Well, it's Tuesday so I think that gives me an idea of how your Monday went. 😀 In all seriousness, thank you for such kind words. It means so much that you enjoyed my video. Thank you for the encouragement. Have a great day!
Every time you make a video, I just want to sit back and relax, great job!! Don't let people get you down about collecting, I collect and I love it, hope you have a wonderful day! 😊👍👍❤
Hi Melinda, thank you for showing your records. My favorites are the John Cougar Mellencamp box set, Van Halen , 7’ inches and Kiss - Rock and Roll Over. I absolutely, love and have the, John Cougar - American Fool, Van Halen and Kiss - Rock and Roll Over , records !! I ‘ll tune in next time. Take Care. 🎤🎸🎵🎹🥁
Hey Dianne! I love Rock & Roll Over. What an incredible album. I can never have too much Van Halen and Mellencamp is a sentimental favorite. Thank you for saying hi. Have a great end of the week. ♥️🤗
Another uplifting and informative video, Melinda. I always feel better about my lifelong passion after I watch these. “Rock and Roll Over” is my favorite Kiss album, and I will always regret putting the sticker on my seventh-grade locker. It was cool for a year, but then the year ended and I had to leave it forever. Must get another good copy of the LP, sticker and enclosure - and if someone has already filled it out, all the better!
I know you regret using the sticker but that's what we were supposed to do. Lol. I'm sure you got a year-long enjoyment of seeing it every day. You probably had the coolest locker in the school. 😎 Thank you and take care.
I love your channel you talk about the memories and emotions connected to the albums which is the primary reason I buy records. It's a refreshing take on collecting thank you
I was listening to a podcast today (there you go Chance!) about FoMo and how TH-cam channels might cause this kind of purchase. Then just thought to myself how I always like what I saw on your channel but never felt pushed to buy anything. You’ve found the right formula to talk music in an approachable and honest way. Aerosmith OGs are great, I love them all!
Thank you very much for the shout out Melinda so glad you enjoyed the basie album. Easily One of the best sounding records in my collection. I have bought four of the Basie albums now and will be doing a video in the future about them. They all sound fantastic Basie on Pablo is one of those better kept secrets. Thanks again much appreciated
Hi Ron! Thanks for bringing that album to our attention. It sounds just as good as you said it did. I've always trusted your judgement and knowledge and once again you are proven right. I appreciate you so much. Take care. 🤗♥️
Totally agree with your assessment of the VMP version of Honky Chateau - fantastic sound! And yes Mona Lisas song is gorgeous-his supreme vocal on this hidden gem just blows me away. Thanks for the video 🙂
I agree. Elton John has so many great songs that Mona Lisa's doesn't get the love it deserves. He has perfect vocals on that song. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
Jack & Diane Is A Memorable Track Indeed...I Remember It A Cloudy Saturday Afternoon When I First Saw The Video For Jack & Diane In Kasey Casems Top 10...The Only Song I Ever Like By Him...
I sure love Casey Kasem and his top 40 and top 10 shows. I barely remember that video. It's been such a long time since I have seen it. Lol. Thank you and take care.
This video brought back memories. Reliving some of the old days that this brought up makes me feel very good and I had a smile on my face. Once again you have made a great video. As always thank you for the video and thank you for that smile.❤❤❤❤️
Love the volleyball/Mellencamp story (setter here). I enjoy your grounded approach to your content. Happy that you publish these videos as they make me smile. Keep on keeping on! 🏐
Playing volleyball sure was a lot of fun wasn't it? ♥️🤗 Thank you so much for your kind words. The encouragement is much appreciated. Have a great night!
Great video! I have that John Mellencamp box set and it really does sound great! Love it!! I was also in the 6th grade when Jack and Diane came out. I remember one of the kids in my class bringing the 7 inch vinyl record and gave it to the music teacher and she played it for the whole class to listen! Great memories!! American Fool and Scarecrow are my favorite of his albums and I love the song Small Town.
Great memories. Teachers would never play that 45 today. I remember those old tan record players they had in every class back in the day. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
Hello Melinda! Sorry I’m late. We’ve been on a short trip. I love your stories and anecdotes. We get to know interesting life details. Some excellent music presented. I most definately need som John Mellencamp. I have NONE. (Shame) Take care. /R & A
Flashback - 1981, 14 yrs old. The previous year I had introduced some new friends to Toys and Live Bootleg. I had one friend who had A/C in his room and we were there on beanbag chairs. He had that first Aerosmith LP. It took until the 90s for me to realize that it was my favorite. Mellencamp - those are all good albums. I never had that first poppier Fool album but I remember “I Need A Lover” from earlier and of course all the videos. That was another friend who had cable, btw. Jackie O is my favorite song by JCM. NY loved Cougar too. His drummer is so good.
There are other amazing Aerosmith albums but this debut is so solid. It's hard to beat. ♥️ I love all eras of Mellencamp's music. He's the perfect combination of rock & roll and country blues. His voice actually gets better with age. 🤗 Thank you and take care.
Another great up, Melinda. In regards to Elton John? I bought the Honkey Cat three track single when I was 7 years old in 1973. I actually preferred Lady Samantha off that single. The other track 'It's Me That You Need', I don't even remember ever playing.
