I couldn't really say what the value of any of my albums would be (other than the price I paid for them). That's not the reason on why I purchase records.
@@MelindaMurphygreat videos Melinda I enjoy watching them , I like trying to buy records at far less than market value not only is it great to listen to them as I always do but if they can double up as long term investment we’ll all the better 👍
@@MelindaMurphy Hi Melinda, in my experience the people who "don't care" about the dollar value of things are ones who have never had to worry about whether or not they could afford it. For those of us who grew up in poverty, we can't help but assign importance to the dollar value of the things we own, because they would have been just that much more precious to us when it was all we could afford. I really appreciate the fact that you respect the dollar value of your collectibles, and many more of your viewers do too =)
I had a Gold CD once by the Cure that I wish I still had. It was an obscure song I remember. It’s fun to find these things! Isn’t it? It’s part of the hunt! 😮
I agree. Digging and finding those kinds of gems are the best part of record shopping. ♥️ I love the whole process of this wonderful hobby. 😀 Thank you and take care.
Recent purchase, I got a copy of Belafonte at Carnegie Hall for 0.95, and it's worth about 25.00 to 30.00, so not a big deal. My Kiss debut has blue label and no Kissin' Time, but I bought it in 1974. One other old purchase, I picked up an import copy of Saucerful of Secrets at a going out of business sale for about $4.00, and it's worth now about $550.00.
That Belafonte album is a classic. ♥️ It's so cool that you knew about Kiss from the beginning and picked up their album so early on. ♥️🤗 Nice Pink Floyd album. Wow!!! Thank you and have a wonderful week.
Very enjoyable video Melinda. Liked the info about Taylor Swift albums, I didnt know that. I bought a classic records version of Genesis - Selling England by the Pound in a standard record shop years ago when everyone was buying CDs. It was a few pounds more expensive than the regular copy they had. I asked the assistant why it was priced more but he was unsure. Anyway I took it as it was an album I really liked and when I got it home it sounded fantastic. Years later, with the vinyl revival, I came across a youtube video saying this was a much sought after version. You get that moment when you think, maybe the record they are talking about is the one I have in my collection. Still have it now as my only Classic records album, wish I had come across some of the Led Zep Classic records.
Awesome video Melinda! I had Kiss's first album and Ozzy/Randy Rhoads Tribute too. Unfortunately I lost them both is a house flood in my old home. But so glad to see you have them. I have them on CD now. Happyn Thanksgiving to you and family. Best wishes always! 😃♥🤘
Great video and such an interesting topic. Thanks for sharing your experience with these albums. Love "Moondance" and the artwork for the "Casino Royale" is lovely. Glad to hear that person got his money back for the "box set"! Thanks for the heads-up on that.
It is so great that you share your experiences, both good and bad. A couple of years back, I actually benefitted from someone breaking up a box set. I bought (on Discogs) what I thought was a complete set of The Beatles 'From Liverpool' 1980 box set. But, when I got it, I found that it contained 2 copies of record #1 and no record #2 (albeit the second copy of #1 was in the correct sleeve for #2). The other discs were present and correct. So, I contacted the seller who apologised and offered me either to return the set for a full refund, or keep it as-is for a 50% refund. Of course, I chose the latter, and was able to source a replacement Record #2 from a different Discogs seller who had records from a broken down box set. So, that worked out well for me! Melinda, have you git your Mo Fi release of Greetings from Asbury Park yet? I'm sure everyone would love to know what you think. I am still getting used to it - to my ears, it sounds good, but quite different from the original.
Oh wow! I'm so glad you mentioned the benefit of breaking up a box set. I hadn't thought of that. Good for you! 😀 Greetings From Asbury Park is wonderful. It's such an improvement over the original in my opinion. I am featuring it in a future video. Thank you and take care.
Love the wisdom, experience, and inspiration you share in this video. I wondered about those box sets, thank you! Btw, love that Revolver hoodie, very dapper!
Here's a weird one about breaking up boxsets involving CDs. Quite a few sellers were breaking up their Beatles US Albums boxes when new to sell the individual albums. At least here in the US the individual albums were sold with an obi strip. I decided as a birthday treat earlier this year to find a complete set of those. I quickly learned while searching Discogs that many if not the majority of the listings said OBI not included. Some with an OBI cost astronomically more. Hey Jude was the worst offender. In any case I found a seller who had a complete set on eBay that would be much cheaper. I also found an "empty" US Albums box with all the innards for US $20.00.
@@MelindaMurphy normally they do this because they have to sell and none buys it so as individual LP´s they sell them, i´m saying this because a friend had a cd store in the 90´s, the beatles mono and stereo box was a thing that i asked my self if someone would buy it ,i ended up buying both for 50€ from a friend
Glad that you are happy with your scores. You know how to use a phone? Not in your city, use the phone. Stores have an overhead. I can see that you are proud of yourself.
