The bike industry needs to stop pumping out $5,000.00 bikes and start coming out with affordable bikes. The technology should be getting cheaper.. not more expensive
The industry (including GCN): If you can't afford to spend $7,500(USD) every year on a new standard, then you don't deserve this hobby!! Real people: FU The industry: ...oops...well bankruptcy will save us...
I totally agree. 1000 Euro for a an alloy framed trail hardtail with thru axles and a decent fork should be possible for the industry as Canyon, Radon or Rose showed last fall.
I bought my dream bike, a Cannondale F700, in 1994 for $1400. I still have it today. It was, and still is, super light, highly capable, and wicked fast. I was a scroungy, broke college student, with a passion for the outdoors. The guys I rode with were hardcore, dedicated riders. We'd drive an hour into the mountains to find the most amazing rides. We rode in bear country, among giant conifers. We stopped to gaze over spellbinding vistas. These were the kinds of rides where if you fell to the right, you might need stitches. But if you fell to the left... well, you'd better have your will in good order (we didn't). That's what made mountain biking so great. You could be broke, and still get an amazing rush out in the wild. It was so far superior to the road bike scene, which was infested with arrogant lawyers, who rode slow, on $10k bikes that rarely saw the light of day. Boring. Sadly, that didn't last. Mountain biking hit the zeitgeist shortly thereafter. The industry started cashing in with both fists, tilting production toward plush downhill bikes for the weak and feeble, and raising prices as fast as they could. It got so stupid, I lost interest and found other ways to spend my time. I checked in recently on top tier Cannondale hardtails to see if any sanity has returned. I found prices ranging from $5k, for a middling bike, to $12k for something akin to my F700. Say what?! Do they honestly expect me to buy a hardtail for the price of a dune buggy??? It doesn't take an MBA to know that charging motorcycle prices for bicycles is a bad business model, but some industries have to learn the hard way. Too bad. Maybe by the time I retire, they'll get their heads screwed on straight again. I can hope at least.
Let alone building everything in Asia with cheap labor. For something as premium as a 12k bicycle, they should be built by well paid craftsman, which may not allow CEO’s and owners to live the excessive life they want, but would allow the economy’s and middle class to flourish in the US, UK and Australia who I believe are the biggest consumers of premium bicycles.
I've recently worked at larger multi-location local bike shops. There I discovered the owner at the beginning of the pandemic ordered nearly all the available stock from one of the major bike makers on a line of credit. I'm talking about a warehouse worth of bikes, thousand of bikes. Now he's siting of thousand of bike that have been superceded by newer models. He refuses to discount his stock, while unit sales plummet and his line of credit has come due. So if you weren't able to buy the bike you wanted during the pandemic, know its out there, in a warehouse, where you can still pay full price for it.
Yeah absolute idiot. Most of these retailers acted as if that spike in sales was gonna continue indefinitely. I have no experience in economics and yet can seem to grasp the concept that it was only going to last as long as lockdown better than businessmen in the trade who's job it is toactually know this. I have friends who work in home department businesses who bought entire buildings because they based their annual income from the 1st quarter of sales from that year. And are now laying off staff and almost bankrupt and saying "no one could've predicted the way this went".... Absolute morons.
I agree with Martins comment about a massive price drop being needed, how can companies Like Husqvarna justify an E bike costing the same as a full blown enduro motorcycle ?. A change has got to come.
Dam right they are taking the piss. I did not upgrade my 2019 ebike because its still got no issues. I brought a new road motorcycle for about 60% of the price of a decent ebike.
@onehandwashestheother Batteries are not expensive any more, the cost of Li-Ion 18650 cells used in Ebike batteries has plummeted in the last 12 months to the point where 60 cells needed for for 1 Ebike battery will cost around £90, add in a 48v BMS at £30 to control the cells and a mass produced injection moulded plastic/aluminium enclosure and a few screes for around £2 max and the parts will cost £122 and Giant will sell it us all together for £800!!
@valentinkarachun7490 Yes, a modern 2 or 4 stroke motorcycle engine is way more complex than any Ebike motor will ever be, a motorcycle engine also contains the transmission in a nice clean oil bath where we are still persevering with outdated derailleur controlled bicycle transmissions running in anything from sand to mud.