For those who also play CDs and Blu Rays, the CD/Blu Ray combo of Ziggy Stardust the motion picture is a great deal. This is the first time that concert has been on blu ray and the DVD is long out of print. Directed by DA Pennebaker who is also responsible for the Bob Dylan movie Don’t Look Back!
I ❤ John Mellencamp. I went to his concert in March. The box set looks amazing! I have the original albums on vinyl and CDs. Small Town was played at my high school graduation.
Great video topic. I have definitely fallen down the rabbit hole with 45’s. I really love finding the double sided A sides for the juke box. Love the filled out insert that was in the Kiss album. That is priceless. Happy spinning!
I enjoy looking through 45's as well. I have quite a few. 🤗♥️ I love seeing that old Kiss order form. It's crazy to think that little boy is probably a grandpa now. 😳 It was so sweet. I also would love to know how many people have owned that record and when he gave it away. I'll never know but I find it interesting. Thank you and take care.
Thanks Melina 🙂 Your videos tend to be expensive watches, as I always find something I need to get 🤨This was very inspiring. The Elton John album I need to get. For many reasons it's my favorite of his, and it's a classic around the house here. But overall I love the concept of the video, thanks so much.
Hello Melinda 🌞 - I love the 70's Aerosmith albums particularly the first two. They certainly weren't " Just another band out of Boston " Have a wonderful day ! 😊
OMG! I'm 2/3 of the way through this older video and you just picked out an album that floored me! I NEVER expected the VMP version of Honky Chateau to sound as good as it does being his re-releases have never sounded as good as the originals. That album I chose being a member of VMP and what was available that month seemed like it was time to take a chance on a AAA version of Elton John. Holy smokes! I have an early MCA and a very early UNI/DJM which sounds amazing. The VMP sounds better because nothing in sound quality is missing, but the vinyl is sooo much better.
@@MelindaMurphy I'd Trust VMP to do GYBR (another favorite, if not my absolute favorite) I'd buy it unheard after Honky Chateau but I'd really like Krieg Wunderlick (spelling?) to do a 1 Step of it. I have an early DJM (British) version that is so clean and clear on very quiet vinyl, but I'd invest in a 1 Step of it if they would do it in 33RPM. Thank you for replying. I've made suggestions to Mofi before and the last time I did they told me they were just about to announce the Van Halen's so they let me order them through Music Direct. I'm certain they would take any suggestions you had to offer....
I have the John Cougar Mellencamp box set on cd love him the first time I visited the U S Jack and Dian was in the charts every time I hear it it reminds me of driving down to long beach with my cousin and the song playing on the radio
It's amazing what you can find in old records. One of my second handers, The Jam - Sound Affects, was used as a writing board for a 'dear John' letter, i know this because of the print through of the pen pressure on the sleeve. It's pretty garbled where it has been written over a few times but it's obvious what's going on. I wonder if that letter was ever sent? As for visual condition you just can't tell. I've records with trenches in them so big you can see it from space but not sound do they make. My pet hatred is records made using pulp vinyl where the label hasn't been removed and a small part of it is stuck in the surface. I have found a tiny lump of metal embedded in vinyl. I guess the first press from a new stamper. One track was unplayable but the rest of the album sounded fantastic. Great video Melinda, all the best.
That old recycled vinyl is the worst. The paper labels caused a lot of problems. It would be interesting to know the date of that Dear John letter. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda! Oh my gosh, I love John Cougar Mellencamp's records too! The sound quality of the originals are stellar. He's such a great artist. Love your anecdotes about small towns too. I cannot imagine you soaping people's windows! I like Count Basie as well, and I'm pretty sure I used to have that Pablo LP of his. "Honky Chateau" is a fantastic record. I love Elton John's music up to "Captain Fantastic." I couldn't figure out why I was getting all these new subscribers today. I watched this video and it explains it all! lol ~ Nicola
I'm glad your subscriber is going up. Thanks again for the Kiss record. It's cool to finally have the sticker and the order form. That boy and I could have been good friends. Charlie's Angels was my favorite show too. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Another great video Melinda👍 Greetings from Orkney Scotland. If you enjoy Traffic, look out for a copy of Steve Winwood's first self titled solo album from 1977. You can pick copies up very cheaply and it really is a great album that is often overlooked. Much more of a laid back, funky vibe than his later solo albums.
I do like Steve Winwood's 70's music. I'm not as fond of his music from the 80's but I do have some good memories attached to it. Thank you for the suggestion. Take care.
I love John Barleycorn; I like you struggled to find a clean copy for years after having it as a child. I found it one day in a new arrivals bin at the local record shop I frequent. I picked it up for I think 5 dollars or less. I was on top of the world for a week after that. I also have my original copy of John Cougar Mellencamp's Scarecrow album. I remember buying that new in 85 or early 86 as a young kid. I think its one of my favorite records of his as well. Really appreciate your opinion on releases. You have saved me from disappointment on some releases and made me spend my money for others. ;-)
Volleyball! My favorite time was when I rotated to the front line, and waited for a low serve. If I got one, the other team was doomed.😁 As for the records, although I wasn't a big fan of John Mellencamp, I do like some of his songs. And I like the stories that accompanied the records you showed from the box set; the set itself looks good, too. The Basie LP is a great find; most everything that came from Fantasy Records (Pablo was one of their labels) sounded good. I actually get a kid-in-a-candy-store vibe watching you sometimes, and enjoy the heck out of that. Never lose that! Your enthusiasm for vinyl is a real lift for me. Thanks!