From my point of view from over the pond (UK) it's so much easier to find a sought after record in the US (although I appreciate each state will differ). Huge amounts of vinyl pressed, compared to say my part of the world. A vast range of styles on many majors, indie and private press labels. Lack of space in the UK means people dump things and huge amounts of records have ended up in landfill over the decades. I'll also add that even major labels in the UK did relatively small runs for lps that we all fiend for (think of the stuff on Vertigo or Island). So I guess what I'm saying is finding a cheap but valuable record in the US = easy. Finding one in the UK = hard 😊. Regards Nigel
Yeah, but when you do find one, it's often very, very valuable, like the early parlophone pink floyd record, same for early Beatles, or Rolling Stone. The first pressing of certains records worth à fortune.
@@MarvinHartmann452 I can't deny that can happen, although it's still a rare occurrence. So many people are trawling carboots and charities that the chance of finding things is slim. And record shops are clued up due to the net so it's virtually impossible to find something rare for cheap. I've had my moments over the last 30 years but those moments rarely occur now.
back.in 08.09 hawes market hall.local folks had dumped records in there charity section with books and mags. saw several good ones for a like 2 pounds each had a bunch for parking pints but no way could today sure cure smiths furs few beatles stones who folk music one mate bought some many cottages were under renovation younger folks after school.would leave the dales so would just give the market hall records books mags of course were not worth alot then i couldnt bring any back to virginia otherwise would have as said sure no way know yes we still.love the wemsleydale haha only here at xmas
Nice finds especially the Classic Records pressings. I’m a big KISS fan and haven’t come across a “blue label” with no “Kissin Time” yet in good condition. I do have an Alive blue label.
Oh cool! I love that you're a Kiss fan. 😃 Every time I see a copy of this Kiss record, I check to see if it has Kissin' Time on it. Lol. I hope you find a copy. Thank you and take care.
Casino Royale is one of the whackiest movies to come out of the 60s. It has a classic swinging 60s soundtrack. Such a fun film and one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. I did rebuy that one as the soundtrack is pure joy
Classic Records indeed made good LPs; I've mentioned before how great their reissue of "Time Out" is. And from what I understand, many of the people from Classic Records are at the core of Analogue Productions. As for the Ozzy Osbourne box set, all I can say is you, Melinda, are a true collector. Props for working so hard for something you really wanted. As for your auction experience, it sounds like FOMO was involved a bit, and that caused you to jump ahead without double-checking things. I've had similar experiences, though not so much with vinyl. But point taken: consider carefully before jumping in on anything (not just LPs), especially if it costs a lot.
I agree. I messed up on that auction. The record played terribly. Big mistake on my part. Classic Records were great and I think Analogue Productions is even better. 🤗 AP did buy a lot of the metal work from Classic Records. Thank you and take care.
Good videos, I've had a great piece of good luck My first Grail purchase was for a delux 50th Anniversary of All Things Must Pass, won it on auction for £80 which I was really happy about, received it, opened it and it was the super delux version of 8 vinyls
The biggest shock for me with respect to my collection was to find that my 90s copy of Matchbox 20 "Yourself or Someone Like You" was going for 300.00 on discogs. Even considering its rarity due to the time of its release in 1997, I couldn't imagine paying that kind of money for this record.
Vinyl collectors are crazy. Lol. Some people are willing to pay the big bucks for rare records such as that one. 😃 Thank you and have a wonderful week.
I just saw your video on the same Label on the 2nd Record of No More Tears. I hope you KEPT it because being it's incorrect, it's worth even more! I checked mine which is #1500 and I had No Issues with m Boxset. Like your channel! Dave
Hi Melinda, I bought David Bowie Black Star on clear Vinyl when it was first released for $50 Australian dollars thinking nothing of it, it sells on Discogs for $709 high $460 median AUD. Another Album I bought for Around $50 AUD was Chris Cornell Songbook on Discogs it’s now $872 high $516 median AUD and I don’t really like it 🤷🏻♂️
You have to watch out for modern color variants. For example, the red Urban Outfitters version of Lana Del Rey - Honeymoon. One to look for that no one would guess has value is Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Once More With Feeling on blue wax. Always check the soundtracks.
The KISS kissing contest brings back memories. The KISS DVD, live at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey city have the winners of kissing contest and KISS on the Mike Douglas Show as 'bonus material'.
Hi Melinda 😊 - Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 ! I recommend the book " & Party Everyday ..The Story Of Casablanca Records " It's an awesome look at Kiss & the 70's record industry.
