- In this video series I am going to implement and configure networking with Windows Server 2016. In the third video from the series we are going to implement DNS. DNS is a core name resolution service required by every MS Active Directory domain. Proper DNS configuration is crucial for different services and applications to work.

@@DamianCaelenTM He doesn't mean literal ads. Adblock won't automatically remove these. You have to manually configure adblocker to remove them, like I have.

i created A record for mail and cleared dns cache ( ipconfig /flushdns) and give dns ip address , still cannot ping to mail

So quick question, I have installed the DNS server and zones, currently things are working BUT, not the way they really should be, as I get errors saying HOST ip address can not be found even though I run nslookup and it shows me there. I created seperate zones, mail zone, autodiscover zone, and local name zone, but and big but, domain name external lookup is .ca that is not in the zones.

I was today years old, where I understood, what is the difference between forward and reverse lookup.
If you use paint and give a demo,it is easier for all.

I'm trying to connect to mine but when ping I get time out. I'm using it virtual box with Nat network but works when I use bridged so it must be my router. I could not get it to sorted so would like to configure it not sure if I've done anything wrong.
Is setting up a DNS server in windows server means creating a directory of IP and equivalent domain name from scratch? or just pointing to an existing DNS in cloud?
join using ".\" or "@", example: ".\cli01" and "@cli01", calls the abbreviated domain ? which one does that? which record do I add ? orbigado

Hi Rajkumar and thank you for the support. At the moment I am concentrating on the MCSA portion, but will definitely look into System Center in the future. Cloud Computing is a thing I am learning at the moment and will be discussed in the future as well.
I have configured some host records in my DNS server and I had them working for only a short time. Now from a PC on the network, it tells me the host cannot be found when I try and ping. I'm thinking it is because the TTL on the records is set to 1 hour, but I'm not really sure..

I think the secondry option at 7:40 is that externally related DNS issue which is purely handled by ISP - no replication here?

try to ping the number as well. if you get a reply with it, fix DNS, if you don't fix your network.
What's the benefit of having DNS running from a windows server, rather than the router?
vacantplanet I’m not sure if you can run a DNS server on a router. You may be referring to which DNS server your router points too. If you meant DHCP you can do that on both.