Thank you so much! Showing and discussing records is even better than being a kid in a candy store to me. 🤗♥️ I'm glad it shows. Fantasy records are always good quality. Their reputation is a little tainted for me because of how they treated John Fogerty but that's another story. Lol. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I didn't pick up that album. I bet it is good. I love this debut album. Aerosmith is one of the best American rock bands in history. ♥️🇺🇲 Thank you and take care.
Great video love seeing what you brought , I live in a small Town here in England called Chippenham in Wiltshire ,its also where Eddie Cochran died , the Memorial to him is a 5 minute walk from my flat.
Early picture disk’s where notorious for surface noise. When looking at used records take a small flashlight with you and then you will see any problems. Happy hunting!!
Saw John Mellencamp three times on the Scarecrow Tour : Evansville, South Bend & the tour finale in Bloomington. The Evansville show was one of the very best concerts of any artist I have ever attended.
I think my sister and brother in law went to that show. They said his concert was the best and they have been to a lot of shows. Thank you and take care.
I agree with you about Mellencamp, since I also grew up in Indiana. I didn't know about that box set, so I will look into buying that since I only have his albums on CD. Great video, as always!
Wow! A fellow Hoosier. 🤗♥️ I live in Kentucky now but I'm not far from my hometown in Indiana. Mellencamp's music was a huge part of my teenage years. He's still putting out music today. Thank you and take care.
Great episode. Truly love your depiction of John Cougar..........56 years old. Went from a big town to a small town,28 years ago.. ScareCrow then and now are still the way I live.......Appreciate your honesty. I've been to Indiana . 3 years to watch U.S Nations Drove from Toronto .....Great People. Awesome food.,and Hospitality. Was Just playing Aerosmith's first Album last night....You have to listen to Night at the Ruts from Aerosmith..Under Rated. Thanks for sharing your great taste in vinyl....Great Memories.Peace Dennis from Bolton Ontario Canada.......Long may you Run........
Thank you so much. Indiana is a great state. I love the stories John Mellencamp tells in his songs. ♥️ I have Night at the Ruts. I enjoy it too. Thank you and take care.
Small town cars and cruzin. Union hall through town to the the daisey mae and back. Saturday night. Saved Mellencamp's televised performance of Human Wheels. Mellencamp fan. Thanks.
Great video Melinda and great records! I love Bowie, Aerosmith and Kiss. I was a member of the Kiss Army in the 70's and early 80's. Great times! Hope all is well!
Another great video! I agree about the Ziggy Stardust live albums! Ah Kiss I bought kiss albums when I was 14 from a market stall very cheap as 1974 - 1976 they sank without trace here in the UK but Kiss Alive and Destroyer and Rock'n'roll over are still favourites!! At the time at school it was who the hell are this bunch of weirdos!! I new I was onto a winner 😅
Well Kiss had to wait for Lick it up! Before they finally got big here in the UK and even on their final fairwell dates the sarcasm hasn't stopped from critics here! From Paul's err vocal assistance and Gene staying on his feet and his what they call here his Syrup of figs!! They are in their 70s always a physical band I don't care I still love to see the Who Kiss and Alice Cooper! I'm 63 and with my health I couldn't do it!! So let them get on with what they do!! Critic's in the UK are a reason we have lost our way here!! Rock music seems to have become two dirty words here!! Phew rant over I'm ok now!! Take care
Cool, a fellow Hoosier! My Dad probably worked on the line that pressed that Aerosmith LP at the Terre Haute plant. Born and raised here in TH and after an extended stay in Colorado returned, been back since about 2012. And John Mellencamp was indeed huge here in Indiana in the early 80's. Great video, Melinda. 😎
Oh wow! It's so cool that your dad worked at the pressing plant. ♥️🤗 John Mellencamp was huge back in the 80's and still loved today especially in Indiana. Thanks for saying hello! Take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Yeah, both of my parents worked there, Mom mainly during the holiday rush in Sept/Oct, in the inspection dept for Masterworks (white glove type stuff, lol). Dad was there from about 1960 to 1983, then again in Carrollton, GA from 1984 to mid 90's. I actually worked as a calibration tech for Sony DADC from 2013 to 2018, in the old converted Columbia tape plant at the same complex on Fruitridge. Unfortunately, just like lack of LP sells were the reason for Dad's two layoffs, I was also laid off in early 2018 for the big decline in physical media sells. The CBS/Sony campus has seen a lot of media production since the 50's, hopefully another new media type will spring up from there?? Who knows. 😎
I was in a record cd store in Bar Harbor, Me a long time ago and looked up on the wall and seen a new box set 6 lps of Bowie's Sound and Vision. I couldn't get the money out of my pocket fast enough. The lp's had a green transparent hue. I still have the set and play it. One of my favorite Artists. i
Great video!! Sorry I didn’t answer your question in the box set video last week About the Black Sabbath paranoid album I got too busy with other things!! But the quad mix is 1974 quad album back to stereo!! But I saw yesterday on social media that in October 6th Van Halen is doing a box set of the Sammy Hagar years and thought of you first!! Hope your going to buy it!!