#BikeVaultShould Remain as random and subjective as it is. Just keep it drive side and pedals level. No need to turn it into "whose bike is more dentist". I enjoy seeing a battle-scarred 2003 Kona as much as a brand new 10k € Yeti.
My wife a dentist and I'm on a 2007 Kona Cinder cone.. UK dentist earn fuck all which is why I'm on a clapped out worn out bike. (NHS Is bullshit for Dentists).
I think we are just resetting back to the norm. Unfortunately, poor business decisions were made during and post pandemic that hurt a lot of companies. Supply chain hurt a lot of companies, too. Hopefully, most of the industry will make it out with just a few cuts and bruises, and the fatalities are minimal.
The problem too are counterfeits. I purchased a group set 11 speed from Ztto store and they're Sensah SLR pro 2. Much better than my GX and XT. Its lighter too. You'll need a better crank arms though. But there's also plenty of brake rotors, hydrualic brake set and it's better and thicker than sram and shimano. They basically counterfeited hope caliper, TRP levers and the pads are so much better and cheaper too.
I have absolutely zero sympathy for bike companies going out of business. They saw a way to shaft consumers during COVID and completely took the p!ss with ridiculous prices, now it’s come back to bite them.
Going along with the "recession" thing and as a contrast to the upcoming video on "expensive bikes", how about a video showcasing some of the mid-tier gear? That is probably where the value is for customers, not high end, not entry level. Many people look it over, though,"because it is not the best thing I've seen everywhere, so it must be bad". Maybe compare it with the top end and the bottom end as well and not only in speed, but also the subjective "feel" of the bikes ?
Got my giant reign E with a £1400 discount. And recently just bought an Orange P7 for £1599 down from £2600. These are the prices they should have been to start with. Greed has now come back to haunt the industry.
Probably not though because if they couldn’t stay in business selling the bikes at the top end of the price then their definitely not going to selling them at the discounted price!🤷🏼♂️
@@RobHill00it's a question of volume Vs prices, if you have a slim margin but you sell alot of bikes win, if you have large margin bikes but can't shift them you are done.
#BikeVaultShould It must follow the 7 rules of Super Nice as set by former GMBN/GMBN Tech host Doddy which are as follows- 1- Be an MTB (Gravel bikes do NOT count) 2- Be drive side 3- Pedals level at the 3 o'clock position 4- Tyre logos with valves at the 12 o'clock position 5- If a dropper post is fitted then it must be half-mast 6- NO HUMANS (Unless under 10 years old) 7- Show all the bike Bonus points MAY or MAY NOT be awarded for animals, colour co-ordination, parallel chain alignment, caked in mud, homemade/handbuilt. FINALLY- If you think your bike is Super Nice, then it is! Ride it and enjoy it. That's what it's all about! Life's motto "The less I care what people think, the easier life becomes. Just don't be a d*ck!" 🤘❤🌈🕊🌍
Every bike over 4000 should let you pick bar width, stem length and crank length, so it actually fits. They all use common cockpit brands, this hasn’t changed for 30 years. First company that does it gives back the new owner 500 straight away - and then be ahead of the competition from a value perspective.
No bikes for demo/rental! In my area (USA, NC, RDU) none of the bike shops have demo/rentals that can be used for the day on our local single track (mostly green & blue). There is NO chance that I will spend $2000-5000 on a bike that I can't get a demo on.
Can totally relate to Neil’s comments at @18:55. My enduro bike sucks the life out of me on local rides. Mainly use it for downhill in the Swiss Alps instead. I ride my cheap hardtail locally 🤘
I was a distributor for a high-end small American brand, and they totally stabbed me in the back this year, It was a huge bummer. The previous staff contacted me to apologize and mentioned that many IBD have been burned by them. It is a bummer what is happening but I think that the bad companies will close and the good companies will continue.
