Cedric's vocals were so on point here. I forgot that during the Noct tour he was so controlled. A nice thing to hear after how fucked his voice was for the like 5 years prior.
Think he just bit the bullet that his high vocal days were coming to an end. He sings primarily in mixed voice above or falsetto above A4, tried less to hit notes with fullness and focused on key. Think it was a mature choice, but I will certainly miss him screeching like an eagle. It’s no surprise his voice has declined over the years, that dude used to abuse his cords for fun.

One day brother, I have no doubt and it's going to be worth it. I would fight anyone who claims to love this band MORE than me (equals good though) but this machine needs to recharge for a few more years at least. Luckily whilst TMV was going thru phase 1, the ATDI machine was charging up, and is now unleashed upon us. and it is fucking awesome. I'm Impressed so much how they kept the same 'Drive-In' emotion/energy, and yet it also feels like a brand new machine. (especially on that 3 track ep)... And since i'm playing fortune teller, I'd put $$$ on Theodore being there for phase 2 of TMV
@@anamorphicmind These 2 new songs are with Eva Gardner on Bass. Juan probably no longer in the band this time around, Omar stated in a podcast that Juan was a big reason for their breakup, calling him a sociopath
This was the first Mars Volta album I was excited about since Amputechture. I was so excited to see them on this tour and they broke up before they toured the US. Bummer. Got to see them twice on the FTM tour and once on the Deloused tour.
This album was very well written, and very very different than what the band had done before, I missed Omar's crazy signature guitar sound on it though (a sound probably most prominent on deloused and bedlam, even though frances is my favorite), but HE'S the one who said he chose to strip down the guitar parts in favor of a more electronica style composition. And it was really good, even if it wasn't "the mars volta". But for whatever reason Omar got jaded or became unhappy, he was the same way playing ATDI songs so I really doubt it had to do with him disliking how nocturniquet turned out specifically. This actually looks more like he's having a midlife crisis and running off to join a younger band in an attempt to recapture old feelings by reinventing himself as a different kind of musician (in this case a simpler one), because obviously he wasn't very nostalgic about ATDI, which probably has to do with his inability to really repeat himself. But I could be wrong.
+Ryan Utterback (Polyrhythem) my friend, who knows his music but is not a TMV fan as such,Rates this as their best work in terms of composition and Cedrics use of his voice.Have to agree its up there with the debut record!

All of us would be extremely hapy to see the whole thing. You propably allready have this in mind anyway but I beg of you - if you have it please let everyone see it.
Cedric is such and ass tho, he always talk shit about the bands he was before the new one, when he was on Mars he talked shit about at the drive-in, when he was in antemasque he talked shit about Volta, I told him he always do that and blocked me on Twitter lol is not like he is with different people in the band is always the same guys
I read somewhere online that in their last album he was going to stop dictating the band. He would let them collaborate more and give the band more power and input. I sometimes think that was a big mistake... Deantoni seemed like he wanted to do his "technoself" stuff there. Kinda if he really influenced Omar to "lighten up". Obviously I'm assuming. But Omar was not the same anymore. He seemed defeated
it is clear to me here they were not happy doing this anymore.. see juan alderete sayin' no to omar at the end of the song? To me there was something dead with mars volta when Jon Theodore left the band. After that it was cool again with thomas Pridgen. But when Thomas left the band it was a really bad news to me. The fact is mars Volta spirits can't exist without a peacefull collaboration between omar and a damn world class drummer. This is the musically fundamental on what they were trying to do. THen when Ikey Owen died himself, it was.. the absolute end. They can reunite in a few years and call it mars volta but the vibe will never be the same. All we have is five good studio albums, live videos, interviews, bass tabs, brilliant lyrics, good looking t-shirts, omar's gtr licks, omar's movies, juan alderete critics on new bass pedals, Thomas pridgen drum clincs, jon's drumming on the music of the husband of Brody Dalle, etc,.
Yeah, it's the Mars fucking Volta, it's been years since first EP and I'm still so addicted to their stuff. This is obviously related to the fact that I was in my teens years when De-Loused came etc. I miss them a lot. And yes, John, c'mon, he's got that fucking vibe, that afro-cuban feeling, with Juan they were perfect rhythm section. I sometimes watch John's solos during QOTSA gigs, that vibe man, that vibe! Ikey, great musician, that sound and understanding he had with both Omar and Cedric, so fucking sad.

He’s a pretty solid drummer in my opinion. I loved the drums on this album. A lot of people would say the drums were overplayed in the beginning of the TMV discography, but these drums are undoubtedly tasteful and well played.
Wow, I respectfully disagree. This guy is one of the most inspiring and intense drummers I’ve seen. Check out about a minute of this performance, here’s the link th-cam.com/video/AWQTLs00VzU/w-d-xo.html the build-up from 3:30 to about 4:35 (on the link I gave) is so intense it sounds like he is sonically breaking up the earth and stone around him and suspending it in the air. He even pulls his shirt over his head, in my mind, to possibly protect himself from broken bits of cymbals and things flying at him. Just a guess there, but goddamn that is intensity.