Terre Haute "High Ground" driven threw it many times, also so cool to see that old KISS Army application filled out, and you are correct he probably was about 13, I mailed mine off with $5 in 77 same age. Have a great week.
The poor boy never got to join the Kiss Army. 😳 It's sweet to see that piece of history. I hope he's doing well and still enjoys Kiss. Thank you and take care.
The Bowie Soundtrack sound quality is interesting. Reason being; the audio mix on the original version of the film as released in theatre's and shown on the midnight circuits was fairly weak. This problem was finally corrected during the 1990's at the time of one of the DVD releases of the film. This remix was celebrated by myself and the few friends I have that care about such things (finally we thought). To hear that the vinyl re-issue of the soundtrack suffers from a bad mix suggest that the great remix is separately licensed (at a much higher rate) or somehow the new re-issue was mastered from the original terrible mix of the soundtrack (Igor grabbed the wrong brain). I recently watched the DVD of the concert and it sounds amazing. Don't blame the sound quality on 1973 as there are plenty of live concerts from that time and decades before that sound great. Nice KISS gift.
Something I noticed after I made the video was that reviewers on Discogs said that this version sounds better than the original. Maybe this is the better version after all. It wasn't bad but compared to the other records, it was the weakest link. Thank you and take care.
“Scarecrow “ is a fantastic record. You did a very professional job holding that box set. Made me think of The Price is Right. I like that Feelin’ Willie shirt 😁. Funny one. Oooo I need to put that Elton John on my “need to buy” list. I was in the Kiss Army when I was 12 and 13. I sent away from Destroyer. Man, I wish I still had all my old newsletters. Now that brings back some memories. Had the certificate on my wall lol. A reissue I would recommend to you that is inexpensive and you might like, is Olivia Newton-John’s debut “If Not For You”. It’s country sounding on a lot of it but I think it sounds really good. Plus, I love ONJ. Another awesome video Melinda. Always an enjoyable watch. Have a fantastic week and don’t let summer slip by you😊 Gary
Thank you for the kind words. I was never an "official" member of the Kiss Army but my neighbor had the dolls so I would play with him and we would pretend we were putting on a concert. ♥️🤗 I like Olivia a lot too. Her early songs are probably my favorite. I also love her contributions to the Grease soundtrack. Thank you and take care.
I recently bought Boston Third Stage at my local record store. I'd been meaning to get this one for a while and it was a copy that looked flawless as far as the vinyl was concerned. I had spent about 4 hours up at the record store going through all kinds of albums and sampling them to see how they sounded before making a decision to buy any of the the variety of albums. I remembered that I had wanted to get a copy of Third Stage right after I had paid for about 10 albums I bought and just after I had called Uber to come pick me up to take me back home. So I quickly looked and found that flawless looking copy of Third Stage but never got a chance to put it on the turntable and sample it. Wouldn't you know it! It sounded like it had been drug down the freeway when I got it home. It mystifies me how sometimes an album can look so bad yet sound perfect or look so perfect and sound bad. As for Aerosmith, I've been buying these new releases of all of their early albums that have been getting released in 2023. They went from Columbia over to Capital Records and I've been blown away by how good these new remasters on their new label sound. I'm not really interested in Aerosmith after about 1979 or 1980 and I've only got one, or actually two because their album titled Live Bootleg is also getting released again, to go before I'll have all the ones I want. I never have been a Dude Looks Like A Lady era Aerosmith fan myself. But the capital records label they switched over to has really done an impeccable job and made some really quality 2023 productions that sound a lot better to me than earlier releases on Columbia. I like hearing your memories on the John Mellencamp LPs. I grew up in a small town but not too far from a big town which was Houston. Nowadays, it's all a big town down there. But there are certain artists that I cannot listen to without the same memories coming back and reminding me of some great times and people as I was a teenager in the 1980s. For some reason, a lot of the Survivor songs take me back to many events and friends as well as young love back in those days that I wish I could visit again 👍 One song specifically is called Summer Nights. There's an extended version of the song that didn't come out until the 1990s and why they never used that version as the one being released and played on the radio back in the 1980s is beyond me. It describes perfectly some of those youthful feelings and how they even feel today. Another great one that always takes me back to growing up in my hometown is Eddie Money and I Wanna Go Back. What an incredible song lyrically and in the feelings it can put into you and remind you of. Thank you for another enjoyable video Melinda! Oh yeah, and by the way, what does your T-shirt say underneath Feelin'? When I saw that it made the Boston song Feelin' Satisfied pop into my head but I'm pretty sure it's not going to say that haha. You got me curious now and I thought I'd ask 😁 Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
Hi Brian. My shirt says Feelin' Willie Good with a picture of Willie Nelson on it. 🤗 Certain songs do bring back memories. I'll have to check out that Survivor song. My sister's boyfriend (now husband) bought The Search Is Over for her back in high school. I love Eddie Money. His 70's hits mean so much to me. ♥️ I like his 80's hits too. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Haha I like what your shirt says :-) I would not have gotten that head on I'd ask so thank you for the reply and answer :-) Both Eddie and Survivor had some good music in the 1970s and '80s and they definitely could touch home with the lyrics and melodies and music too!
