this would be very usefull in a medical situation to analyze injuries. of course it would be much more complex, but thats the first thing that came to my mind, or mabye to analyze drug bottles and give all information, about alergies, conflicting meds, purposes, health threats, etc.... now that would be so awesome!
They said that the optical camera inside the table reads the data from the text on the bottom on the glass. That's how it tells what is inside the cup.
I'm with MTM: it's the same argument I have with the projects delivered by Mindstorm. Very impressive in Quantum of Solace, but the reality is somewhat more pedestrian. Delivering a quality multi-touch experience demands a certain commitment to engineering. Either you have the skills or you don't.
Exactly, people like him are the kind of people who don't try new things, who don't see the potential in products. Things like this table and similar products like Microsoft Pixelsense can be used for so much more, like interactive signage that you can hold your phone up to and use NFC to grab information, or wallmounted in a hospital showing scans and bio data, or even like this with info of whatever you place on it with the option of ordering a refill.
Back to the roots! This project was very important in the history of our company, and kick-started what we are today. Our passion for the creation of beautiful user-experiences is as big as ever, and we'd love to discuss your needs. Drop us a line at atracsys-interactive.com and ask for a callback!
Not a computer chip, just some black and white cubic pattern that the table sees, think of the possibilities, like placing your phone down and sharing pictures on the large screen estate, better than trying to show a group of people on your phone's 4"-5" screen. Or say you're in a bar and you want some games, everyone around the table can join in. Instead of calling something dumb think about the potential next time.
This will be everywhere in the future pretty much a dlp of displays so wether anyone argues or not this is cheap technology but entertains for people sitting at a dinner table at a restaurant while maybe ordering food that way via WiFi from table straight to cook so many possibilitys depending where used
no not really, you can use it in bars, you see a women finished here drink you want to buy a new one for her (cuz she is hot looking)look at the table says what kind of drink OR can work with types of food, also not only displays what it is but what it can contain in that items....OMG THIS IS AN AWESOME PRODUCT!
Would you buy an 18 wheeler truck? No because you have no use for it, whereas a company uses it for logistics. Same here, some people may love to have a coffee table like this one day in their lounge but there's uses in retail spaces, bars and hotel lobbies. Everything has a market, just because you wouldn't buy it doesn't make it stupid, there's lots of things that aren't for me but I don't go around telling others those things are crap.
ooo I wouldn't want to pay that bill when that coffee gets spilled trying to touch a tab :S only joking but this looks like a serious competitor to the Microsoft Surface and reminds me a lot of the touch surfaces that were in James Bond Quantum Of Solace..heck it could've been the same product seen as how much Sony product placement there was in that film!
not sure what you are trying to say but you are definitely talking out of your rear. projection? wtf? Maybe you are just not used to touchscreens in general....
and you're sitting here on youtube like the rest of us making a difference for those who can't help themselves right? because that's what youtube comments do. they help people
This actually made me LOL. I'm sorry, this is a technology demo. You can't ask people to stop trying to innovate, this exact system that you're complaining about has medical applications as well. Sometimes a demo is just a demo...
ooops, sorry took me a while to get it but believe me, trying to punish down solutions from competitors isn't working out anymore in 09. Seems like you q-bus guys are struggling a bit with your own products... epic guerilla marketing fail!
Only coffee shop owners would buy this. But then again whats the use... All it does is tell people semi intresting facts about coffee when the bartender or waiter could easily tell them the same thing.
Innovation does not make structural economic disparity less despicable. That person didn't complain about the table. They Juxtaposed the frivolity of this product with the plight of the economically oppressed who have not been allowed the opportunity to participate in what you propose to be "innovation". If this is innovation, it is blind. Innovation should be focused on worth while endeavors and any "treatment's" you allude to will not be enjoyed by the disparate, so whats your point? LOL? Meh.
This stupid giant hypertecno touch-table just for telling 5 line of text about the drink we are drinking? This is sick! Just give a paper depliant with the drink!

I saw one of these used at the EMP in Seattle.

@xin0 Depends a lot on the resources required/cost whether it's a waste or not. If it was cheap and easily accessible, it wouldn't be considered so.

i knew it couldn't be too good to be true

Just like the glass wall system used on Hawaii-Five-0
and 4 years later this technology is still no where near mainstream
how do this thing recognize what's in the cup?
this would be more useful if its in an office meeting and you can just plug in a usb and go around show everyone your files
The technology looks similar to Microsoft surface, we thought the same thing. ;)
'and then the question is..' will it blend?!
I saw something like this in the avengers!
ooo I wouldn't want to pay that bill when that coffee gets spilled trying to touch a tab :S

What happens when they spill the coffee all over the table?
so they r selling the coffee or the table ???
not sure what you are trying to say but you are definitely talking out of your rear. projection? wtf?

this table is for sale or not?
and you're sitting here on youtube like the rest of us making a difference for those who can't help themselves right? because that's what youtube comments do. they help people
very true, yours are much better! :D
Dude, mortality rate in Brazil is lower than in the US.
i dont want other people to know what i'm drinking all the time. i'm an introvert. i need my privacy.
What if you spill?
This actually made me LOL. I'm sorry, this is a technology demo. You can't ask people to stop trying to innovate, this exact system that you're complaining about has medical applications as well. Sometimes a demo is just a demo...
is it rip off of msft surfacce?
Or maybe he is used to them.
Which is why he doesn't use them.
Don't confuse ignorance with disdain: they're two separate things.
Its dark. You place a cup of coffee on your table. "MY EYES!!"
That's Microsoft Surface... no question about it.
In Africa and Brazil millions of people are dying every day meanwhile we are making fucking coffee tables
now... do something better with this. Like each cup, or drink, whatever, has an nfc tag in the bottom of it, then it would take off better.
i spend 10-20 minute to read on the coffee that i am ordering
Nothing , it say Unknown
Is Coke in it??
till the time you will drink it
it will be cold
like the stuff inside nespresso alumium shitty capsules is coffee....yeah right
Wonderful piece of coffee??? : l
Microsoft surface copy. -_-
and... its a bit lagger... not so snappy like the surface... xD
it's better for watching TV
i rather ask the waiter and Google it than buying a table cost .... this much !!
ok fair enough :)
Macs in a nutshell.
What a nonsense. Its cool to have these tables in café's tho

co je to za pcovinu
or just drink it!
If they didn't make the coffee table, how would that have helped the africans?
It hasn´t any sense here... There are millions of people dying every day meanwhile you´re typing this commentary...
then, sit at a normal table,, or hold it :)

Only coffee shop owners would buy this.

@HaloHamstur Just like iPhone
Complete ripoff of the Microsoft Surface.

Well there are obviously other applications for this, that are useful, but this is pretty dumb.
Buy that shit just because it shows info about coffee ?
IT'S A HUGE TOTALLY NOT PORTABLE IPAD !!
Are you serious? This was a giant waste of thousands of dollars!
This stupid giant hypertecno touch-table just for telling 5 line of text about the drink we are drinking? This is sick!
Just give a paper depliant with the drink!
@jawwad594 she's not hot!!