Are 100% correct on price. I have been out of the game for the past 6 years after a cycling vs car in Tampa broke my back. I have a road, gravel, and MTB. Mt MTB is a card on fat bike 9 yrs old. Now I’m ready to get back on the trails and looked at a new ride and choked on my tacos! Thank you, but I’ll stick with what I have and save my $$ for some upgrades!
What I think the bike industry needs to do is A- cut their prices so things are more affordable. B- Stop putting out new bikes for a couple of years. Just stick what they are already producing. We don't need a new version of a bike they already produce every year. It ridiculous to keep doing it because generally, the changes are so small that the average person doesn't notice them. And with every iteration, they raise the price.
Fingers crossed for the boutique bike builders, they have been the only ones really pushing while the the big companies churned out the same stuff and cashed in.
The main problem was brands like Santa Cruz, Yeti, Trek raised their prices 20-30% since 2020 due to demand. It was too much too fast. The bikes with massive inventory is strictly on them due to poor forecasting.
Those are the brands that i dont like their design , i would never buy them , especially Yeti with that infinity link , its just bs , and a i saw a Trek Slash frame , the top tube was cracked round in the middle , i was shocked , this is a carbon frame life ? No thanks , i never want to buy carbon , never , i dont trust them ...
The buy one get one free deal seems like a good way to clear out inventory really. If you have 10,000 bikes in inventory and you cut the price to 50%, you need to have 10,000 sales. If you do BOGO, then you only need 5,000 sales and you clear out the inventory and get the same amount of money coming in.
Not really, you can get a decent mountain-bike for around £1000/$1200 these days - it's only the higher end bikes which start to cost silly money... but those are still a lot cheaper than an equivalent Ducati or a Porsche. You could make the same comparison to any high-end sport's equipment, or even a year's worth of groceries...
@@jmo2752 i hear what you are saying. Yet however, even with the higher end bikes, how can a company justify and expect riders and consumers to spend upwards to $15,000 on a mountain bike? Then there is the warranty side of things, and some mountain bike company’s don’t have a decent warranty program. And through my searches on this. The only Mountain bike company that has somewhat of a decent warranty program for all situations is YETI Cycles. Now compare it to a high end model of let’s say a Yamaha YZ450f cost is $9,000 - $10,000 max, and warranty is 5 years on 90% of anything that goes on bike. And the cheaper mountain bikes that I have seen are usually on the used market, and those prices are somewhat unjustified as well, especially when you are not sure what the previous owner is not telling you. And on the used side of things in my neck of the woods in Canada, the cheapest I have found at the $1200 mark is a a 2011 norco shore that was in pretty rough condition.
Pretty soon, you will have to plug a laptop into your bike to calibrate your bike settings. Marketing teams will make you feel like you can't ride a bike without them. Code r brakes, slx drivetrain, good suspension. That's all I need. My main bike doesn't have a single thing carbon. Make em good not crazy expensive.
I bought a bike in 2008 that was considered pretty high up in spec and quality for that particular international brand (which is still going today), just over £2k. Today something of comparable standing looks like £6-£8k. Even a hardtail around £1.5k with xtr would today be miles higher…no one’s reinventing the wheel and they work as well as they did back then today - despite geometry changes. I guess we could consider canyon however, decent bikes and not insanely priced for some modest models (ok so there are some high prices but lots are affordable).
Aye Some of us are still earning the same...or in real terms had a pay cut. Used to be annual trips to alps, trail centre every week...That's for retired rich people now.
Orange haven’t called in the administrators yet. They are currently working with specialist business rescue advisory firm J9 advisory. With a view to restructuring the entire business going forward. Let’s hope they can save jobs and keep this company going.
It's a shame to hear about Orange Bikes going under. For such an iconic UK brand, I think people forget they are (were) a pretty small business. They didn't churn out tens of thousands of bikes a year. They survived on a small cult following which is fine until there is a recession and other economic factors that makes the price tags on their bikes just plain ridiculous
Martin hit the nail on the head & talks sense, I said this 3 years ago about Orange bikes they just didnt seem to change their design & they have had their day back then, When i 1st started mtb Orange bikes was a must have especially for the look at me crowd but these days even the new Orange bike look old 😅
The industry needs to move away from the new range every year model, especially at the higher end. If you have spent five grand and up on a bike, you don't need to upgrade the following year and the quality/technology of the bike alone won't have changed that much in twelve months. My Rallon is a 2021 and three years later I still can't see a reason to buy a new one. But Orbea will still release one every year and spend a ton marketing it.
