In the case of Contreras and the compensatory draft pick they got in return, I'd say in an unforeseen way they have benefitted greatly from letting him leave. As a fan of the rival Cardinals, I wish the Cubs had committed to Contreras to keep StL from making the boneheaded move of picking him up. That ill-advised contract has really hamstrung the Cardinals for the next 4 years. The Cubs should be glad that Wilson ended up with StL and gummed up the works. Don't get me wrong, I think Wilson seems like a decent guy and passionate player, but he's only blocking better players in the catcher and DH spot.

Matt chapman doesnt make the most sense. We dont even have room for Bellinger and almost everyone on the 40 man has some value. Cubs want morel to play 3rd, bench is already crowded. I heard rumors of a trade. If the cubs sign Chapman i expect Madrigal and Mastrobouni to be shipped.

While it may not lead us to a World Series (as much as I want it to), we still seem like a solid team with our current prospects, new manager, and Bellinger being signed back. You are severely underestimating them. They will most likely be 10-15 games above 500. They did a complete turnaround the last half of the season.

The curve is projected to win the eastern division in double a and the Indians are improving as well. But we're letting solid vets go and we need players that are willing to pass the torch to some of these younger guys. We don't have to be good, we just need to clinch a wild card spot.

Usually this channel makes good videos. Stroman to Imanaga is a downgrade, (NPB watcher, speaks int. Japanese). Bellinger is a re-sign. Maybe Neris is an improvement, but they basically maintained the status quo for next year and said run it back with a lesser rotation.
You discount the fact that we could see another step up from Steele, Taillon played a lot worse than he usually does (and he’s developing a new pitch to add to his arsenal). I don’t see how Imanaga’s native language has any affect on his quality as a pitcher. On the offensive side, you got Morel and Seiya expected to take another step forward, PCA should be up soon (and PCA >>> Mervis, Mancini, Hosmer from last year). Dansby underperformed his usual production, so we could see a bounce back. Of course, none of this is guaranteed but context definitely matters. It isn’t so simple as “well, we have the same players so it’ll be the same result”