Hi Melinda. Black Friday . I’ve just returned from the Indy Record Store I use. I’ve purchased four albums. Two Miles Davis albums on the Prestige Label, one is “Steamin’ with the Miles Davis Quintet, the other is The New Miles Davis Quintet. I’ve also purchased Bill Evans ‘Tales’ live in Copenhagen (1964). This album also has a very good illustrated booklet with it. Great liner notes. My final purchase is the Chet Baker Trio “Chet’s Choice”. This album is shown as a special gatefold edition,is a double album recorded and released in the Netherlands. They weren’t that cheap all together, approx 157 US Dollars. What the heck it’s only money, I can’t take it with me lol. I like baked beans on toast too so I won’t starve for a month lol. Just thought I’d tell of my Black Friday purchases today. Take care Melinda. Regards Dave
You made some excellent selections. The video I posted last week featured the Bill Evans and Chet Baker records. I gave them very high marks. They are wonderful. ♥️ The booklet is very nice in the Tales album. I hope you enjoy all of your finds. You did good! ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
Melinda, on the subject of Taylor Swift; I would advise ANYONE looking to buy any of her albums in vinyl to CAVEAT EMPTOR, big time. Many of those who have purchased the albums have reported skipping issues, although that could very well hinge on much of her Swiftie audience playing them on the portable suitcase Crosley and Victoria Record players. This also does not forecast well for Taylor’s albums in the used market, which could have their playing surfaces ruined by the aforementioned players. This is why many of the Rock and R&B albums of the 50s and 60s are very, very tough to locate in nice condition. Taylor very well May follow that same path.
That's an excellent point. Many of her records are being played on inferior turntables. Some of those records will suffer groove damage. 😳 Thank you and take care.
I have 3 of the original Kiss albums. A VG that I got years ago at a flea market, a VG+ and a. near mint. On all the other copies with Kissin' Time, it's the only bad song on the album.
Today, I just received in the mail: McCoy Tyner, Great Moments with. 2-LP and I haven't listened to it yet, but, I bought it because even though it is a re-issue Leonard Feather produced this album, and he is a VERY legit producer, and his daughter is Lorraine Feather, whom I have her first CD. She can really sing, and songwrite. Do you have this LP.?
I bought Demi Lovato first record Don’t Forget on splattered vinyl from UO for 18.00 dollars it worth over 300.00 now.and their isn’t any for sale in the USA on Discogs.
Hi, regarding albums worth checking out, I don't know if you're into blues, I encourage checking out the very first Hot Tuna Album (with the magenta silhouette of Jorma on an indigo background) is IMO amazing music- him and Jack Casady, the bassist from J. Airplane, with Will Scarlett on Harmonica- a reasonably clean copy isn't the easiest to find, but if you get an old orange label (earlier pressings) - or even (though less so) a later pressing - the dynamics and sense of presence are amazing; and I've never heard another blues album exactly like it. Deft playing/jamming between all of them, but a clean ensemble sound, and Jorma has an unusual voice, almost a bass/tenor purring. At least worth sampling by streaming it.
Hi Melinda, you got my curiosity up on my Kiss LP and I went and looked at it to see if I had a gem and it turns out that my copy says it’s a promotional copy not for sale. Lol 1974 Casablanca white label produced by Kenny Kerner and Richie Wise NB 9001. Is this a common pressing? I can’t remember where I got it from but I do remember it was back when they first released that LP. Thank you! Oh, and by the way, the cover is in a mint condition with no corner holes punched or corner cuts like they normally do on promotion copies.
Back in the early 80's I bought a copy of Misfits-Walk Among Us for five bucks. Starting price for this version on Discogs is now $400; I'm still not going to sell my copy!
I paid $1 for the Kinky Boots 2Lp ST at a Yard Sale … I wish one of my Record Shops would break up the Randy Newman box set, and sell me their copy of Bad Love
So you're buying records for their value? The value is only the value to someone who wants it. I've rare LPs. They are priceless. I really don't understand why you buy vinyl.
If you watch my video closely, you will hear me say that I was seeking those records out and lucked into finding valuable versions of them. The key is that I was wanting the record for the music - not that I was searching for the value.
It’s funny you mentioned the Kiss record because I just bought it a few weeks ago , even though I have a lot of KISS records that first one had always eluded me, so when I saw one at the record shop for $20 I snagged it, even though I thought $20 was kinda sharp I snagged it anyways to complete my collection, i didn’t even think about Kissin time, until I also secured a copy of “The Originals” and then I was trying to remember was Kissin time added or deleted from the original version, once i figured that out I realized I purchased the rare original version for $20 it’s not perfect the cover has some wear and the spine is rouged up (no splits or water damage) but the record itself is in very good condition and plays great
My best finds have been a original in the court of king crimson , a original ( white print) electric ladyland by Jimi Hendrix and a original oasis definitely maybe 👍
If someone is selling single records from a boxed set then I would have nothing to do with them and I would go to someone who will sell the whole boxed set.