Good point - although then the manufacturers will be accused of only offering 'bold new graphics/colours' - see comments about Orange above. I think the real issue (as you point out) is why is everyone changing their bikes each year? Unless it (or parts of it) is worn out, just keep on riding it! 'New Bike Day' TH-cam videos have a lot to answer for...
Always the same with cycling only about 10 percent of riders are capable of using a bike over £800 to its full potential.Brainwashed into spending thousands
That's why I limit my budget to 1k, that always been enough bike for me and scope for upgrades should I feel the need too, no need to be a trail tart 😂
@@UP_YRS_NWO absolutely mate, I’m the same never spent more than £800 and had as much fun as the rest, probably more because I’m not worried if I break anything.
I think you guys could be right, I think it was greed , some of the frame/groupset options some manufacturers were pumping out for the cost was simply just not worth it.
If bike companies can do two for one deals, they were definitely ripping everyone off with their original prices. How astonishing that people who were charging preposterous prices are suffering - Almost like that’s not the right thing to do.
To be fair, most products are going to have a 100% mark-up from manufacturer to retailer these days, so once you cut out the distributor and retailer's margin, then by selling direct to consumer Kona can shift [overstock] inventory and still break-even I suspect... The question is does anyone really want/need two of the same brand/similar model bike?
#bikevaultshould keep up the good work. I really appreciate the themed vault editions like hardtails, downhill, cross country, kids bikes, etc. I appreciate that your show is unique and not just a copy of the GCN show with knobbolie tires n’ stuff ;)
6:25 I absolutely think we are due for a reset in the order of business, but I think it’ll be achieved in a different way. I half expect there to be more rapid prototyping machines that trickle down into mass manufacturing and some bike shops to actually become bespoke builders with said machines.
#BikeVaultShould be a positive experience instead of the overly critical mess on GCN. You are picking the bikes, surely you can pick the ones you want to say something nice about instead of picking the ones you want to criticize
Eminent Cycles has all their MTB inventory on auction right now. Not sure how many people want a fire sale frame, but they also have lots of Fox forks & shocks and wheels from Crankbros & Sun Ringle
My Procaliber 9.5 cost 2500.00 and 2 price increases and took 12 months to get it, then we had to replace the rear wheel twice, 1 under warranty and we ended up buying a aftermarket wheel for 800.00
I got x3 nukeproof scout comps off them for a £999 each, normal price is £1800. So far we are happy with them, I will say their warranty is dog poo, I had a BB go and they don't cover bearing on their warranty even after 3 rides 😂, I don't mind to much as I can fix my own bike, so £20 quid on a new BB and I was back up and running.
I’d love to purchase more bikes. But until the prices make a drastic drop, i’m on hold. Don’t torch me for this, but it’s just a bicycle!! As much as I love the sport I still can’t justify the cost for 2 wheels.
Re : Orange going bust There's been a few bike companies going the way of the dodo not just manufacturers. A lot of these companies seem to owe suppliers big money...how long before the big suppliers e.g. SRAM, Shimano, frame manufacturers, tyre companies start to run into problems due to the money they're losing because of others going bust???
My first posh bike cost 2003 £1500, second was £1300 2006. 2011 it needed replaced but even base equivalent was unaffordable until I discovered Vitus in 2023. That was a huge customer barrier and reeled in trips to the alps and other associated spending. 2008 onwards spending power dropped massively due to huge inflation. Tory years have been especially hard and brexit! JFC. I just stopped Travelling. I want standard Frames for ebikes to reduce E waste and for them to be sold without motor so you can choose. If they do have a motor it should last for 20 years like a washing machine and have lifetime warranties.