Im going to get that Bowie album. Thanks for the reminder. Im a completionists of Bowie. I have his whole studio catalog on Vinyl and CD. And I never saw Bowie live and I ❤❤❤ his music and style. Thanks😊
Hi, Melinda, I'm a David Bowie, Aerosmith, and John Mellencamp fan. As for John Mellencamp's record America Fool, I was nearing graduating from high school, as I'm 61 years old. My 19 birthday was in November 1981, as I graduated from high school in 1982. I was 19 when I graduated from high school. I never went to college. You and your husband Philip have a beautiful home! The decor in your home is gorgeous! I love the tiger painting above the fireplace. Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars. I really like it when Casey Kasem would close American Top 40 with that quote. Alan. P.S. I'm an Elton John fan.
I loved listening to The American Top 40 back in the day. I have some of the vinyl box sets of those shows. They are hard to find but very cool. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Thanks for your reply, Melinda. I just remembered, I have one year of American Top 40 on vinyl record, from the year 1987. By the way, if someday you get a chance to go to Pittsburgh to go to Attic Records and Jerry's Records, they 2 record stores have a nice jazz selection on vinyl record. I want to tell about that, as you're a jazz music fan. Alan
I have an early pressing of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road that sat here for decades, inherited from my mother's cousin (who got it when it was first released). Being on the MCA label I wasn't expecting the pressing quality to be all that great but it turned out to be quite good! (MCA black "rainbow" label, to be exact.) I gave it a good cleaning and it's an excellent player. Another good MoFi to find is the Miles Davis 'Tribute to Jack Johnson' LP. They managed to cut the 24-minute side without sacrificing sound quality, and it rocks! I've also had their 2-LP 45RPM 'Kind of Blue' and it is always a treat. I'm on my second copy, though, as the first one had the first record pressed off-center on side two. No bueno! Another good-sounding record if you can find it is China Crisis, 'Flaunt the Imperfection'. I found a promo copy in excellent condition and it has excellent engineering. (Not surprising, as Walter Becker produced it.) It's on Virgin in the UK but was distributed by Warner in the US, and my Warner copy is plenty good. And if you can find an early Reprise copy of Michael Franks' 'The Art of Tea,' you're in for a treat...
Thank you for the suggestion. 😃 I'm glad you got such an excellent pressing of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. What a fantastic record. ♥️ I have that MoFi and it is very good. Have a great weekend!
Hi Melinda, I was wondering, since this is Elvis Week in Memphis, have you managed to pick up the latest re-issue (newly re-mixed & re-mastered) from Sony Music called "Aloha From Hawaii" ?? Both released on CD & LP sets.
Oh no! 😳 My shirt says Feelin' Willie Good with Willie Nelson on it. I have no idea what that means in the UK but I certainly didn't mean what it must imply. Lol. Thank you and take care.
Speaking of records that don't look that great but play really well I have some like that and one that comes to mind is Steppenwolf Monster. I have a few copies because I'm always trying to upgrade the cover and the album. One of them has a lot of scuffs but when it is played there is hardly a crackle at all. I was actually shocked while listening to it! I like John Cougar and that box set looks pretty cool. You told some nice stories in this video. Great KISS album, just listened to that this week. That's a nice copy you got there. Take care!
Some records are expensive and some records are cheap with cheap affordable prices is a great buy from my experience im a jazz fan i love the 3 albums are count basie album classic Donald Byrd underaded jazz artist he made incredible music and miles davis sketches of Spain amazing album it was to get into at first because it was different jazz album different from kind of blue and other miles albums after a listen about 5 times i love it a lot more that album is like if you taking a trip to Spain with miles davis groundbreaking jazz album that never done before miles davis was ahead of its time i got that album on cd i got to get it next on vinyl as well another great video much love to you Melinda for your love of music and physical media as vinyl records have a blessed summer Tuesday take care
Dollar bin diary.....lol. my experience has been visual rarely represents audio. 95 percent of the time the records sound amazing despite how it looks. Vinyl vacuuming drastically helps with sound. For the most part, I've stopped buying online unless it's rare (something I know I'm not going to find in a shop) and cheap or unless its new and sealed. Great suggestions, Melinda!
I agree with you. I only buy rare records online. The Aerosmith had alluded me for some reason. I was stunned when I saw the condition and even more stunned when I heard how great it sounds. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
I got that John 'Cougar" Mellencamp boxed set when it first came out on LP back in 2016 from PopMarket when they still had great deals. I paid $72. for mine and they retailed for $99. Overall, they sounded OK, except for "The Lonesome Jubilee". I had an original promo LP copy, which sounded alot better. It was funny, but the masters were cut at RTI but the records were pressed by URP. It is a great boxed set and covers all the hits. Aerosmith was a group that seemed to take a long time to get off the ground. I was a Music Director at a radio station in the mid-70's and one day I was going through a pile of singles which were surplus and cast-offs. I found an original promo 45 of "Dream On". I hadn't heard of Aerosmith so I played it. I fell in love with it and put it in rotation. We may have been the first to play it in town. After Columbia changed it's numbering format, Aerosmith really caught on and became another supergroup. I have many of their promo 45's but never had any of their LP's until they were re-issued for Record Store Day in 2013 as numbered copies. PopMarket seemed to get many of the RSD releases for the CBS group. I figured at that time that they must have been under the Sony umbrella, acting as some sort of clearing house. They sold the RSD numbered editions for $15. each. Atleast one of the "Dream On" promo 45's I have are Santa Maria pressings, which are awesome. If I ever come across an original Sant Maria pressing of their first album, I'll probably snag it.