It's very expensive but in my opinion it's well worth it. You will never regret picking it up. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
I buy my outer sleeves from Vinyl Storage Solutions. I buy the 3 mil thick outer sleeves with dual pockets and dual flaps. They are on sale for 30 percent off - the biggest sale I have seen from them. Thank you and take care.
Love finding their "oops!" mistakes! Many flippers here on youtube have no idea what records are worth - they overlook the good ones and jump on the common crap!
I have a original version of Taylor Swift Speak Now and a original version of Red. Not the Black Friday versions. Plus I think 🤔 I have some other Taylor original pressings. I never looked up how much they’re worth. Maybe I should. Not that I plan on selling them. I just bought the Taylor Version of Red. Which is very nice and it’s 4LPs and it’s a 45rpm release so it sounds really good. But, I can’t say I’m the biggest Taylor Swift fan…although I really like her. I do know I have some very rare special releases from Lana Del Rey that people are willing to pay 💰 me a thousand dollars 💵 for. 😮😮
The Taylor Swift records that are worth the most are the colored vinyl versions from RSD. The black vinyl versions are good but not as valuable to collectors. Be sure and check though. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy I’m lucky I bought RSD Folklore The Long Pond Sessions. Because, I’ve had people offer me crazy amounts of money 💰 for this album. I’m not going to sell it anytime soon. It might be the most expensive RDS Taylor album.
I just wanted to tell you about the Andrea Bocelli his Christmas vinyl album 💿 I highly recommended it’s a two vinyl album 💿 set I’ve heard of last year I had to get a copy of his album 💿 it’s fantastic that’s only my opinion let’s see what you think 👍
I'll have to check it out. I am listening to Christmas music as I am typing this. 😀♥️ Thank you for the suggestion. How could it not be beautiful? 🤗 Take care.
Very nice Willie Nelson. That one is on my list. He has a few albums that have become impossible to find selling for well over $100. Luckily VMP has pressed a couple of them recently. The early Dolly albums are the same...they're so hard to find. So glad I bought the Ozzy box. It's funny, it was available for a long time, and I kept telling everyone to grab them while they can. A few are still complaining they waited too long. I have found a couple of the Ozzy albums from the box in the wild, bought them for cheap, and made good money selling them.
I had no idea that Willie Nelson records are valuable. I'm saddened to think of the ones I didn't pick up when I had the chance. Same with Dolly. The Ozzy box set is one of the best put together sets of all time in my opinion. I hate seeing box sets getting broken up but I also understand that some people just want one or two records instead and will pay up for them. The price of the complete box is insane now. Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving!
Had no idea that Willie album went for BIG bucks! Now will keep an eye out. 🙂 The Ozzy box is a personal fave. I know MrHoffame regrets missing out on it (had to mention it - haha). Enjoy the holiday weekend coming up! ✌
I had no idea any Willie Nelson record was valuable besides Shotgun Willie but this is a great record. ♥️🤗 I hope Brandon is able to pick up that Ozzy box set someday. I hope you're having a great holiday weekend as well. Take care.
I'm amazed more and more each time at your wonderful collection Melinda! Keep going😅❤ I'm still debating if I should get the doors latest boxset at the Matrix...121$ now instead of 152$ in Canada... Take care !
You will probably need to look it up. It's too lengthy to explain here. It is a business that sells vinyl as well as a database so that you can keep your record collection files on your phone. Thank you and take care.
Great stuff M! Never knew that Van Morrison had a Super Disc pressing!! Love those and the Half-Speed Remasters! I'm still looking to trade someone for a Ozzy Box Set lol.
LP values are nearly at peaks. With time the prices will fall. LP play back today is a fad and fad collectables tend to bottom out after the trend passes. Older folks still play LPs and have large collections they are retiring. Younger folks are in it more as a fad. This equals future trouble for those who think records are investments. Ifs its valuable and you don't like the music sell it.
LP play back is not a fad. Vinyl is here to stay and it’s share of the market grows every year. Older folks are not retiring their vinyl collections at all. We add to them every month. Some vinyl records are worth quite a bit and their value will continue to grow.
I've got that Willie Nelson Good Times record I paid £3.00 for it and after posting it on a vinyl "now playing" Facebook group I was shocked when someone commented that It was rare and worth £100 + The used record store I bought it from just lumped it in with the rest of the country albums that they price at £3.00 as they think (and are usually right) they don't have much value. I do collect Willie's albums and always grab any I don't have and this was by far my best ever purchase when it comes to value.I don't think this had been released on any format since release in 1968 until a CD version appeared in Europe this year which explains it surprise value.
