I truly appreciate Guilty Gear's commitment to making every character simultaneously the best and worst in the game. Really adds a lot of interesting ammo to the "you didn't really win/lose, your/my character is just broken" discourse.

That’s a good observation. Especially in cases like I-No where the hover dash becomes a blessing and a curse for playing neutral in certain matchups. It’s definitely important to their general design philosophy.

I beat an Axl as ABA earlier and truly felt like Christ had risen. She’s a special character
Literally parry his ranged attacks (free meter) and install, then press dash once and teleport straight into his irl address.

I've had this game for over a year and had about 10 hours in it. As soon as I saw A.B.A. the "glutton for punishment" part of my brain activated and I now have another 10 hours already. I'm having so much fun.

My favorite thing to do is round start, instantly backdash, 5S, install. Nothing like starting a round on whiff punish and 75% gauge.

I don't know, I think she's really good, but she's not for everyone. You need to be a very special kind of player to enjoy the constant switch between the powerlevel of each mode. But I think Mohora is plenty good enough to justify Normal mode problems in this game.
I actually really respect that ArcSys kept her this way. It's way more faithful than someone like Baiken who just became a basic rushdown character just so everyone could play her.
Once you get into Moroha ONCE, if you are any decent you have perma meter and only spend a second or two at max outside of it (and it's mostly on wallsplats and things like that). Her weakneses are gone after you gain any sort of resource and get your turn.
@@petrikillos To be fair, that was somewhat true of her original form too since if you were forced out of Moroha mode when you didn't want to leave it after first activating it in a round, you almost always died. Obviously that punishment has been removed for ease of use, but as the OP said, A.B.A. is still far closer to her original form than characters like Baiken or (New) Testament.

Having a pixel of health on Aba and then getting a single hit as her and winning the round feels so good ngl this character makes you feel some sorta way

i know that suka motion can't hurt me anymore, but i still get stressed everytime i see a.b.a get knocked down (which is extra funny when you remember there aren't even instant kills anymore)
There's an equivalent, ABA is forced into a standing state after she runs out of Jealousy, so she's susceptible to being hit by fuzzies for a short period of time.

Thanks for the games! I was dancing around a lot since I thought you’d use 214K in neutral more to get around my pokes but I didn’t need to be that particularly scared of it. I really need to find a way to deal with A.B.A just flying at me in Moroha 😵💫 Air throw seemed to be working sometimes; maybe DP or preemptive Foudre Arc? Fun set regardless, not sure how I feel about being represented by Hank Hill in the thumbnail lmao

honestly I noticed Ky matchup being a lot of RPS at midrange where you're either trying to 214K/2P his 5S or 236K his lows when I tried it. Ky and Johnny both seem really tough where they can just stick you in the corner at their max range and you won't have answers other than FDing them out or getting a lucky guess

Might be a good character to play if you struggle to get in and open up your opponent.
-In jealous rage doing those things is super easy.
-In normal mode even someone good at getting in probably couldn’t so you aren’t missing much.

After playing her for the week and consuming content for her, i dont feel like she really has a "bad" state unless shes fighting zoners or sitting in corner, which who doesnt struggle with that?
The cope is that base form isnt the best, but her pressure in it is absurd even before popping rage. I forsee her stagger pressure in base form getting nerfed or her command grab getting worse. I cant tell you how good it is until you fight it.
You still get shock state if you counter the stun edge… pain.
Edit: Kai matchup looking even more painful because she isn’t allowed to have a long range fast low to beat his 6p because it would make her jealous rage mixup even more oppressive.

Doing the HS super in base form is great on wall break as it'll give you a near full guage and put you in her install, setting up for a full steamroll.
With people's perceptions, it's the Nago situation all over again. Difference being Nago's guage is his restraint, while Aba's is her reward. As more lab testers post tech on social media, her base form will work more in tandem with her install, rather than in opposition. A hard character for sure but the reward and fun in exploring her options is real dam satisfying. Looking forward to see how people unlock her potential.
This character reminds me of Gabranth from the PSP Dissidia Final Fantasy games. Such a bad normal form that winning like that triggers an Easter egg facial animation (his install puts on a helmet that would otherwise hide it). Meanwhile, his install, which actually gives him a complete moveset and the ability to deal HP damage without niche RPS mechanics, shmoves all over the place and has a bunch of attacks with absurd tracking or vacuum effects.
It's an RPG, so there's ways to put him in his install for longer than normal, but I'm pretty sure most of those are banned in tourney. His players don't have a problem getting the install, anyways.
(Good grief, I just saw the combo slightly under 2 minutes in, and that is an absurd amount of damage for no Risk gauge, half meter, and one counterhit anti-air out of install. I guess the trade-off is that you're left with half or lower regular meter and no install afterwards, though that's the sort of interaction that could easily end games.)
Tip: Out of install, you can do CH 5H > 214K and combo a normal into keygrab

3:40, if you do this and retain a good amount of tension you are still in a somewhat decent position since any hit can be RRCd into a keygrab combo. It's still just better to never use the super while in Moroha unless you are certain it will kill, though.
I feel like people are overestimating her weaknesses and saying she's "Feast or Famine", completely glossing over the fact that her install is extremely oppresive and hard to defend against, that she has multiple ways of staying above 50% meter for pretty much the whole match and that her base form is not nearly as garbage as some say it is.

A.B.A is the character for people who’ve never played Guilty Gear in their lives but say they’ve been playing since 2012. She’s truly the guiltiest of gears.
ABA is pretty good, don't downplay the caracter btw you should manually cancel your install mode, to avoid draining your gauge, she is like Sato in that sense, so use your super and meter management to go in and out of jealousy, btw, ABA is character design to change drastically her playstyle and your role(attacker/defender/keeping neutral) by extension, once you are close to jealousy depleting you should, pull back and switch gears.
PD: Goubo has already notice that and has a combo that ends in a reset after manually turn off jealousy rage, to restart pressure. If you haven't mastered that meter management is like Nago when nobody knew how to control their blood gauge and making players egos feel that is was the character that felt underwhelming when in reality it was all along their fault, same thing with Happy Chaos.
I feel like key grab needs to be a command grab and not a hit grab

Sajam. Olay tge gane bruh. She's not "bad". She's unique. The things YOU think to be valuable are NOT what she uses to operate ir be effective in that mode. You have to have specific skills in that mode to either get into jealousy (which IS your aim by design) or just end the roundbin that mode.
The fact that I'm still struggling with ONE character, in ONE fighting game, while mutants like Sajam are constantly mastering multiple characters of multiple FGs relays to me that I'm just utterly inept. I'm literally built different... in the worst way imaginable.
I wouldn't beat yourself up about struggling with one character/one game. Lots of the skills learned in one game/character transfer and it takes time. The amount of time Sajam has most likely spent playing fighting games is probably massive as well.
I know for myself I was only 'capable' of playing Zangief in SFV and learned how to walk people down, so when I tried strive I started on potemkin and had to learn charge motions plus DP motions. Now with having learned charge motions, I've been learning Honda and Guile in SF6. But through out this, I've always tried to mess around with the entire cast and learned new things along the way. Good luck!
Have you literally been playing this genre for more than a decade? Comparison is the theft of joy. The fact that there are so many fighting games, characters, and so much knowledge sharing to try is exciting. Your journey may just be starting but it has such breadth for you to explore
Gotta remember that these dudes have thousands (if not tens of thousands) of hours of experience under their belts. That shit adds up.