It’s not that bad if you ask me, I bought a status 160 £2000 down from £2600 on cycle to work scheme so it was even cheaper. Absolute banger on a stead. Of course you can spend as much as you like but unless you’re sending 40ft gaps or obsessed with even more than 160 travel it’s whatever you want to spend. Don’t need to spend £5000+ to have a sweet ride
Hmm, as long as people are going to keep buying exotic Bikes, they are going to keep making them 🤔. A 15K Bike is simply a down payment for the upgrades. Am I wrong ? I am seriously cheap and buying a Salsa Fargo Gravel Bike for $2650 was a bit high for me! $500 too around $1'000 for a decent 29" bmx Bike running 4130 Chromoly is what I am used to. After talking with my local Bike Shop, he has two Bikes on the wall at 20K each. Blows me away!!! I will continue to follow Bike prices, because there's always room for another Bike!!! 🤔
Idea for the Bike Valt. Bikes that were bought or built during Covid, when prices were high, but we had time and money. Who built a Super Nice Covid Build? PS No Rules ;-)
The number of 2 and 3 yeard old used 3 times high spec bikes on the second hand market from the covid days is mad. There's some great deals to be had. Doesn't help the manufacturers though.
I have a Orange Vitamin T first edition only 35 made (before the T2 came out in mass production)with MAG 21s XTR groupset from 1992/3 needs a new rear wheel built. If Orange do disappear will it be worth a lot of money?. I heard that Santa Cruz was in financial trouble. I think Giant are the ones who are the billion worth of stock company.
Ordered a really nice T800 carbon frame from china, still had the manufacture invoice in the box that listed the price that the wholesaler paid, $130, the seller charged me $600 shipping included, to get a name brand of similar quality bike that I had built for $1800 would cost about about $7000. Companies that price gouge should go out of business. The nicest bike you can get is still just a pedal bike. It should not cost more than a nice used car.
We've reached peak bike, bikes from 2017+ are brilliant - just don't need to replace them. Except for transitioning to ebike maybe. bikes are way too expensive!!!!
During Covid the biking industry exploded as people looked for something to do! Stores got greedy as they sold loads of bikes and the Manufacturers got greedy because they saw what shops were taking! Everyone made a profit while the consumer got ripped off over the last few years with increasing prices! If they (stores and manufacturers) don’t reset and seriously reduce bike prices, then the writing is on the wall for them! But, maybe some are happy with that, make a fortune and retire 😮
Bikes are cheap (not really). Price of bike parts are the problem. Try to buy a matching bike in parts. You could only get shock, fork and maybe a saddle for the same money and that’s it. Then all the rest and assembly so complete bikes are cheap (not really). It’s more than just bike brands it’s component manufactures that should be brought to the discussion as well.
#BikeVaultShould No dogs or pets of any kind. No people (including children). No cars/vans. 3 o'clock cranks & drive side shot to even be considered for nice/super nice. Actual pedals must also be level. No slack cables (that Marin Alkatraz). No frame bags. No tan wall tyres. No helmets. No gloves. No gravel bikes. No BMX’s. No road bikes. No E Bikes. No mudguards. Must be able to see graphics on down tube. Half-mast droppers a must. No photos from your back garden. Only 1 bike per photo. If the rules above are not met, not even a nice can be given. New rating of “Urm” can be awarded for such shenanigans.
I have absolutely ZERO sympathy for the bike industry, especially the Mountain Bike industry, whatsoever! Mountain Bikes have become absolutely ridiculous over the last few years. Fad after fad after fad with no innovation for years and years! Not only do we have to put up with these ridiculous fads we have to put up with the industry ripping us off for them! The fact that a bike full of pointless fads costs more than a high performance Motorbike is an absolute joke on a monumental level!! Hopefully consumers have now woken up to this instead of constantly defending the industries indefensible! Time for a reset and remember what Mountain Biking is all about!
I benefitted from fads or innovation. I bought a top notch scott scale race bike at 70% saving because it was a 27.5. Even got a jacket worth over 100 quid thrown in. Great bike. Still have it. Also got a bargain on a Trek cx bike. Last of rim brake versions. Use it as my spare in cx races. Had many bikes over the years. Never paid rrp.