I don't have anything too crazy but I bought a LP and 45 duo, both colored vinyl of a new artist from Daptone records named Jalen Ngonda( best soul music you'll hear). The record just came out maybe 4 months ago and I was looking at my Discogs recently and found out that; that 45 is being sold for anywhere between 60 and 120 dollars 🤯. Blew my mind because I only paid 32 bucks plus shipping for both when it was on pre-order
There are a couple of tv shows that come from the UK i like" Bargain Hunt " and " Antiques Road Show ". What i find fascinating is what some things are worth or not. Even " American Pickers " you notice the same thing. All the best to you both. .
What a cool REVOLVER hoodie that is - Seeing "The Who-Sell Out" brought memories finding it as a cut-out Stereo copy for $2 - you remember the cut-out bins at K-Mart, Sears, Woolworths - Those were the days - Want to wish you and your family Happy Thanksgiving Day! ❤See you next week!
Nice finds! I got the first Queens of the stone age album on Man's Ruin label on yellow vinyl when it first came out which is now very expensive apparently. The same with the first 3 Danzig albums, I did find a few years ago a very 1st press of Fairport Convention 'Unhalfbricking' for 20p & 1st press Led Zeppelin Physical Graffitti for 50p in the charity shop in the UK which were great finds.
As always a great video Melinda. I've never had the luck you have had in stores. But I've only been shopping around for about 5 years. Happy Thanksgiving.
Bit of a fan of this album, did have the Revolver T shirt.Songs like She said she said and Tomorrow Never knows are the greatest Beatles songs.Liam Gallagher from Oasis and John Squire of Stone Roses are reportedly saying their proposed album will match that one.Great album design,as iconic as the Sex Pistols NMTB.
Great video Melinda i love 007 James bond movies with a passion and i love burt Bacharach score music i got to buy that classic soundtrack and so many others from burt Bacharach stuff as well I love the goldfinger movie and music score much props to shirley bassey for singing the goldfinger song i got 2 albums of shirley bassey on vinyl. Last but not least Taylor swift i love her music from 2014 all the way till now in 2023 1989, reputation and so many others im not much on her country music stuff from 2006 to 2012 its ok i really love her pop mainstream music billboard stuff is very exciting and the music felt with energy this is from a Taylor swift fan. I definitely love this video Great vinyl pickups Melinda Murphy keep making great videos and happy Thanksgiving and happy black Friday take care and have a blessed Tuesday
That was a huge amount of fun, thank you. My find was a yard sale, also known as a garage sale, find in the nineties. Glenn Gould's second recording for Columbia Records. I think it got thrown in for a vase I bought. The vinyl is in great shape, I have the whole thing framed. Sorry Rush, maybe you make the wall next time. .... kidding, I have a classic poster of the band circa Moving Pictures hanging out in the kitchen. Best to all the music souls out there. P.S., my youngest older sister has spilled the beans, I'm getting Geddy Lee's bio " My effin' Life " as a Christmas gift, sisters aint bad after all.🎶
My one & only claim to finding an expensive album in the wild - - was when i came across Eric Clapton Live at Royal Albert Hall / 3 LP set with a DVD in tri fold out. I was at an outdoor flea market where lots of various venders selling all kinds of things, well I came across a guy with 2 tables set up & boxes of vinyl for sale. When I came across this Clapton 3 LP set - I will be honest I did not know of it or had seen it before & I'm a Clapton fan. There were no prices, the cover was in mint condition along with the vinyl - if it was ever played - it may have been played once. I asked the guy how much for the Clapton & he said - um that's 2 albums - how about $30?? So, he wasn't even aware this was a 3-album set along with a DVD. I didn't hesitate & handed over $30 cash & walked away. As my wife continued to browse the flea market - I took the album back to my car & logged into my discogs app to see if I got a good deal. Well lets just say the median price was $150 & I was holding a mint condition copy. I was thrilled !! I will never sell it because the music sounds fantastic, but it was a great feeling that I finally found my grail in the wild. 🙂
On a record fair last month I was able to score a still sealed Beatles' Help! UK pressing from 1995 for a lower price than the lowest on Discogs'. I know it's far from being the most collectable pressing of it, but still one of my most remarkable finds. Also, the soviet pressing of A Hard Days Night that I found on a record fair many years ago now costs much more than I paid for it at the time. The only LP boxset that I have is a Beatles UK stereo box, which is incomplete, as the seller had already told me from the begining so the price was much lower than it tends to be over here (still high, though). All other boxsets I have are of 7" singles and most of them I purchased new. Luckly, the used ones I bought were all complete.
A sealed Beatles record sounds like a very nice collectible to me. It's been sealed for a very long time. The UK stereo box is a great one to have. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
That Ozzy box set is a huge disappointment. All that effort put into it, and then he has the nerve to leave Speak Of The Devil out of it? Sorry, but that's an epic fail. Ranks right up there with Iron Maiden not putting out Maiden Japan with all the reissues they are doing.
