9.. the final star wars. A lot of people have urged me to not watch the sequel trilogy but I'm honestly glad I did, even if they aren't to compare to the other trilogies, they were still worth it in my eyes. I really thought I would hate the sequels, but I didn't, and actually really enjoyed episode 7&9 more than I thought I would!
    Thank you guys for joining me on my Star Wars journey, I didn't realize how much I loved the universe until I got immersed in it. Now I'm so heavily tied to these characters it hurts to see anything happen to them LOL it feels like I was missing this part of my life and I can safely call myself a Star Wars fan. Thank you guys for exposing me to Star Wars and I hope you guys enjoyed the ride with me!! It was definitely wild at times LOL
    But in the end you guys were right. I did love it❤

    I remember reading some place, that the Scene with Han Solo was originally written for Lea's Force ghost, but Carrie's passing made them talk to Harrison Ford and convincing him on returning for one last scene, even though in the Star Wars Universe, Jedi's talking to their dead relatives was not a thing. Still, for a lot of us fans, watching Han's character one last time was very emotional.
    I loved Carrie Fisher and I was very saddened by her passing. All the things she revealed about herself in Craig Ferguson's show were fantastic. She was so fun, positive, amazing, in the face of addiction, bipolar disorder and lost memories due to electroshock therapy, a true inspiration for a lot of us who complain so hard in the face of mild disappointment.

It talks about something being thought to be destroyed returning, hatching like an egg (the Sith in Episode I; Darth Sidious in Episode IX) and that an unusually powerful force wielder, of atypical birth (Anakin: born of midichlorian manipulation; Rey: born of a clone of Palpatine) would be the one to destroy this resurgence.
      The Chosen One prophecy is intentionally up for debate in Star Wars lore to demonstrate how relativity can affect interpretation. The Jedi believed that the Force in its organic state was the light side, meaning that bringing balance to it required obliterating the dark. The Sith, and specifically Sidious, believed the opposite. The Mortis gods (and those who aligned with their interpretation, like the Bendu and, for a time, Luke Skywalker during his time on Ach-To) believed that light and dark needed to be equal to achieve true balance.
      TL;DR - There are multiple ways to look at the chosen one prophecy and what it means to bring balance to the Force, even within the canon itself, but that doesn't undo the importance of Anakin's sacrifice in Episode VI. And that was the case before Episode IX and is still the case after.

    • @MrXMysteriousX
      @MrXMysteriousX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Progger11 i'm not refuting his sacrifice was not important.
      Obviously he saved Luke and in terms of himself redeemed himself.
      However, he cannot be said to have brought balance to the force if Palpetine via clones etc was still around, likewise for Snoke and if its only temporarily balanced (which it was) its not worth having a prophecy about that part. It'd be about the end, namely Ben and Rey (the chosen two, if you will)
      "Bring balance back to force like i did" was just JJs attempt at cutting off the real criticism he's undone the prophecy ahead of time and ignores what we can objectively see.
      Did Anakin completely stop the Sith when it was 1-6 : Yes
      Did Anakin completely stop the Sith 1-9 :No
      Oh, i'm sure you'd go with "But Ben and Rey" but thats a continuation and a continuation tacitly admits it was NOT STOPPED, which means balance was never achieved.
      You can't honestly expect an ancient prophecy was fulfilled regarding balance if that balance didn't last a considerable time likewise if the prophecy is you stopping something yet your grandkid actually did it, it'd be wrong to assume the chosen one was Anakin, it'd be about Ben or Rey and couldn't be about both anyway because "chosen one" specifically means one.
      And as for your "the prophecy applies more than once" thing, thats just you pulling things outta your ass.
      Prophecies apply once and you can't keep having "multiple chosen ones" the clue is the damn name "Chosen *ONE*
      If it was meant as you describe the prophecy would be worded different.
      So in 1-8s framework its either:
      The prophecy was wrong
      Or
      Anakin wasn't the chosen one but Rey or Ben is (which would be moronic because 1-6 was written independent to them)
      You can't square that hole dude, no matter how you play around with it to defend these trainwreck movies.
      As for "keeping it balanced" Sure, keeping the force balanced would be an ongoing thing but its a world apart from being the one to balance it.
      It's like Peace, yes ,we all do our part to maintain it but the hero had to get that peace and considering its "chosen one" not "everyone and their mother" you should admit the truth they messed with a key part of the lore and it can't be reconciled with the pre-existing prophecy of 1-6 even if they hang a lantern on the obvious by having Anakin address it.

