    Bruce, I enjoy everything you create! You have an amazing way of relating history, and all the background on cocktails, and you have made a stunning drink, here, again!! I am always amazed, as someone newer to making cocktails, versus just having a nice glass of white wine, how easily cocktails become diluted with a shake! Newbies have to be careful not to overdilute. I'm learning! I am definitely going to experiment with this cocktail, and trying it stirred and shaken. Loved learning more about the mob life in Detroit. I imagine it being pretty rough and violent during prohibition. Detroit always feels like a tough city. It's so interesting how this drink came to be!! Hey, I like that stir spoon that came with the Aviation Gin!! Good gift to include with the spirit!! This is a gin I often reach for. I am experimenting with using Calvados, as I am new to it, so this is a great opportunity! Terrific video!!

    My Aviation gin came with a couple martini glasses with planes on them. Having seen this tonight, I got out the bottle and some artisan handmade apple brandy I have, to make this cocktail. I did the unshaken version, but will try the shaken version next time. It's hot here in California, so I might appreciate the colder variation at this point. A superb cocktail, though!

    So i did a random fruit cocktail search and found a kunquat whiskey sour by Feizal Valli at the Hot & Hot Fish Club in Birmingham, Alabama
    1 lemon, juiced
    1 lime, juiced
    3 kumquats, sliced and deseeded
    2 1/2 ounces simple syrup
    1 1/2 ounces bourbon
    Garnish: kumquat round
    Directions
    To create the sour mix, combine lemon juice, lime juice, kumquats, and simple syrup in a blender.
    Combine 2 ounces of the kumquat sour mix with 1.5 ounces bourbon in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a cocktail glass.
    Garnish with a kumquat round
    soon as I find some kumquat, I am going to give it a go.

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds interesting. I haven't seen kumquats in the store, but then again, I haven't been looking for them. I'm going to keep an eye out next grocery run. With the sweet peel and tart flesh of kumquats, how could you go wrong? I'm going to give this a go. Thanks for the recipe. Cheers!

    What is the difference between a dry gin and a regular gin?

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are basically four types of gin that have evolved over time - Dutch Gin or Genever, Old Tom Gin, London Dry Gin, and Distilled Gin. I guess the question is the difference between a London Dry and a Distilled gin (regular gin). London Dry Gin emerged in 19th century London. Nowadays though, it doesn't have to come from London, it's a style rather than a place. There are a few rules that producers adhere to when making a London dry. I won't get into the details right now, but the predominant flavour must be juniper. As for a Distilled Gin, it’s made in the same way, as a London Dry, except for one big difference, Distilled Gin can have any flavourings added to it after the distillation process. This means that while the gin must still be distilled with botanicals, there might be added artificial or natural flavourings, various essences and sweetened up a bit if the producer wishes to. The best I can suggest is, get out there and explore. There's a world of gins to enjoy. Cheers!
