    Facing employment termination as an H1-B visa holder can be insanely stressful. You may feel you're out of luck and may feel defeated. However, I assure you there are more options available than you think.
    Why am I so confident? Because I've been there and done that. The US had the Great Recession from 2007 to 2009. Nearly 9 Million American jobs were lost, and the US unemployment rate peaked at 10% in October 2009. Like what's happening now, tens of thousands of H1-B workers were laid off then.
    I was one among them. In fact, I had my H1B visa transfer request denied twice and came within 24 hours of leaving the US forever. However, I didn't give up; I turned every stone and explored every opportunity. My efforts paid off. I went on to get my H1-B and green card and became a US Citizen a few years ago. In fact, I started greencardEZ to help hard-working immigrants who want to do the right thing and pursue their American Dream.
    Today, I'm sharing all the options I explored and some additional ones unavailable back then due to different rules.

    Hey that was a nice explanation
    I have a question. I already crossed the grace period but my employer have not terminated me, for many reason I lost the projects during this time like project went on hold etc. I have 2 months left
    I have 2 semesters left to complete my EMBA I was ex student to in the school, can I change my visa status From h1 to F1 (day1 -cpt)
    If I apply for petition, will uscis approve it or they ask supporting document???
    What document they may ask?

    Hi, I have an approved H1-b visa, but recently, I got laid off, I am looking into new employment, but it might take some time, what is the best approach here ? Lets say my termination date is 15 December, and I get new offer on 22nd of December, how long would it take for me start working again ?

    Hi, what about the WARN act? Companies like Microsoft and Meta usually keep people on payroll for 2-4 months. In that case, will the grace period be 2 months/60 days or 4 months (2 months payroll + 2 months grace period after payroll ends)? Thanks

      Without looking at the specifics of the employment termination agreement, it’s hard to discuss specifics.
      Typically the 60-day period starts on the last day one was employed, i.e., the last day on which one was paid.