#BikeVaultShould Trying again, this time with the # Bike vault rules - drive side - pedals flat - no people (exception for kids) - trail dogs get a super nice - Cannondales get a super nice
Bikes are expensive because people demand top performance. 10 yrs ago, if you would have told somebody they could have tubeless tires, hydraulic disc brakes, and dropper posts on a sub $1k then you’d be pretty stoked. Now those are going to be Tektro but comparing them to how they are top notch. Lot of R&D last few years advancing MTB. Road bikes is another story lol Ae are a niche hobby so those costs don’t get spread as far. Mountain bikers minds would be blown by the cost of electric mountain boards an even more niche sport.
Probably doesn’t help the big enduro brands that the coverage of the races last year was piss poor in comparison to the DH stuff. Could less exposure for the money being spent also impact. Could Greg Minnaar have taken on a pay to ride type contract you’d see in F1
I don't think the GMBN Bike Vault should copy the GCN Bike Vault. I ALWAYS skip that elitist crap. Been a little bit more like the EMBN Bike Vault would be great. Have a few more non drive side and give some of them a Super Nice.
It’s been mentioned, but he seems like a pretty humble guy about it. I mean he wasn’t Greg Minaar or anything, but still rode at the highest level. I love watching him ride, so fluid.
the difference in sponsorship is obvious. in different sports sponsors are actualy from outside industry, coca-cola, heineken, swiss, various banks etc. while most of the bike teams essential don't really have sponsors, they "sponsor" itself - it's just not viable.
So would you factor in R & D? How about marketing? Or overhead for salaries, benefits, physical plant? You have a pretty simplistic view of how business actually work.
It's not just expensive bikes that are the issue, it's the accessories and everything that goes with it. Why are some (most?) bike helmets £70 plus for a bit of expanded polystyrene and a hard plastic coating? Frequently looking at £100+. I can buy a full face, industry certified motorbike helmet for the same (or less) money than many bicycle helmets. £45 for a full face, with visor in fact! The bicycle industry needs to stop fleecing us. They especially need to stop using new technologies such as MIPS as an excuse to double their prices because "how much value do you put on your head". It's just a few extra cheap parts tacked to the inside. Yes, there's developmental costs, but ultimately the prices they charge are far above the actual cost of production.
How did these companies not realise that that boom was short term and plan for it? Makes you wonder if the people running these companies are the right people to do so
I suspect - and it would be interesting if GMBN could actually interview an industry insider about it - that they didn't expect the Covid 'boom' to last indefinitely, rather since they sold out of stock in 2020 so quickly, they put in huge orders (with OEM parts suppliers and frame manufacturing factories etc.) to try and replenish inventory as quickly as possible, only that production of these replacements took longer than the ongoing demand required (ie. there were still waiting lists for certain models in 2021/22) and it's only now they have excess inventory? Plus the worldwide economy has taken a down-turn in the past 18 months, and people don't have the budget (or at least are unwilling) to spend on hobbies in the way they might have in the past.
@@jmo2752 it would be good if the likes of GMBN did a proper insiders view as to what the state of play is, that being said, I think it’s going to take some time to come through this

Well, because husqvarna sells both, I guess? And fanboys are gonna fanboy.
@onehandwashestheother but on the other side we got a whole motorcycle. A way more complex thing, with more parts, materials..
@valentinkarachun7490
Yes, a modern 2 or 4 stroke motorcycle engine is way more complex than any Ebike motor will ever be, a motorcycle engine also contains the transmission in a nice clean oil bath where we are still persevering with outdated derailleur controlled bicycle transmissions running in anything from sand to mud.
Let the companies hurt, they need to realize that they aren't invincible and need to cater to the people, not the racers
And we’re in "late stage capitalism". Fancy bikes are a very disposable luxury in the big picture of the world and all the people in it…
The problem too are counterfeits.
Oh What my stick whip bodge is famous?! 😂 Thanks guys, stoked! Cheered me up nicely as stuck on couch with post crash busted ribs 😔🎉
Where'd you buy them from? new from a retailer?