I've never owned an original copy of The Lonesome Jubilee but no doubt a promo would be awesome. ♥️🤗 I was able to get that box set for an excellent price as well. What a cool story about Dream On. Just think, you might have played a part in Aerosmith making it big. ♥️ I hope you find that Santa Maria pressing. Thank you and take care.
Not sure I would call "John Barleycorn Must Die" a reissue; it's a late pressing. Great LP. Now get "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" and "Dear Mr. Fantasy". I believe you have the 2nd self titled album.
Yes, this is a repress not a reissue. Thanks for the clarification. I will definitely look for the other Traffic albums in the future. Thank you and take care.
Hell yeah! I just listened Ziggy Stardust soundtrack last night. The previous vinyl release i think sounds better. I picked up the bluray and cd as well. Cheers
@@MelindaMurphy honestly ive heard worse live recordings. Just my opinion, but ive had this on cd, dvd, vinyl, and the new vinyl. Previous vinyl sounded clearer. But i am stoked for the bluray. Gonna wait a week and watch it. Cheers!!!
@@MelindaMurphy lol I obviously love this concert. Also the historical rock significance is heavy. Last show as the Spiders, the band didnt even know it was their last show
Was all set to buy the bowie album direct till i saw the price 57£ uk gave it a miss way too much, so I'll wait till it comes down on ebay, great review mind.
Haha! They are far from it. My collection is a mix of originals and reissues. As long as the record sounds good, it truly doesn't matter to me when it was pressed. Thank you and take care.
Thanks Melinda for another informative episode. I’m a jazz collector and I do have some Count Basie but the vinyl you presented certainly looks intriguing. However, I’m particularly interested in the Donald Byrd album, someone I’m very vaguely aware of. And your comparison to Miles Davis really grabbed my attention. I’ll heavily consider the “ Electric Byrd “ as my next vinyl acquisition. Thanks again !
I think if you listen to Electric Byrd, you will buy it. It's hard to find an original in great condition and this reissue is very good. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
I have a copy of Unmasked by Kiss that has the order form filled out in a similar manor. The person that did it also wrote their initials on the jacket and center label on both sides. Normally that wouldn't fly with my collection but like you I found it to be charming and part of the history of that copy. I always love your content you are the nicest lady!
I don't mind small names and initials on my records. Back then, that's what we did. It's cool to see the name of the person that used to own the record. 🤗 Thank you so much! 🤗♥️
@@MelindaMurphy A few years ago, before the All Things Must Pass album was remixed and reissued, I was looking for vinyl pressings on Apple, and I found one in great condition as well as for a really decent price. $15! There was just one problem. It had the previous owner's name in a green sharpie written EVERYWHERE - the cover and the labels. 😅 At the time, I hadn't remembered the album came with a hinged cover as opposed to one you'd lift up. That was all perfectly intact, the vinyl looks amazing and soulds.....but there's this girl;'s NAME everywhere. 😅 You have a good idea about coping with it - to think of it as part of the record's history. I do have the 50th anniversary box on LP as well as an I Tunes download, so who's complaining? Nobody forced me to get the other edition with the owner's name on it, but I just had to have that otherwise perfect looking and sounding original pressing.
Hi Melinda - great video as always. Following on from the cool Van Halen singles you showed, I just wanted to let you know, if you aren´t aware already, they are releasing Van Halen - The Collection I and II box sets on vinyl. Collection I is the first 6 studios albums (David Lee Roth era), out on Aug 25. Collection II is 4 remastered studio albums (Sammy Hagar era), 5150 (1986), OU812 (1988), For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991) and Balance (1995) plus a collection of rarities, so 5 LPs in total. Collection II is a must for me and I am tempted by Collection i even though I have the originals already. When you are a fan you can´t have too many copies !
I passed on the Vol 1 because I plan to get the Mobile Fidelity One Steps of the Roth albums. ♥️ I did preorder the Vol 2 and I'm so glad that those albums are finally getting reissues. I have my fair share of VH albums here so I agree with you. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
Love your videos, Melinda! Can you please consider making a video on labels such as WaxTime and DOL and similar, if you have any experience of them? The quality is actually often amazing and they are super cheap 😊
They are definitely a great value and they can sound very good. I wouldn't want to highlight them because they aren't truly legitimate pressings. They are what is considered the "gray market." The artists do not receive money from these releases as they are not official. I understand the desire to buy them and before I knew what they were, I bought a couple too. I try to stick with official pressings instead. Thank you and take care.
