WHY betting companies poison football

  • Gambling and football have become inseparable as betting companies increase their presence in Europe’s top leagues. And people are paying with their lives. Fans are bombarded by adverts on shirts, stadiums, press conferences and TV. The relentless ads target those most vulnerable and even children are being pulled into the murky world of betting. This is how gambling is poisoning the beautiful game.

I hate gambling because when the team you're betting on wins you're just happy because you won money, not because you love the club. It creates an artificial feeling of happiness when there is no emotional connection with a team or a player.

That's basically all Professional sports now not just football.
Honestly they are times especially when it comes to football that I feel I lack the enthusiasm to be a fan any longer because it dose feel all about money & greed now they see us all as cash cows now not fans any longer.
I would say personally I am slowly drifting away from football.
I have not watched anything to do with this current Would Cup as I feel it is the most financially corrupt
World Cup in the history of the game so far.
We will see what this new
      European Super League brings
if they win there legal battle at the very end of January after all the arguments for & against are herd
hopefully long term it can bring positive change to the game that badly needs it including no more gambling sponsorship.
I think this European Super League will only last 3 seasons if it dose get off the ground for the 24/25 season
but hopefully it will force drastic change in U.E.F.A.'s thinking including Sponsorship.
      Keep Safe.

I'm from Tanzania, 90% of sponsors in Tanzania Premium League are betting companies. There is a positive impact of this companies, financially. But there's a lot negative impact outside the pitch. The number of teenager's and adult addicted with gambling is very high, even in rural areas because of strong marketing through this football teams.
I can just imagine how the situation will be like in next ten years. It would be worse!
I think government's should come up with more regulations, instead of only looking the benefits they got through tax from this companies.

    The Guardian
8 million people are drinking so much alcohol in England that it's harmful to their health.
358,000 admissions to hospital were due to alcohol in England in 2020.
They tried banning alcohol in the US during prohibition and it resulted in people drinking even more in illegal establishments run by gangsters.
Making gambling illegal won't solve the problem, it will make it worse because people will gamble in unregulated casinos and lose everything.

@E. T. The Extra Terristrial This video doesn't question the legality of betting per se, just the omnipresence of advertising for it. So to stick with your comparison: More alcohol advertising also means more alcohol consumption. A large US study found that "underage drinkers who didn't see any alcohol ads drank about 14 drinks per month. That number rose to 33 drinks per month for the young people who had seen what amounts to an average amount of alcohol advertising."

Gambling by definition is about probability. If there's a whole bunch of people losing money in order for the bookie to make its profit because gambling is a losing game, there's no sugarcoating. The problem is gambling and the industry, it's not responsability or whatever.

    • @markchapman2933

You are right Leo, "gambling by definition is about probability" so for most punters it will be "a losing game". But being about "probability" also means some punters (who are good at evaluating their knowledge into percentage chance) will make an overall profit. So for that group it is a winning game. A group bigger than many anti-gambling people believe.

I only ever use the free bets that companies give out, and I always lose. That's how I know not to bet my own money. I know people don't have that level of self control but that isn't anybody else's fault, people need to take responsibility for their own actions. Alcohol and fast food cause far greater health problems and they're still allowed to advertise in and around football. Once you start banning specific industries you're going down a very slippery slope with the obvious exception of cigarettes which isn't safe at any level to anybody, which is in contrast to other things like fast food, gambling, alcohol, sugary drinks etc. which can all be enjoyed with sensible moderation. Of course some people will always take anything too far but that doesn't mean the rest of us should be deprived of a good betting promotion or seeing an advert for Coca Cola just because a small minority of people have zero self control.

Gambling are for losers. The best way to make money is investing it like i do, stocks, shares, crypto, bonds and even properties. Gambling is simply a foolish way of losing money rather than making a bulk of quick cash. THINK, BOYS!