But I just can't find any enjoyment out of them. At least the Prequels captured me by having interesting lore, expansive world building, and an emotionally gripping story about one of the most iconic characters in cinema, even if the dialog was sub-par at best. And I can't find any of that in the Sequels. Dialog isn't cringe worthy (most of the time), but the narrative is discombobulated, the world building is non-existent, none of the new characters have much in the way of character arcs, and the existing and iconic characters were hand-waved away as if their presence was detrimental to the plot.

      @Jollyroger84103 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TheArbiterOfTruth Respectfully, I disagree. I honestly think The Last Jedi was the best of the Sequels, and that's not saying much given how immensely I disliked it. It has lots of good scenes that, if taken completely out of context of the rest of the trilogy, Skywalker Saga, and Star Wars as a whole, would be great scenes. The part where Rey was seeing all the reflection was great (until they had her do a voice over). The scene where Leia dies was beautiful (until the Mary Poppins'd her). The bit where Snoke is reprimanding Kylo in the Throne Room was wonderful. And, as much as it destroyed the verisimilitude of the Star Wars universe, Holdo's Maneuver was easily the most visually stunning shot in all of Star Wars. But these individual scenes were absolutely destroyed by the rest of the film, in terms of the universe in which they exist, and the plot wherein these scenes are surrounded by.
      So yes, The Last Jedi sucked. Sucked pretty hard. But at least there were a few scenes that are at least worth watching in and of themselves. The Force Awakens? Can you name a scene that is as good as any of the ones I mentioned from The Last Jedi? Maybe Han's death? Maybe Hux's Hitler-esque speech? I mean, the movie is basically a more poorly written but prettier version of A New Hope, but if I wanted a telling of A New Hope, I'd just go watch that. The Rise of Skywalker certainly doesn't have any scenes that are worth while. I couldn't stop myself from laughing out loud at multiple scenes that were supposed to be emotional, cringing at scenes that were supposed to be funny, and being absolutely bored out of my mind at the fetch-quest plot.
      At least The Last Jedi tried to do something new. It failed, miserable, but A for effort and F for results. The Rise of Skywalker didn't even try to be good, just cramming in as much a fan service as they could into a 2.5 hour movie.

Tommy Wiseau's character in the famously terrible movie The Room is a true example of this. Rey, on the other hand, has plenty of flaws and plenty of failures and struggles that occur because of her own flaws. Just because she learned cool Jedi powers without an 80's training montage doesn't make her a Mary Sue and people really need to stop misusing this term so much.

In general the constant feeling that this film is trying to undermine its predecessor results in this film's story feeling underbaked and honestly kind of mean-spirited. All the main characters of this film end up getting no significant development or characterisation of their own, and are often left with nothing left to do (John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran deserved so much better), and ultimately serve no purpose but to elevate and bolster the original trilogy heroes.
    That said, I am glad that you enjoyed it. It'd be a pretty boring world if we all agreed about everything wouldn't it?

      It doesn’t undo anything from episode 6. Anakin’s redemption wasn’t to kill Palpatine, it was to save his son.
      In the Legends books, there’s always a Palpatine clone dormant somewhere ready to pop up when it’s plot convenient. I would have like it to be built up better, but I’m actually glad Palpatine was the big bad. He was the puppet master behind everything since episode 1 (chronologically), he makes sense that he was still pulling strings to see the end of the Skywalker bloodline.

    This movie actually works really well with The Last Jedi. I know TLJ is a huge bummer, but the highest highs of both TFA and TRoS only work because of the lows and tests TLJ present. You have to remember, Luke learns of the real horrors his father committed (younglings, innocents) before becoming Vader (and the realities of the Jedi that failed him) while dealing with Ben, AND Palpatine influencing him just like Anakin with self fulfilling visions. So much of this film works because TLJ sets it up.
    I love both, they are kind of antithetical of each other, TLJ asks why things are important while TRoS is the answer. I think they are like the epilogue to the original trilogy. Like when the hobbits in the book return to the Shire after destroying the ring and Saruman had set up shop; it's like their own personal test of how do we know we are safe after our heroes are gone.
    Palpatines return has been in the backstory for decades. it's first not so subtly hinted at in RotS with his Opera storytelling with Anakin. "the dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some would consider to be unnatural" is a direct callback to that. So it's Sith Cloning. The Clone Wars, Bad Batch, Rebels and Mandalorian have all explored various aspects of what that means. It's all really cool.

