👍🏾 this comment (and the video 😉) if you would like for Matty to also react to Quentin’s remaining 2 films Jackie Brown & Death Proof.
Never seen death proof but Jackie Brown is worth the watch!
Spaghetti Westerns were actually some of the best westerns, Clint Eastwood was in alot of them and they inspired lots of Quentins style and films, Django Unchained wouldnt exist if the classic Spaghetti western "Django" wasnt made.
Also, cant remember if you mentioned it, but Sharon Tate was a real actress who, while pregnant, along with her friends were sadly killed by the 3 Manson members that Cliff killed
1969, when Tate died is considered the death of the golden age of Hollywood and this is Quentins like love letter to that time and his fanfic of what he would want to have happened instead of what really, sadly and tragically occurred
This is one of my all-time favorite movie endings 🥹 It was very moving to see a happy, alternate history ending for Sharon Tate & her friends than what actually transpired IRL.
Don't sell yourself short at 5:25. You hit it right on the nose! That was a good mention on how 1969 looks.
When I first saw Scream 5, I didn’t even realize that the actress that played Amber(Mikey Madison) also played the crazy girl that got mauled by the dog and set on fire with a flame thrower. When I first saw Scream 5 in theaters the scene where Amber was lit on fire reminded me of that scene from “Once Upon A Time In…Hollywood” and then like a day later I find out it was literally the same actress, so that was the second time her character got burnt to a crisp 😂😂.
Welcome to the Scream multiverse where Scream 2’s Mickey (Timothy Olyphant) & Lois (Rebecca Gayheart) and Scream 5’s Amber (Mikey Madison) coexist in 1969’s Hollywood 😏😏😏
The fact that the girl who get brutally burned by the DiCaprio was savagely burned on scream 2022 too by Courtney cox 😭😭
Please don't skip Jackie Brown. It's not only my favorite Tarantino film, but it's in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. It's not popular because it's very dialogue heavy and it's the film that followed Quentin's most well renowned film, Pulp Fiction, so it had a lot to live up to. But I'm just the type of person that enjoys characters sitting down and just having a conversation. Especially when the dialogue is so well written and Tarantino is the absolute master when it comes to film dialogue. I hope you consider filming a reaction to it or just watching it yourself because I think it's an excellent film.
will def do a vid on it!
@@mattyreactsyou could honestly skip Death Proof, unless you want the complete Tarantino experience. It's widely regarded as his worst film and even Quentin claims it's his worst
Every time I see that a young person is going to react to this film, I hope that they will get at least a fraction of the many, many references that are packed into it. Not the least of which being a familiarity with Sharon Tate and the Manson family.
If Clint Eastwood hadn't gone to Italy in the late 60's to make westerns we wouldn't have A fistfull of dollars or The good, The bad and the Ugly and he wouldn't be the star he is today.
Quentin released an extended edition of the movie as a novel last year. I’ve been taking my time reading it since then but I’m a few chapters away from being done.
Nominated for 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Original Screenplay, & Best Cinematography, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood went on to win 2 Oscars: Best Supporting Actor (Brad Pitt) & Best Production Design. The film also became Quentin’s 2nd-highest-grossing movie at the box office behind Django Unchained with $374.6 million.
29:29 No coming back for one last scare this time 🔥😏😭
there is anecdotal proof that bruce lee would challenge and humiliate stunt men in physical fights as he disdained them for some reason. that scene was meant to show not just how arrogant bruce lee allegedly was but how strong capable and skilled cliff is as a fighter (which adds to how satisfying the last scene is where cliff defeats the manson family so easily, the big bad meets Big Bad). This story and plot is much more interesting when you understand that there is a running tension throughout the movie and when you are informed on how these are sharon tate’s imagined last days of her life. This isnt a simple story of two friends in hollywood, this is a revenge film and a rewriting of history. Also Rick was especially dickish to the hippies being outside his home bc most everyone at the time hated hippies and thought they were dirty lazy do nothings. All during the movie and the scenes of sharen tate, you’re meant to wonder and fear when the end is near. it’s got great world building and like Dazed and Confused, it just enjoys setting up the 70s and living in that time, sitting in that era and not rushing the plot.
I think that there is a lot of Unreliable Narrator in Cliff's view of Bruce - it's the way he remembers the fight going down. When Bruce's family called Quentin out over his portrayal he could have put it down to interpreting the scene throught the character's memory, but instead Quentin doubled-down which did him no favours.
Why would he call her pumpkin puss? Because she's adorable! :D
I know, I know, that's the least interesting part of the reaction. But the scene is one of my favorite. Di Caprio had such a great chemistry with Julia Butters.
Yes that was indeed Joe Namath, who starred in a 70s movie called C.C. Rider, costarring the kitten with a whip herself, Ann Margaret.
I love this movie so I was happy to watch it again with you. I agree the setting, cinematography, and acting were top notch.
I wonder if you would have enjoyed the story more if you were familiar with Sharon Tate and Manson. For example, the whole scene at the ranch plays a lot more tensely if you realize these weren’t just any hippies.
I love that you put Kill Bill as your top Quentin movie 😍
Nominated for 10 Oscars including Best Picture but won for Best Production Design and Best Supporting Actor Brad Pitt.

I thought he was Adam Driver, when I saw it in theaters.
This film is Tarantino recreating the Hollywood of his youth... because he can. In fact, he was only about 6 years old in1969 when the Manson family murdered Sharon Tate and the others (and the LaBianca family the next night), but it would have been intensely covered by press and on TV the in the Los Angeles area. The murders must have had a profound effect on young Quentin. This movie got it out of his system.
The film is actually a retelling of what actually happened to actress Sharon Tate and others by Charles' Manson's cult. It must go over so many peoples heads for those not familiar. Also they did Bruce Lee dirty in this film I will never forgive Quentin lol.
Nice job Matty, thanks
What’s so fascinating is you can’t really tell if Leonardo DiCaprio is doing the acting as Caleb Dakota OR is it Rick Dalton that’s in character?!
Leonardo DiCaprio is an actor portraying a fictional character. That’s an actor playing a character on sat. 🫨🤩
I did not realize that was Austin Butler until you pointed that out and I've seen this movie 2 or 3 times
Pls do Jackie Brown😊
This is my favorite Tarantino movie.
I think this movie is by far, the best movie Tarantino ever made. It helps if you were alive in 1969 and can recall the Manson Family murders, Viet Nam, Woodstock and the social and cultural changes sweeping America. Hollywood was not insulated from the huge upheaval of the 60s and was itself, transformed. If only there had been a Cliff and a Rick living next door to Polanski and Sharon Tate, if only.
I’m sure you figured it out by now but this movie is a alternative story ending to the evil true story of what Charlie Manson and his “ family “ did to Sharon Tate an all the people in her house that night + a older married couple the next night, it would be nice if this is really how it went tho 🤦🏻♂️
Every Tarantino is essential
Jackie Brown is his best
YES!!!! You definitely should watch all of Quentin's movies!!!
Jackie Brown is Tarantino’s best.
Great reaction. 💓
Still patiently waiting for Saw 7 🙄🥺
Do you take requests?
Deathproof 🫡
Actors, not characters
They aren't that popular?
I’ve watched this movie countless of times and it’s definitely my favorite. I love the driving scenes, the sense of humor and comedy is hilarious. 🤩 😂 I love the ending it’s just full Quentin Tarantino, having fun with himself again. Personally Django for me is his best written movie. 🫡😤🔥
Tarantino's final film should be Scream 7!!
Stop. Forever