Investing" in "stocks, shares crypto bonds, and even properties" is a gamble, ie their value can go down as well as up. Likewise, "gambling on sports can be an "investment". if the punter is able to evaluate his / her knowledge into percentage chances / odds better than the betting market. The problem many of us "investors" making an overall profit have is that we cannot get on! Bookmakers either close our accounts, or severely limit them so much they'd just as well be closed.

    • @Red-Red-Red-Red
      @Red-Red-Red-Red หลายเดือนก่อน

@markchapman2933 investing in stocks and crypto are less risky because you dont lose your money in the same way as making a one way bet where you part fully away with your money until the outcome, based on the typical probability associated with that bet, turns in your favour. Gambling on lottery tickets and in casinos requires short term luck and odds stacked in your favour. When you lose 5% of an asset in a stock, you can still sell the asset and recoup that money. You cannot do that when submitting a lottery ticket, or placing a bet.

Rule 1: The house always wins.

    • @markchapman2933
      @markchapman2933 หลายเดือนก่อน

"House"? It is possible to card count and win at the casino. But this is about football. The House always wins because the vast majority of casino gamblers are not card counters. There are a few individual Casino gamblers who make a profit.
...And similarly with Sports Betting. Nobody (not even the bookmaker) knows for definite what the fair odds are. If the betting market BELIEVES something has a fair 25% 3/1 (4.0) chance of winning, the bookmaker adds his profit margin and instead offers not 3/1 but 11/4. (3.75). However, if the punter BELIEVES it has a 30% chance... A 30% strike rate of level stakes on his / her 11/4 bets would show a good profit. So 11/4 would be a good bet in this case. The "Mathematics Of Betting" means every price can be converted to a percentage chance, even something @ 50/1 (51.0) would be worth a bet if the punter BELIEVES it has just a 3% chance of winning.
The vast majority of punters betting on Sports will make a loss.
But those with a good knowledge of the sport who (even more importantly) are better than the market at evaluating that knowledge into percentage chance / odds DO make an overall profit.
The problem many of us have with bookmakers is getting on. Bookmakers either close or severely limit the money we can put on, they just as well be closed.

@@professor7098 Over many years I've noticed two things that make a difference more than anything else when it comes to players missing simple chances. Pressure allied with lack of confidence. We've seen with Man City only in the past few weeks how one loss leads to another and one miss leads to another in front of goal. Missing simple chances they were putting away before the losing run started. Anyone betting on football must take these two massively important things into consideration. Otherwise they'll back the wrong selections and / or come to the wrong conclusion as to why. It is daft to think Man City are deliberately missing simple chances when so much is at stake.

Of course the ads are linked to causing addiction... If you advertise and sell drugs like they do gambling, then guess what...? People are going to buy and get addicted. Some will use in moderation and others in excess... See what I did there? They are the inhibitors of the problem...

    Alan Shields
    Hamilton
    South Lanarkshire
    Scotland.
In the late 80's & from the 90's in to the early 00's alcohol advertising was the problem in football now it's gambling company advertising that is the problem buy banning
betting advertising all you will do is shift the problem the next big problem for football in particular will we crypto currency buying witch is really just a different form of gambling.
So all we are doing is shifting from one addiction to another in terms of Sponsorship.
What football needs is a different way of operating a salary cap & a
Collective bargaining agreement this would all help put a cap on spending in football as clubs would have a limit to how much & also how little they can spend if they failed to stick within the strict perimeters of this the over spend would hit the club that over spent with a transfer embargo for one transfer window & a fine to be spent equally between member clubs & the same would happen if a club did not meet the salary cap floor minimum amount.
This would mean that clubs would no longer require any form of sponsorship & if they carried on with sponsorship after this that would be telling fans straight that they member clubs see there fan as a cash cow & that it's all about business & not football any longer.
If it can work for The N.F.L. it can work in football if people are willing to let it work.
If people are not willing to try this
Football will simply die at some point from to much greed.