Another grest video. I have a Vinyl Me Please copy of Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy and it is so good. I also have a 1970s copy but the VMP sounds so much better. I'm now very tempted by their Honky Chateau release as I love Rocket Man and only have it on a compilation album. Your videos are so informative about what's out there and what the sq is like that I felt confident enough to buy a couple of MOFI releases, Making Movies and Thriller which both sound brilliant but they were expensive so I won't be making a habit of buying them, so it's good to hear about great sounding affordable records too.
Thank you for the kind words. I would never tell you how to spend your money but the Elton John VMP release is excellent. I'm glad you have discovered Mobile Fidelity records. It's my favorite label. Thank you and take care.
M. I was surprised the Aerosmith reissue wasn’t the og orange color You are right about scarecrow and that’s a good deal on that box. The album after LJ Big Daddy is a fav too. Pretty dark album. I got out my rk and roll over out recently and I have the same filled out survey and sticker. I did lose my paper love gun though 😢
Everyone played with their Kiss toy so I'm not surprised it disappeared. Big Daddy is an excellent album. No two Mellencamp albums are the same. I didn't know that the original Aerosmith album was orange. 🤔 Very cool. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I really like the subject of this week's video, Melinda. There really is so much great music that's really affordable and under the radar on vinyl, even though we've seen prices really go up in recent times because of investors and inflation. Of all the albums you showed, there was one that really grabbed me. That John Mellencamp box set is a very attractive collection of some of the very best rock made in the 1980's. 😻 I'm a big fan. Though American Fool has some of his best known songs, it was the Uh-Huh album that got a lot of play from me. Those '80's albums have a great punchy Stones influenced sound that really outdid the Stones! 🎸🎸🎸 I'd rather listen to a Mellencamp album than a Stones album any day of the week. With John you could always put on your dancing shoes and really enjoy his sound, but there is more to the music he has written. He really did paint a picture of America and truths about life that so many other artists didn't do. He was always striving to be authentic like when he dropped the "Cougar" name and used his real name later on. It's great to hear that they've released a really nice box set of some of his best music, and it can be purchased at a very nice price. I hope that the vinyl records in the set are all analogue. 🤔
Good evening! I agree with everything you said about Mellencamp. Like you, I love that he fought to have his real name. It was a smart move on his part. It would be ridiculous for him to still be called Johnny Cougar. Lol. Uh-Huh is a wonderful album. I love The Authority Song and Pink Houses. Crumbling Down is a huge favorite for me as well. All of the records are analog and mastered by Chris Bellman. They sound extremely good. The price is fair and sometimes you can find it on sale for an even lower price. Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the topic. I like the fancy box sets but deep down I'm still the girl that likes a good bargain. There truly is something for every price range. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
My post disappeared again. I've heard that YT deletes comments to "protect children". They may think you're a child. Oh, well, you're welcome and you take care as well. 👍💖🎸😎 @@MelindaMurphy
Half the joy of your videos is in the stories you tell. I would have loved to be on your B team...and breaking into song with you! Thank you so much.
It's a great memory. Thank you! 🤗♥️
Traffic - John Barleycorn - one of my first albums I ever purchased. Got me hooked on collecting.
What a great start! It's awesome! Thank you and take care.
Another great video Melinda. Made my Monday morning. Thanks so much.
Well, it's Tuesday so I think that gives me an idea of how your Monday went. 😀 In all seriousness, thank you for such kind words. It means so much that you enjoyed my video. Thank you for the encouragement. Have a great day!

Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it. 🤗♥️
Take Care.

It's a refreshing take on collecting thank you
The memories and emotions attached to music is such a gift. ♥️🤗 Thank you for your kind words. Take care.
Thank you! I would never want to have a pushy vibe. 😀 We should buy what speaks to us as individuals. Thank you and take care.

Thanks for letting us know about these affordable, great sounding pressings. I also loved the volleyball story

Hello Melinda! Sorry I’m late. We’ve been on a short trip. I love your stories and anecdotes. We get to know interesting life details. Some excellent music presented. I most definately need som John Mellencamp. I have NONE. (Shame) Take care. /R & A
I hope you had a wonderful trip. ♥️🤗 it's always nice to get away. Take care.
Very cool! I've never seen the single for it. 🤗 Thank you and take care.
I would love to see it. Thank you for the information. I can't believe that was 50 years ago and now he's gone. Thank you and take care.
I ❤ John Mellencamp. I went to his concert in March. The box set looks amazing! I have the original albums on vinyl and CDs. Small Town was played at my high school graduation.
It's so cool that you remember Small Town from your graduation. ♥️ Thank you! 😃
Buy the Bowie "Live in Santa Monica '73" for Mick Ronson shredding his Les Paul!
I'll look for it. Thank you! 🤗♥️
As a born and bred Hoosier Im proud to say I soaped windows! Many times listening to John Mellencamp. 😉
Lol. It's not my proudest moment but that's what we did. 😃 Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
I'm in the same boat when watching other vinyl videos. They inspire me to buy records. Lol. Thank you and take care.
Hello Melinda 🌞 - I love the 70's Aerosmith albums particularly the first two. They certainly weren't " Just another band out of Boston " Have a wonderful day ! 😊
Haha! Aerosmith is one very special band. I love them and was able to see them in concert with my daughter. Thank you and take care.
