- Perhaps the most well known of the Uncle Remus Stories. The Tar Baby story seems to have its roots somehow in the lore and folk tales of both certain Native American and among certain African peoples. For now, we shall leave all that to the ethnologists to research to their hearts content while we simply enjoy the story as Joel Chandler Harris put it on paper and as David reads it aloud.

I'm 83 years old. Born in the NE USA. When I was a little nipper I was given a book of Brer Rabbit stories. I loved them. All the characters great and small. I recall seeing the Disney film. Was enchanted. Drove my parents crazy singing Zipadedoda. Thank you Uncle. Best Uncle I ever had.

Cool. Thanks for a well-done tale.
I told my daughter a version of this at bedtime the other day. But I had it end with the fox trying to eat rabbit and getting stuck in the tar too. As they fought and rolled around fox got his mouth full of tar and dirt and rabbit got free.

That's a yankee read.
Tried to read this story myself and almost had a stroke. Why on earth is the grammar so poor
it's written in a southern dialect. That's how people of the region and time period told stories.
Thank you. I had to read this book for a college course and wasn’t expecting the dialect difference