Metal records, original ones like king diamond and merciful faith are very valuable (and rare) If you like led Zeppelin and you find a Canadian all red label of 1, II, III, I suggest you give them a try. It is said they sound better than the regular éditions. Very interesting as always. Thanks for sharing. Edit: I'm very jealous of your Ozzy boxed set, it's magnificent 👌
Thank you for the suggestions. I would love to find incredible sounding Led Zeppelin records. I worked hard at that garage sale so that I could buy that box set. Lol. It was worth it. 😀 Thank you and take care.
I have the Bear Family Boxset with 8 CDs of the Willie Nelson Rca area. For a while I buy vinyl now and then and thought it would be nice to have some Willie Rca vinyl in my collection. So I looked them up online 😱. So expensive!!
He did not blow up as a recording act until kiss alive, that is correct, but “Dressed to kill” from 1975 did make the top 40. I always love that album cover with the band all wearing suits.
I love that cover too. It's so iconic. I remember seeing that picture as a kid and being a little scared and curious about them. 😀 Thank you and take care.
Sometimes on ebay (or even lately on discogs) I see box sets at low/affordable prices (such as for valuable Grateful Dead box sets, as I'm a deadhead), and then reading more carefully, see that the price - which may be up to a couple hundred dollars- is just for the actual box (albeit usually a beautifully designed box) that held the lps, cds, and other items themselves- so people need to read carefully!
Hi Melinda, excellent informative video. I had experience of this with a Velvet Underground box set. Fortunately I had the missing records and I did not pay too much. It is also common to split toofas. By chance I brought a Procol Harum toofa in separate pieces. Take care - Steve
I actually save my hype stickers by attaching them to blank 3x5 cards. I cut the shrink off right up next to the edge of the sticker and used double-sided tape to attach it. I place them against the back cover inside the clear outer sleeve. Easy way to keep them without damaging your covers.
I have learned over the years to buy the music I like and not be influenced by outside noise. This way my collection (1300 items) is what I actually want to listen to. This really is the whole point of it for me.
That makes a lot of sense. The records in this video were ones I was seeking out but lucked into finding copies that are a little more valuable. Usually it's because of the sound quality which is always a good thing. 🤗♥️ I recently let some records go that I knew I wouldn't listen to and it feels very freeing. The way you collect is definitely the way to go. Thank you and take care.
It's nice to have records that have increased in value. However it is much more fun to listen to them. The only one that I have that may be valuable is Elvis Greatest hits from 1958 that is still sealed. I bought a used one just to hear the sound.
I always enjoy your videos! I think excitement gets the best of us when we see something we’ve been wanting at a decent price. I also think some sellers know that and are possibly being deceptive. Classic Records are usually amazing sounding and worth the price. Even at $50 that Casino Royale reissue record is a bargain!
Over forty years ago I purchased a first stereo pressing of the Casino Royale soundtrack on Colgems for what I thought at the time was a staggering amount, twenty dollars. But I loved the music so much, and the album was long out of print (this was before CDs existed). I later found out that this stereo pressing, not the mono version, was considered by many collectors to be one of the greatest ever vinyl pressings, with sonics that were outstanding, and it became more and more sought after as the price for a copy skyrocketed. While I very much like the sound of it I never thought it was the greatest sounding album in my vast collection. Additionally, there was a moment (in one of the brassier restatements of the title theme) when the sound very noticeably distorts. This distortion is duplicated on the CD version, which came out years later. I’ve never heard the Classic Records pressing, but I recently purchased a double LP limited edition pressing on colored vinyl that contains many rare tracks on the bonus LP, unfortunately not all in optimal sound quality, where this distortion was finally corrected/removed. Thanks Melinda for posting this video. Cheers!
always interesting to hear from a collector's point of view. It does clearly illustrate that value is, and can only ever be, subjective. A fact that is easily overlooked when most of our everyday market transactions. such as goods from a store, are done with already agreed upon prices
For a lot of us, vinyl is considered a collectible. It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If other goods became scarce, they would be more expensive too. I hope it never comes to that. Lol. Thank you and take care.
Love the topic and your message. I always enjoy your presentation. Years ago I had bought Rush's Archive's album and I loved it but my old original turntable from when I was a kid damaged the grooves so when I started collecting I wanted to get my hands on a sealed copy and when I opened it it took me months to realize it had two copies of Fly By Night in it and one of the other three was missing. I doubt this happened at the factory, I think it was probably a re-sealed album sold as new.
I couldn't really say what the value of any of my albums would be (other than the price I paid for them). That's not the reason on why I purchase records.
totally agree
I find the value of records interesting but I also buy records to play and enjoy. Thank you and take care.
Wow! Very cool story! I would love to come across some Classic records label Led Zeppelin records as well. 🔥😍 Thank you and take care.

I'm so sorry that you lost cherished items on a flood. Thank you for the kind words. Take care.

