    Mighty slick! You answered the major concern of how to make the saw top level. But it seems to me that you made the flip top more complex than it needed to be. Could have used a lot less components. Great build either way and excellent idea! Thanks

    The difference between UK workshop channel and a US equivalent. I’m in the UK and I much prefer this realistic,for most of us scenario. There is no 5ft wide thicknesses planer, every Stupidly priced Festool product you could think of, a bandsaw that could cut a ten foot wide slice of oak in half, a table saw that you could host the last supper at and a workshop the size of half a basket ball court........oh, and the obligatory muscled up pick up truck just out of shot. Anyway, like the build mate 👍🏻

      Hehe thank you. Planning to continue making videos for guys like us. With a small shed or garage workshops 👍

    Incredible build, thanks for sharing. I'm thinking because the lower section cant be used as storage, you could use the cavity box to store items like blades, fence attachments and so on, clipped down to avoid spilling out on the flip motion. Also perhaps if instead of two latches, you have sliding bolt system.
    Looking forward to building one myself. Much appreciated.

      @@CasualDIY hey I know this post was a year ago however I love your design and I’m currently building it as I type. But I’m running into a problem. The original board that you attached the pipe and support beams to first, was what side? The side that the mitre saw is attached to or the flush side? Or neither?

    The cam over leaver locking clams are fine , (all be it a little small ) is suitable for keeping the left and right bench top movements in check, but in addition I would add two side sliding pin bolts from the fixed bench portion into the flip box to help carry the vertical loans.

    Excellent work. It's a very good design, I am in the process of making something similar and will adapt your design. I have an existing bench I made ages ago with a much thicker top The latches you are using seem to work well but I might be inclined to simply use sliding bolts instead of the catches. They would be more robust I think. But once again great work.

    Great video.
    As a matter of interest, the amount you had to raise up the saw, was that how much you lowered the pipe in the initial correction? I only ask because when you are done, it looks like your part one build calculations were actually correct.
    I've been watching videos on different designs fir this type of flip table and yours is remarkably simple and very effective. Thanks for sharing.

    A lot of people beat builds like this up but can work better for some of us. Way to get a power tool out of the way fast and quick without having to lift my much heavier larger miter saw. A 12 inch sliding compound miter saw enough weight to put your back or shoulder something out moving it a short distance just to gain a work bench to assemble things. I would add some laminate on mine. Being taller every miter saw stand sold sits too low for me my back aches just thinking about using one store bought

    Liked the flip top work bench, have a question or 2, how do you get on with longer lengths of wood, using the miter saw, looked a bit cramped for space, also which pocket screw jig were you using? As I’ve been looking at them, everyone seems Kreg crazy but for me the plastic is an issue, I’m not a lover of plastic as a working jig, has a tendency of getting brittle with age.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I'm limited in the workshop but if I need longer lengths then I pull the whole bench to the middle of the workshop. I use a Katsu jig. Not the best but more than half the price of Kreg

    Thomas, how deep is your workbench top. It only looks like a standard unit, 600mm deep, but ive measured my saw, and closed down the saw is 760mm long, so open would be substantially longer, so wont fit in a cabinet 600mm deep. Hope this mskes sense.

    • @CasualDIY

      It's 76.5cm deep👍 so it's quite big

    • @HOMEAROMAS

      @@CasualDIY Thanks for replying. I thought you had the same saw as me, but you must have a smaller one, as my saw is as big as your work bench when it's closed down, and as it's got a 300mm reach, I'm going to assume it's a meter long when fully open, which is way too big to have as a worktop. I'm trying to build mine into a 12ft x 10ft shed, so the units would be fixed. Anyway, I'd like to say I'm enjoying the build projects you have on the channel, keep them coming. Thanks, Jason

    Hi Tomasz, I'm going to build a similar bench and your video is going to be very helpful, thanks. Can I ask, what blade size is your mitre saw and what are the dimensions of the section that flips? I have a small mitre saw (Evolution 210mm) and I'm wondering if I should make a flip top that will accommodate a 255mm saw in the future if I should want to go bigger?

    Hey Thomas, what size pipe did you use? And did you use 1x2’s to support it? Also when figuring out the width of the flip top for you miter, did you just measure the width of your miter saw and add like 3 inches to each side?

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, I think the pipe was 3cm in diameter. The pipe in the flip top is secured with 2x1 cut to size (height) of the pipe. And the pipe sits on the bench on cut outs from 18mm plywood. With regards the width of the flip top, exactly as you said. I measured my mitre saw and added a bit on each side.

    • @robcheetham4370
      @robcheetham4370 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CasualDIY just and extra question about the pipe. Ive built my framing. Its bigger than yours but same design. The width of the the mitre saw box is 78cm. The total length of pipe i need is 93cm. Ive seen a 35MM with 2mm wall ERW steel tube but im unsure if it will be strong enough to hold the weight. My saw is 23.1kg on its own so will looking at around about 40kg to be safe when having stuff on top of bench from time to time. Do youn think it will be strong enough or should I go bigger or mayby get a 35mm solid steel rod? Thanks

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robcheetham4370 should be fine, you can add extra block in the middle that the pipe will go through as additional support to prevent any potential bending. But it should be fine

    • @robcheetham4370
      @robcheetham4370 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hey I know this post was a year ago however I love your design and I’m currently building it as I type. But I’m running into a problem. The original board that you attached the pipe and support beams to first, was what side? The side that the mitre saw is attached to or the flush side? Or neither?

    Do you need a mitre saw when you have a decent table saw like evolution rage 5s? I am asking in general about your overall experience.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say yes, it's designed for different jobs. But I guess you can use your table saw to do the same job it's just less convenient 👍 if you got a long 2x4 it's safer to cut it to size on a mitre saw. In a mitre saw you will also be able to make mitre and bevel cuts where on a table saw that would be very difficult or impossible.

    • @Boryn
      @Boryn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CasualDIY I think I am with you. While working with long pieces of wood you may be able to do a bevel cut on the long edge but pretty impossible to do it on the short one.
