The NL Central is gonna be the most unpredictable division this year, I think all except the Pirates are gonna be within reach of the division. Right now I’d guess Cubs at 86 wins, Brewers at 84 (just narrowly missing WC), Cardinals 81, Reds 79, and Pirates 70.

In the case of Contreras and the compensatory draft pick they got in return, I'd say in an unforeseen way they have benefitted greatly from letting him leave. As a fan of the rival Cardinals, I wish the Cubs had committed to Contreras to keep StL from making the boneheaded move of picking him up. That ill-advised contract has really hamstrung the Cardinals for the next 4 years. The Cubs should be glad that Wilson ended up with StL and gummed up the works. Don't get me wrong, I think Wilson seems like a decent guy and passionate player, but he's only blocking better players in the catcher and DH spot.

You discount the fact that we could see another step up from Steele, Taillon played a lot worse than he usually does (and he’s developing a new pitch to add to his arsenal). I don’t see how Imanaga’s native language has any affect on his quality as a pitcher.
On the offensive side, you got Morel and Seiya expected to take another step forward, PCA should be up soon (and PCA >>> Mervis, Mancini, Hosmer from last year). Dansby underperformed his usual production, so we could see a bounce back. Of course, none of this is guaranteed but context definitely matters.