@@MelindaMurphy Thank you! 😃♥
yup $5 :)
Exactly! That's why this one was so shocking. 😳 Thank you and take care.
Hi I don't really like spending a fortune on lps, I just buy them to listen too ,not collect.
Exactly! Thank you and take care.
Great video and such an interesting topic. Thanks for sharing your experience with these albums. Love "Moondance" and the artwork for the "Casino Royale" is lovely. Glad to hear that person got his money back for the "box set"! Thanks for the heads-up on that.
I'm glad the seller was a cool guy. 🤗 The cover of Casino Royale is very cool. Thank you and take care.
Greetings From Asbury Park is wonderful. It's such an improvement over the original in my opinion. I am featuring it in a future video. Thank you and take care.
Love the wisdom, experience, and inspiration you share in this video. I wondered about those box sets, thank you! Btw, love that Revolver hoodie, very dapper!
Thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate it. 🤗♥️
It's hard to believe people are breaking up box sets. That seems like a shame to me. Thank you and take care.
Just to keep you up to date Melinda, I still haven’t received my Beatles records, I’m feeling a little down about this, but you cheer me up. Well done
Wow! The mail can be so slow. I hope they come today! ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
Glad that you are happy with your scores. You know how to use a phone? Not in your city, use the phone. Stores have an overhead. I can see that you are proud of yourself.
And Of Course KISS/Destroyer...
You make excellent points. We are very fortunate here. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
I agree. I really enjoy the soundtrack. ♥️🤗 Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving.
Great video my friend

Good videos, I've had a great piece of good luck
My first Grail purchase was for a delux 50th Anniversary of All Things Must Pass, won it on auction for £80 which I was really happy about, received it, opened it and it was the super delux version of 8 vinyls
Oh wow! That's amazing. Good for you. 😀

Interesting and informative video Melinda. It always pays to really "check out" records. By the way, nice shirt !
Thank you so much! 🤗♥️
You have to watch out for modern color variants. For example, the red Urban Outfitters version of Lana Del Rey - Honeymoon. One to look for that no one would guess has value is Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Once More With Feeling on blue wax. Always check the soundtracks.
It's funny! You just never know what records are going to be highly sought after. 😄 Thank you and take care.

That's such a great album. Love Theme From Kiss might be my least favorite. They all have charm. Lol. Thank you and take care. ❤️🤗
I don't have that album but no doubt, it's very good. ♥️🤗 I hope you enjoy it. Thank you and take care.
I bought Demi Lovato first record Don’t Forget on splattered vinyl from UO for 18.00 dollars it worth over 300.00 now.and their isn’t any for sale in the USA on Discogs.
That's fantastic! ♥️🤗 It's amazing how expensive records can get. Thank you and take care.
Thank you for the suggestion. I have heard of that band but didn't know what kind of music they played. ♥️🤗 Take care.
Hi Melinda, you got my curiosity up on my Kiss LP and I went and looked at it to see if I had a gem and it turns out that my copy says it’s a promotional copy not for sale. Lol
1974 Casablanca white label produced by Kenny Kerner and Richie Wise NB 9001. Is this a common pressing? I can’t remember where I got it from but I do remember it was back when they first released that LP.
Thank you!
Oh, and by the way, the cover is in a mint condition with no corner holes punched or corner cuts like they normally do on promotion copies.
Very cool! 😍
Back in the early 80's I bought a copy of Misfits-Walk Among Us for five bucks. Starting price for this version on Discogs is now $400; I'm still not going to sell my copy!
Oh wow! That's a lot of money. I understand. It's hard to sell a record you love. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
I paid $1 for the Kinky Boots 2Lp ST at a Yard Sale … I wish one of my Record Shops would break up the Randy Newman box set, and sell me their copy of Bad Love
Breaking up box sets must be more common than I thought. Lol. I hope you find that record. Thank you and take care.
It’s funny you mentioned the Kiss record because I just bought it a few weeks ago , even though I have a lot of KISS records that first one had always eluded me, so when I saw one at the record shop for $20 I snagged it, even though I thought $20 was kinda sharp I snagged it anyways to complete my collection, i didn’t even think about Kissin time, until I also secured a copy of “The Originals” and then I was trying to remember was Kissin time added or deleted from the original version, once i figured that out I realized I purchased the rare original version for $20 it’s not perfect the cover has some wear and the spine is rouged up (no splits or water damage) but the record itself is in very good condition and plays great
You my dear, have an absolute treasure. ♥️♥️♥️Hang on to that one. 😃
I found 1970 david bowie white label promo copy of the men who sold the world for like 25 dollars according to discogs it was worth 236 dollars

Beatleso red and blue remix albums the biggest waste of money. The cds sound awful for the most part.
I'm so sorry to hear that. 😳 Best wishes to you.

Haha! I understand! They are worth a lot to some people. 😀 Thank you and take care.