#BikeVaultShould It must follow the 7 rules of Super Nice as set by former GMBN/GMBN Tech host Doddy which are as follows-
1- Be an MTB (Gravel bikes do NOT count)
2- Be drive side
3- Pedals level at the 3 o'clock position
4- Tyre logos with valves at the 12 o'clock position
5- If a dropper post is fitted then it must be half-mast
6- NO HUMANS (Unless under 10 years old)
7- Show all the bike
Bonus points MAY or MAY NOT be awarded for animals, colour co-ordination, parallel chain alignment, caked in mud, homemade/handbuilt.
FINALLY- If you think your bike is Super Nice, then it is! Ride it and enjoy it. That's what it's all about!
Life's motto "The less I care what people think, the easier life becomes. Just don't be a d*ck!"

What has the world come to 😔
Every bike over 4000 should let you pick bar width, stem length and crank length, so it actually fits. They all use common cockpit brands, this hasn’t changed for 30 years. First company that does it gives back the new owner 500 straight away - and then be ahead of the competition from a value perspective.
Worst of all at least on the road side is the gearing. Road bikes are extremely overgeared
No bikes for demo/rental! In my area (USA, NC, RDU) none of the bike shops have demo/rentals that can be used for the day on our local single track (mostly green & blue).
There is NO chance that I will spend $2000-5000 on a bike that I can't get a demo on.
This. Cut race teams but keep demos, cutting demos is a downward spiral.
Why this particular episode is so entertaining to watch from the beginning to the end??? Keep up the good works guys~
When you can buy a motobike for the same price as a push bike you know something just ain't right
Are 100% correct on price.
What I think the bike industry needs to do is
A- cut their prices so things are more affordable.
B- Stop putting out new bikes for a couple of years. Just stick what they are already producing. We don't need a new version of a bike they already produce every year. It ridiculous to keep doing it because generally, the changes are so small that the average person doesn't notice them. And with every iteration, they raise the price.
This is an excellent point!
Archery companies do the same, make some minor changes, add a rubber damper and bingo the latest and greatest and charge another $100.
As a former employee to one of the big 3 it’s only just the beginning. The downfall is in swing.
@onehandwashestheother You?
I brought three bikes from CRC in December, nukeproof scout comp, we did get a massive discount, but forget your warranty it's nonexistent.
I agree with price drops. As most new Mountain Bikes are more than a used car, a new dirt bike or in some cases a new car.
Totally agree, in Australia a 6yo car is cheaper then a carbon framed mtb with ally rims
That’s literally what going into administration means…
It's a shame to hear about Orange Bikes going under. For such an iconic UK brand, I think people forget they are (were) a pretty small business. They didn't churn out tens of thousands of bikes a year. They survived on a small cult following which is fine until there is a recession and other economic factors that makes the price tags on their bikes just plain ridiculous
Martin hit the nail on the head & talks sense, I said this 3 years ago about Orange bikes they just didnt seem to change their design & they have had their day back then, When i 1st started mtb Orange bikes was a must have especially for the look at me crowd but these days even the new Orange bike look old 😅
Their bikes look like filing cabinets. Oh yeah, that’s what they started making.
I think they look bad ass to be honest. Each to their own.
@@lenordchristopher6447Agreed, I just had 4 bikes stolen, I can't imagine how I would feel if it was 5k per bike, it was bad enough at those prices.
I think you guys could be right, I think it was greed , some of the frame/groupset options some manufacturers were pumping out for the cost was simply just not worth it.
Part of the reason I'm still riding 10 speeds, that and the more durable chains.

#captioncontest Blake takes off his helmet to reveal the sequel to Rataouille - new from Disney in 2024… “Catamountainbiker”
Eminent Cycles has all their MTB inventory on auction right now. Not sure how many people want a fire sale frame, but they also have lots of Fox forks & shocks and wheels from Crankbros & Sun Ringle
My Procaliber 9.5 cost 2500.00 and 2 price increases and took 12 months to get it, then we had to replace the rear wheel twice, 1 under warranty and we ended up buying a aftermarket wheel for 800.00
So has anyone else noticed the Reynolds comp is wrong. The wording says ‘wheel’ but the answer options are for a set of wheels!