It's a wonderful sounding record. ♥️ Now of they would make a beautiful version of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. 🤗 Thank you and take care.
Miles Davis, Kind Of Blue, i have a OG mono copy, great record, melinda!!
Wow! That's incredible! ♥️🤗 It is an excellent record. Thank you and take care.
I have the John Cougar Mellencamp box set on cd love him the first time I visited the U S Jack and Dian was in the charts every time I hear it it reminds me of driving down to long beach with my cousin and the song playing on the radio
Music is all about memories. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
I have never heard of Donald Byrd. I will check that out.
Give the music a listen. It's definitely not a typical jazz album. 🤗♥️ It's different but very good. Thank you and take care.
Thanks for another great video! Here's hoping Doug from Pensacola gets in touch!
That would be so cool. I wish that would happen. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I’ve only been a casual fan of John Mellencamp, except for the album Uh-Huh, I really like that album, and I love Authority Song!
That's a wonderful record. ♥️ Thanks for mentioning it. Take care.
I love Elton John's music up to "Captain Fantastic."
I couldn't figure out why I was getting all these new subscribers today. I watched this video and it explains it all! lol ~ Nicola

You have saved me from disappointment on some releases and made me spend my money for others. ;-)
I'm thrilled to have a good copy of John Barleycorn. ♥️ Scarecrow is an excellent album to have. 😀 Thank you for the kind words. Take care.
Great video. Kiss records with all the stuff the put with the LPs are always fun to look at
The Kiss records always had something cool in them. I personally love the Dynasty poster and the love gun. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
Great video. Love me some early Aerosmith. Especially the earlier recordings that came out last year from Joe Perry’s reel to reel. Nice T-Shirt

Kiss fans here in the US were relentlessly teased around the Dynasty era. That's ok. We all loved Kiss anyway. ♥️ Thank you and take care.

Love that Kiss album and all the goodies that you got with it! That sticker looks amazing! Also a lot of other cool albums that you showed!
Thank you! I see that Kiss record all of the time but I never see the sticker. It's very cool. Have a great day!
The Ziggy 50th was a very sexy vinyl
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. ♥️🤗
Thanks for the video and the suggestion had to put up traffic right away. Greetings from Germany
Traffic was such a great band. This album is my favorite of theirs so far. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
The 50th anniversary edition of honky Château sounds great on black vinyl
That's good to know. ♥️ Thank you! ♥️🤗
Have a fantastic week and don’t let summer slip by you😊
Gary
Thank you for the kind words. I was never an "official" member of the Kiss Army but my neighbor had the dolls so I would play with him and we would pretend we were putting on a concert. ♥️🤗
I like Olivia a lot too. Her early songs are probably my favorite. I also love her contributions to the Grease soundtrack. Thank you and take care.
Oh, and I'm sitting outside as I write this. I plan on soaking up the warm weather for as long as I can. 🌞
You got me curious now and I thought I'd ask 😁
Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
Hi Brian. My shirt says Feelin' Willie Good with a picture of Willie Nelson on it. 🤗
Certain songs do bring back memories.
Like you, I’m ready for that middle era Mellencamp catalog to get the vinyl treatment. We’ve waited long enough! 😂
I fear we may be waiting for a long time. I sure hope not. Thank you!
Im going to get that Bowie album. Thanks for the reminder. Im a completionists of Bowie. I have his whole studio catalog on Vinyl and CD. And I never saw Bowie live and I ❤❤❤ his music and style. Thanks😊
When it comes to Bowie, there are a lot of albums for completists. 🤗 Take care.
Alan
American Fool has some awesome deep cuts like Danger List and China Girl, in fact Danger List is my favorite song from that album.
I agree. That's a very strong album. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
I didn't know you were from Indiana. South bend area here!! Love your videos ❤❤
Yes, I was born and raised in Indiana. ♥️ Thank you very much!
another Great Video and it wasn't a reissue video it was Fresh and educational and Fun
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for the kind words. ♥️🤗
Honky Chateau sounds amazing
I agree! 🤗♥️ Thank you!
I didn't. I have an early pressing of it. I do like it though. ♥️
Hey Melinda, You might want to think twice about that shirt you are wearing, `Feelin` Willie` means something a lot different here in the UK. LOL.
Take care!
Thank you very much! For some reason, those Steppe Wolf album covers always look rough. Take care. 🤗♥️
I am happy to have discovered the Count Basie album. ♥️🤗 It's been a great summer. Thank you so much.
I have the awesome reissues and it sounds amazing
Cheers
This one sounds ok for a live album. It's definitely nothing to write home about. Lol. Thank you and take care.
Hopefully the price will come down a little. Thank you and best wishes. 🤗♥️
Thank you for pointing out reissues are not the worst thing ever.
Wow that is such a nice story about the John Mellencamp song, jack and Diane, really fun to hear ❤
Can go through different style of music , Pop , classic , jazz , etc. Explain deeper about artist . Would be nice to know all of these artist 😊
Thank you for the suggestions. ♥️🤗 Take care.
M. I was surprised the Aerosmith reissue wasn’t the og orange color
You are right about scarecrow and that’s a good deal on that box.
that Donald Byrd album looks great! not traditional but fantastic
I agree. It's not classic jazz but it's a great album.
