My brutha! I see orange is your favorite color too haha!!! I wish I had all Ridgid tools but since I use most of them for work too I have to pick the best for my needs….. I get mad when I have to pick a Dewalt or Makita over a Ridgid but sadly they do some dumb design choices sometimes…. The only thing I wish the planer had is 2 speeds like the more expensive Dewalt, I think these feed a little too fast. I’m going to see if I can change the feeder gear ratio or something
Nice!! Yeah, other brands definitely have some pro design upgrades compared to Ridgid tools. But when possible I choose Ridgid for warranty (LSA). Like you said……pick the “best” tool for your needs. That’s what I say in most all my videos for what brand to buy, keep with your needs. Good luck with the gear ⚙️ ratio! Let me know how you make out. 😊Dan
My first thought on the video was I wonder if this guy who seems to own every rigid tool out there is going to give a good review on a rigid planer? surprisingly yes he did. Not a surprise really every Rigid tool Ive had has been excellent I have the same oscillating spindle/belt sander he does and have used it heavily for over a decade, thing still looks and runs like new Nice tip on the maintenance, never occurred to me to do that. I do regularly use car polish on my scroll saw table and it really helps keep things sliding freely, not sure why ii never occurred to me to do that on the planer tables too. Excellent, very informative video
As far as power the normal cutting blades require less power because the is a little break between knives contacting the wood. Helical heads are in constant contact. An curious to see the results.
Ty for this review ive watch 4 or 5 different vids on here and you was the most thorough. I'm deciding between this on and a ryobi and you've helped out a bunch. I will be liking and subscribing.
I’m glad I could be of help with your overall decision. Whenever I do tool reviews, I try to give the best and detailed information I can. That way it helps people to make the best decision and buy the best tool for their needs. 😊Dan
Thanks 😊. Yes this thickness planer is very well-built. I try to give us much detail as possible when describing any tool. I know I enjoy that so I can make an informed decision to buy it or not. Dan 😊
I’ve had this planer for 6-7 years now. Very important to clean the rollers. Also, I always clean a bit of the roller, turn it on and off quickly to turn the rollers and clean that part of the rollers. I keep doing that until the rollers are all clean. BTW, I’ve never had the motor shut off on me. I never take more than 1/32 but rather take 1/64. Keep an eye on the blade too. If you are cutting hardwood you will need to keep rotating and replacing the blades.
Thank you for an extremely informative video. The maintenance and cut depth sold me on my choice. I am looking forward to using the white oak and cherry harvested from our property. Well done Sir
I have had one for several years and I have yet to be able to solve a recurring problem - the drive chain slips on the gears, causing random feeding pauses. I've tried adjusting the position of the gear rollers but it never works, it seems the chain is too long.
I know chains can stretch out over time will lots of use. Maybe contact Ridgid for a replacement chain. Also check the bolts around the rollers. Mine loosened up over time causing a similar issue. Hope that helped out troubleshooting the issue. Dan 😊
On mine, the indeed roller does not feed material anymore, after minimal use. Cutting 1/64 or 1/32 with every pass. Petty bummed out. Didn’t do the LSA registration, as I was trusting this would last, my bad,
Should be a 3 year limited warranty without registration online. If it’s before that I’d look into contacting Ridgid. Can’t hurt either way. Hope this helps. 🙂 Dan
Thanks Dan. That’s exactly what I did. I called Ridgid and the unit is at service center now as it is only a year old with less than 20hr of total operation. Fingers crossed.
Not sponsored by RIDGID at all. Just a guy in a shop with a handful of tools. I have used many different brands over the years in carpentry. My takeaway with RIDGID tools compared to other brands is the LSA. Also replacement Batteries for life!!! Kinda hard to beat that when you are a small time hobbyist/carpenter. We all work hard for our money so why not buy a tool brand that backs their products long term. Just my thoughts. The goal is to get out in the shop and have fun no matter the brand or skill. Thanks 😊 Dan

Thanks for the great Comment!! I do enjoy receiving postive feedback on my videos, it helps me push myself to do more. 🙂Dan
I just ordered a lux 3 helical head for mine. The planer is a solid performer
let me know how you make out in performance after you install the lux helical head.🙂Dan
@ShopTalkWithDanTheMan I have been researching it and really shouldn't be to difficult except for a ball bearing.

@@RidgidRon as am I!