    • @rash1990ful
      @rash1990ful 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. Upon rewatching the entire ST, I see TROS as acknowledging, enhancing, and fulfilling everything TLJ started and established. Wasn't noticeable initially due to TROS' breakneck pacing. Didn't see anything as being retconned. Also, too many viewers actually forgot how TLJ started and ended they piled on TROS for seemingly trying to "undo" TLJ.

One of my main criticism of the sequels is that they are aimed at the casual audience, and that they mainly ignored the hardcore fan base. One of the best things about Star Wars is the fact that it’s an entire galaxy with its own unique history, reading and watching the evolution of the society was always a delight, but with the sequel trilogy, Disney settled with having a bunch of lightsabers, cool ships and explosions without expanding the universe and lore. The way events transpire in the sequels is illogical, to me there is no sense of progression, things seen to happen just because they do, and we aren’t really given an explanation, and while Disney did try to clear things up in my opinion it just made things messier. Fortunately, Disney seems to be moving in the right direction with the franchise and I’m excited to see what’s next

The rules were there for a reason.

    It's not "undoing" Ep VIII it's called "Character development" Luke realized he was wrong by the end of The Last Jedi, NOT in this movie.

      These are all good movies about the skywalkers trauma when you step back.

    17:05 this isn't undoing Episode 8, it's a natural progression. Luke realized the fault in his ways by the end of Ep 8 after all of his time with Rey, and then a lesson from Yoda about failure, and finally after his sacrifice to help the Resistance escape.
    This is Luke coming full circle and helping Rey to learn from HIS mistakes, she's literally about to repeat his mistake of running away to the island out of a fear over his/her influence on the galaxy as a powerful Jedi. His is from what happened with Ben, hers over the Palpatine legacy and how she just almost killed Chewie and Ben/Kylo.
    If anything this particular story beat is a pretty good continuation of the themes and plot from Last Jedi rather than any sort of redo.

      I think it’s done poorly as a continuation. They should have divided this movie in two parts so they can actually portrait many of the intended scenes to make this movie digestible.

      100% agreed. TROS continued, enhanced, fulfilled, and redeemed all of themes, ideas, and story choices made in TLJ, even if the execution is flawed. Not noticeable the first time due to the breakneck pacing. Many fans completely and blatantly misread and misinterpreted the events of TLJ and failed to notice how TROS actually followed up on every single aspect of TLJ so well. All these accusations of TROS exercising damage control against backlash towards TLJ and "course-correcting" TLJ in an effort to "appease the toxic fandom and whiny fanboys" completely miss the mark of exactly what TLJ, especially its final act, was conveying: that "let the past die" is NOT the theme of TLJ and that everything that is relevant to the saga (Jedi-Sith dichotomy, Rebellion-Empire conflict, Chosen One mythos etc.) still matters in the end. Both Abrams and Terrio have even gone on record saying that the bold choices Johnson made in TLJ actually encouraged them to be bold with TROS' story and motivated them to embrace and expand on the themes and ideas Johnson raised. A fact very evident upon rewatching the ST again and again and paying attention to all the important details.

      You can love those movies... but don't make esoteric claims to make some sense out of it. It was a reactionary response to 8 backlash, everyone knows this.... even people at Disney acknowledged the unplanned nature of the sequels.

    Kylo probably has the best character and story arc in the entire sequel trilogy.

    i thought it could not get worse after "The Last Jedi", but "The Rise Of Skywalker" just made it. The whole sequel trilogy is an example on how not to make good movies. I will never watch any of them ever again.

      he's a tragic character, his death is a better ending. had he survived, we would have had a "happily ever after" ending with Rey, ironically a "Disney" ending

      A big thank you to all you Disney Star Wars sequel trilogy supporters. You guys helped ruin The Star Wars franchise along with Disney. There are 2 Star Wars fan groups. one group supports George Lucas and are fans of George Lucas and his 6 movies. The other group is the Disney Star Wars supporters. That supports the crap that Disney puts out. Us George Lucas fans and supporters are not putting up with the crap that Disney is putting out, so that's why Lucas films is only worth a quarter of what it was worth back in 2012 when Disney bought Lucas films. Disney needs money so bad that they are selling parts of the company. I hope that Lucas films is one of the things they are selling and whoever buys it. I hope they get rid of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Because if they don't then they are just buying a company that's not gonna be worth anything.

    Thank you !

    22:20, it doesn't surprise me that Sidious is that powerful! He is literally a 117-year-old Sith Lord. He spends all of his free time practicing his force abilities.