Take care !
Thank you for the kind words. The Doors box set looks really good. ♥️ Let me know what you decide. Have a wonderful week. Take care.
What is disccogs?
You will probably need to look it up. It's too lengthy to explain here. It is a business that sells vinyl as well as a database so that you can keep your record collection files on your phone. Thank you and take care.
Great stuff M! Never knew that Van Morrison had a Super Disc pressing!! Love those and the Half-Speed Remasters! I'm still looking to trade someone for a Ozzy Box Set lol.
I hope you find the right person for the trade or hopefully a repress. 😀 Thank you and take care.
I agree with everything you said. Now is the right time to sell. Thank you and take care.
LP play back is not a fad. Vinyl is here to stay and it’s share of the market grows every year. Older folks are not retiring their vinyl collections at all. We add to them every month. Some vinyl records are worth quite a bit and their value will continue to grow.

Hey Melinda. A very special Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family. I hope this Thanksgiving becomes very special for you all.😀
Thank you so much! 😀♥️ Happy Thanksgiving to you.
I've got that Willie Nelson Good Times record I paid £3.00 for it and after posting it on a vinyl "now playing" Facebook group I was shocked when someone commented that It was rare and worth £100 +
The used record store I bought it from just lumped it in with the rest of the country albums that they price at £3.00 as they think (and are usually right) they don't have much value. I do collect Willie's albums and always grab any I don't have and this was by far my best ever purchase when it comes to value.I don't think this had been released on any format since release in 1968 until a CD version appeared in Europe this year which explains it surprise value.
I never would have guessed a Willie Nelson record would be so valuable. 😀 You just never know. Thank you and take care.
Wow! That happens sometimes right when something goes out of print. Thank you and take care.
There are a couple of tv shows that come from the UK i like" Bargain Hunt " and " Antiques Road Show ". What i find fascinating is what some things are worth or not.
Even " American Pickers " you notice the same thing.

I do love the Bond soundtracks. ♥️🤗 Thank you for the kind words.
P.S., my youngest older sister has spilled the beans, I'm getting Geddy Lee's bio " My effin' Life " as a Christmas gift, sisters aint bad after all.🎶
Wow! That will be a great read. Congrats on the Glenn Gould find. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
Wow! What a fantastic find. I bet you smiled for the entire day. 😀 Thank you and take care.
I agree. Why would they leave that record out? 🤔 There must have been a copyright issue. Thank you and take care.
You have an awesome collection, and one of the best VC channels I subscribe to! Keep up the good work Mrs Mindy!😊😊😊
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the encouragement. ♥️🤗 Take care.
Metal records, original ones like king diamond and merciful faith are very valuable (and rare)
If you like led Zeppelin and you find a Canadian all red label of 1, II, III, I suggest you give them a try.
😀 Thank you and take care.
when you ran into records hope it wasn't a mess lol and just another Awesome video and Happy Thank's Giving Yaaw'll
Haha! Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving! 🤗♥️
I have the Bear Family Boxset with 8 CDs of the Willie Nelson Rca area. For a while I buy vinyl now and then and thought it would be nice to have some Willie Rca vinyl in my collection. So I looked them up online 😱. So expensive!!
I had no idea that Willie albums were so expensive. 😳 Lol. Thank you and take care.
I know!!! It would be so easy to get carried away and not read the details. I hope people will be careful. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda, excellent informative video. I had experience of this with a Velvet Underground box set. Fortunately I had the missing records and I did not pay too much. It is also common to split toofas. By chance I brought a Procol Harum toofa in separate pieces. Take care - Steve
I can't believe how many people split their box sets up. 😳 Crazy! Thank you and take care.
I actually save my hype stickers by attaching them to blank 3x5 cards. I cut the shrink off right up next to the edge of the sticker and used double-sided tape to attach it. I place them against the back cover inside the clear outer sleeve. Easy way to keep them without damaging your covers.
That's a great idea! Thank you for sharing. I bet they look great! Take care.
Would love to find the ozzy box set great information about box sets hope you guys have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving keep being you. 🤗🤟
I can't believe so many people are breaking up those box sets. 😳 Thank you and happy thanksgiving. 🤗♥️
It's very cool that you have an Elvis record that has been sealed for all of this time. 😃 Thank you and take care.
I try to stay calm but yes, I do make mistakes. Lol. The Casino Royale album is great. Classic Records was a great label. Thank you and take care.
Great video. I actually have a first pressing of the first kiss record and an original pressing of that randy rhoads tribute album.
Sweet! Nice finds. Thank you and take care.
Cheers!
Wow! I would love to hear that stereo original. 😍 Congrats on that find. Thank you and take care.
always interesting to hear from a collector's point of view.
That's so frustrating. I'm not surprised though. I'm sorry to hear that. 😒 Thank you and take care.
