Well, at least you got the cgi out of the way. None of their other MVs had CGI effects, just this one. All the rest have actual sets that took human hands to build. And this really was one of the calmer songs. They don't have any songs that would be played on a smooth jazz channel. All their songs have multiple switch-ups as you mentioned (four or five different songs sprinkled together into one solid entertaining piece). Most of their songs have both rap and straight singing. They are amazing for that though, you will never be bored.

I don't think that it's very much taking pleasure from another's misfortune, as you aren't like "Wow I really like seeing her suffer let's see how many ways I can make her suffer in order to feel better about myself". I'd say it's more of a comforting pleasure, like, you don't want anyone to have to deal with anything that you are dealing with, because it's incredibly annoying and no-one should have to deal with that, but it's uplifting to know that you aren't the only person stuff happens to.

But there is swag even in their ballads. They (and their producer, Teddy), actually had to argue with the company to release "Whistle" as one of their debut songs, because it switches style so many times (including country). Their other debut, "Boombayah", is less calm, as you know :)

Although the creative vision and the tenacity to follow through is there the set director and creative directors at that time does not have the tech to do so. But You can see, they really tried. Now that tech is available and the knowledge of set design. Cgi becomes a moot point. Unlike other labels who still clings on to cgi and green screens up to this day.