#BIKEVAULTSHOULD
Have shown my bike on the show ☹️
It was a custom np scout in blue and yellow! Blue and yellow!? Yes blue…and…yellow.
CRC were selling £1,400 Ragley Big Al’s for £400, which is just insane - (didn’t have my size unfortunately!)
£2100 steel HT for 800. Shit spec though for the price, was slx at best.
I really want to win those wheels, because if i sell them, i could finally afford to buy a proper mtb x)
I’d love to purchase more bikes. But until the prices make a drastic drop, i’m on hold. Don’t torch me for this, but it’s just a bicycle!! As much as I love the sport I still can’t justify the cost for 2 wheels.
Re : Orange going bust
There's been a few bike companies going the way of the dodo not just manufacturers. A lot of these companies seem to owe suppliers big money...how long before the big suppliers e.g. SRAM, Shimano, frame manufacturers, tyre companies start to run into problems due to the money they're losing because of others going bust???
The BMX stunt clips were OFF THE CHAIN! :D
RIDE in Coventry threw in the towel recently......sad times😢
It’s not that bad if you ask me, I bought a status 160 £2000 down from £2600 on cycle to work scheme so it was even cheaper. Absolute banger on a stead. Of course you can spend as much as you like but unless you’re sending 40ft gaps or obsessed with even more than 160 travel it’s whatever you want to spend. Don’t need to spend £5000+ to have a sweet ride
#Dirtshedshould keep doing whatever they want because that is exactly what Mountain bike and cycling in general is all about
I'm royally screwed, sitting with a 10 month old emtb that loss half it's value in the 2nd hand market because of bike shops heavily discounting them.
Excellent show! The only thing I'd change is could the Sickest Thing guy walking a little faster plz

Orange!?!?! WTF man! no way. The OG fat tubes man.
I did the screwed tire thing about 20 years ago. It worked great but was a pain to do😅
Got an orange switch 7. Its a beautiful machine.
love watching the dirt shed show, always makes my day!
JAMIS bicycles are KING! Been around since 1937 and still going strong!
Got my orange alpine evo year 2021 i loved it
We've reached peak bike, bikes from 2017+ are brilliant - just don't need to replace them.
Yay, my ideas made it to the show 🎉
Bikes are cheap (not really).
Trek have pulled out of distribution in the UK, all stock coming from Germany now.

They jacked prices up 40% in three years - there is no crisis just a return to normal times. The companies deserve to go under.

My biggest request regarding the Bike Vault is you GMBN guys on EMBN just giving so many thumbs down. Particularly Martyn. You have given so many low “nice” to some exceptional bikes cause you don’t get it. And Steve is making this face at you GMBN guys, like “what are these GMBN standards that don’t mean anything on EMBN”

Wow, I didn't know Neil was a pro...........how has he not mentioned this before 😂
He did, cople videos beferore him and blake made a video called,
"How much a pro mtb'r make a year"
Or something like that
It’s been mentioned, but he seems like a pretty humble guy about it. I mean he wasn’t Greg Minaar or anything, but still rode at the highest level. I love watching him ride, so fluid.
I would be glad to reduce the stock with fair prices not only for top of the range bikes, but also for mid-low range bikes.
I heard Orange is talking rescue and aren't going anywhere
#BikeVaultShould - Drive side only, level pedals (drive side forward), no special treatment for Cannondale's!
the difference in sponsorship is obvious. in different sports sponsors are actualy from outside industry, coca-cola, heineken, swiss, various banks etc. while most of the bike teams essential don't really have sponsors, they "sponsor" itself - it's just not viable.
We need .martyn to stick a microphone in front of the bike company spokesmen and ask " how much does this bike cost to make ????
Theres a difference between making a bike, and being able to make a bike on a global scale. If it was that simple, everyone would do it
So would you factor in R & D?
Expensive?……yeah, I’ve gone single speed to save on drive chains….not going back. Cheaper, more fun, more reliable 🤙
@@jmo2752 it would be good if the likes of GMBN did a proper insiders view as to what the state of play is, that being said, I think it’s going to take some time to come through this
The same exact thing is happen ing to eCars....The lots are over flowing with electric cars that are NOT selling!
