Building my first bus- so no experience with sealant but I’m digging goop marine caulk. Paintable and uv resistant. Great video highlighting the addictive nature of bus building! But there are a lot of worse things to be into. For example gambling. You gotta know when to hold em know when to fold em. Glad it’s brought the 2 of you together.

Fun Video!! I look forward to seeing what else you two have in the works.
With regards to sealant; I've been running a marine repair business for coming up on 12 years now, and one of my most used sealants is 3M 4000 UV. I've used it on all kinds of boat hardware, above and below the waterline. The key with all sealant is to bed the entire surface area of the part, paying special attention to the fasteners. In my opinion, a bead of caulk around the outside edge is worthless. Regardless, the other key to making a lasting seal is cleaning. I prep both surfaces to be sealed like I would do paint prep. Wipe everything down with the strongest solvent that you can without damaging the substrates. Then lightly abrade the surfaces and wipe them down again. Make sure they are completely, and I do mean COMPLETELY, free of any contaminants. And then hit it with solvent one more time just to be sure 😉. Ensure the solvent is completely evaporated before applying sealant. I have used this method on underwater Thru-Hull fittings, hatches, portlight trim rings, deck cleats, etc. I've seen some of these jobs again 10 years later and still zero leaks, and I expect they'll go for many more years. It's a lot of extra work, but it's worth it if you want leak-free connections.
Keep the videos coming! Love you guys😘

This vehicle has an interference engine and when they upgraded the timing chain or belt they did it wrong and it bent some valves. You have a 50/50 chance when dealing with an interference engine of getting it right if you don't know what you're doing you have to make damn sure you have everything done the right way otherwise you risk screwing it up. Top dead center on the correct compression stroke is the difference between doing it right and screwing up an engine like this

Use marine grade polyurethane sealer. UV resistant, for use in salt water above or below water line, rated as a 50 year duration. 30% flexible yet very strong, and bonds to most any type of material.

Polyurethane that is used for windshields it lasts a long time I found it seals windows at seals a lot of things little spendy but wow look how long a windshield stays in a car from Factory and does not leak. We're looking into our bus right now been looking at some we're close to you guys well sort of we're in southern Oregon still in the Pacific Northwest we got a lead on a couple we just haven't figured out what one we want what is the 38 but and the other one is a 40 it's good to see Charlie was always following his videos now I follow yours because of his suggestion on his videos you choose you awesome videos keep up the awesome work

I use polyurethane roof and flashing sealant. It was originally designed for sealing the windows on high rise buildings. Which obviously can't all be pulled out and resealed every couple years.
I've used it on the roof of our tiny home on wheels. Over 5 years ago. And the sealant is still as soft as it was a year after I used it. And believe me. Our Arizona sun destroys everything, in a fairly short period of time. Except this stuff.
At "Home Depot" they call it "Polyurethane Roof and Flashing Sealant". Great stuff!!! I've even repaired leather items. Using it as a glue. And in most cases. It's still going strong years later. That's not what it's designed for though. It adheres to everything I've used it on, without fail. Try it and let me know what you think. By the way, it comes in standard caulking gun tubes. Good Luck

@@ChristineJohnston-v5w that stuff sounds solid! I’ll definitely give it a shot, thank you! ..funny when it seems so obvious to just look at projects where the product HAS to be good… i.e. high rise building windows.. hahah love that. Same reason why i often default to marine products :)
