    Wow! You are a very good teacher.
    This is the first time that I understand how this kind of rythm goes.
    Your explanations are very clear and one can tell by your way of communicating that you are a nice person.
    Thank you!
    It's going to take lots of work!

    You are the first person I’ve found on TH-cam to clearly explain the steps and to encourage the use of a metronome. Thank you! I have been struggling with strumming and this is SO helpful!!

    The riff: E String: 5 hammer to 7 pull off to 4 then on A pluck: 7 then 5. Then pluck 7 and 5 on the E

      Hammering on in a technique for playing two notes with one pluck. I show it in this video briefly - but I will cover it in more detail ;-) thanks for watching!

    • @mistermomo2904
      @mistermomo2904 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nadia Ignacio oh noo. Idk how I didn’t see this reply but the ukulele has four strings: G, C, E, and A from top to bottom. Basically what I mean is you pluck the e string on 5th fret then on your left hand you thrust your finger onto the 7th fret without plucking and it makes a sound. Then you make sure another finger is on the 4th fret of that string and you pull the finger that was on the 7th fret off like if you were plucking with ur left hand. Look up hammer one and pull offs. Same set of rules for the second part

    Wonderful! I especially appreciate your stressing and selling the value of the metronome.
    This was one of our favorite tunes in the uke group we had going at my workplace.... but we didn't have the rhythm down as sweet.
    I'll forward the link.
    Thank you!

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your patience and your willingness to work with a metronome. I’ve received a lot of feedback on my video here that I am “talking too much “… What I am trying to do is to explain clearly to someone just starting out the importance of coordinating the body, instrument and metronome into one action.
      Happy playing and thanks for watching 😊🎶🤙

    Haha yo you cracked me up! Make it your friend. Just today I was telling myself man I need to use a metronome more. So did the guys I was jamming with. I’ think focusing on ukulele will improve my strum. Been playing since I was 18. Unfortunately I broke my pinky a year ago and it healed in a weird rotation and hypertension. Still been debating on rebreaking it with surgery but man would suck if it made it worse. Im 33. Love ukulele and all reggae music. Mostly all acoustic player.

Thank you for this free way to be a better player and person I suppose.🙂 I lost my 88 year old grandmother yesterday, you just helped me, even more so than a couple hundred dollar counseling session lol. Definitely happy to give you a like and subscribe to your channel. I have never been so impressed with such a good positive outlook and attitude. Came to just learn some basic music skills, instead, not only did I get what I came for, I also received free emotional support. That my kind sir, is priceless. Thank you. I think that finger placement is a fundamental detail. my model is to use as little as possible, so a d chord I use my index sometime's add my middle to get a clearer tone response, and that way I can play fill's at the same time without even changing the strum pattern

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you… and couldn’t agree more… Having options for your fingers to let go of chords and fill-in with riffs is a great thing to do to make this sound more full… And it’s just plain fun. Be well - Stu

    blo..dy syncopated strumming. The moment I relax ...my brain ... I fall into strumming the 1 and 3 instead of 2 and 4. Well, I guess just another 20 h's practice will cure that ;-).

My first introduction to using a metronome: it's an awesome practice tool. I felt bad not buying it a beer 😂 I'm nowhere at a level to the play the song like you do but I can now strum a new way and have learnt to mute. Going slow is such good advice. You have the skill to make learning fun despite it being challenging. I smiled throughout the lesson. And you're just so darn likeable as well. Keep sharing those great vibes.

    Thanks for the video!! Super helpful--I am finally in rhythm!! After some practice though, I find that the only way to not lose the fretted chord is to keep holding it with fingers 1-3 and use the pinky finger to mute the strings on the up beats... Is this wrong? I'm not relaxing my whole hand! I've lost the chill!!

    Thanks! This is a great video. I'm a beginning uke player, but I've played bluegrass mandolin for a few years. It's so cool that bluegrass mandolin and reggae both have the strum on the 2 and 4, so that part feels really natural! I've played a lot tapping my toe on the 1 and 3, while strumming 2 and 4. Who knew that bluegrass translated so easily into reggae?? Of course, maybe only the mandolin players....

    • @UkuleleZen
