To be fair, rereading the chapters isn't nearly as bad. Sure, the boat chapters still aren't nearly as good as Golden Age and Early Conviction, but when you're not reading it at 2 chapters every year, it's still a good read imo.

That was one of my most favourite. To see Guts that young and kind of innocent in more simple times, yet the complexity behind it, him just being confused.

I sometimes see comments from people that think the best of Berserk is fighting, and they can't wait for XYZ battle, but to me the inward looking chapters where everything slows down are what stick with me the longest.
The Japanese are an expressive people, and quite literate, too. There are a lot of philosophies and poignant opinions in manga and anime, and I consider Berserk, Great Teacher Onizuka and Akira the best at expressing those philosophies and opinions.

Chapters like this make my hatred for Griffith grow and showcase why Griffith is one of the best villains and why Guts is one of the best protagonists in any media, period. Miura was a master at capturing trauma in multiple ways, how different people cope with it, and how to come to terms with it. You’ll never be able to forget it, those scars and wounds will stay with you forever. But you can still make the best of it and keep moving forward. You’ll never get back the things you lost. But you’ll always be able to find and create something new.
I just hope Guts gets a more-than-deserved happy ending when/if the series end. He's suffered enough and things will likely get far worse before they get better...
I’ve always thought of Guts like an inverse Odin. He lost his eye to gain knowledge of the true nature of the world, but that knowledge destroyed him. His missing eye is a symbol of that moment of dark revelation. He bears something that no other human, save Caska, bears, and it means he lives between two worlds. He’s Odin in the world of Lovecraft’s great old ones.
Odin seeks to know the end of the world at any cost in order to stop fate from destroying everything he has, even if he knows that he will die in the end. And he dies by being consumed by the wolf fenrir. Guts seeks the knowledge to destroy the godhand at any cost in order to stop fate from destroying him and casca, even if he might die by the end and be consumed by his inner wolf. The wolf is then slain by Vidar, Odins son. Yea, I see some similarities to haha

The panel where Guts it’s sitting, full of bandages, on the edge of the ship with the moon in the background it’s, in my opinion, the best one in all of Berserk. A shot full of melancholy.
I like the effort in these videos, the music, the tone of Spired’s voice and the context of the manga is just nostalgic like how reading Berserk first was. The piano in the back helps convey they message and it’s so beautiful.
Honestly the whole bit with the arm and how things are never going to go back to the way they were, at least not exactly, stuck with me. Probably some personal relatability, idk if everybody with major scars (physical or otherwise) relates as much as I did, but there's that unavoidable fact that no matter how much you try to cover it up or mitigate how prominent it is, it's there, and you're not going back to the way you were. There seems to be this initial feeling you get, both as an audience and as a person personally experiencing something like it, that it can be fixed and go back to the way things were, and this whole roller coaster of grief until you finally accept that it won't.
Guts deserves to be happy... He always it's the shield, he is destroyed inside, he keeps fighting and fighting... His progression and personality is so well made, he doesn't stop of fighting with his mind, with this world... How he holds casca, he truly loves her.
That time when skull knight told guts he either could continue to fight for revenge or save casca but not both reminds me of this. His mechanical arm assists him in battle, gripping his sword, using the canon and bow, but unable to save casca from her descent.
Love these deep dives into chapters. There is so much detail put in them that even I have to admit I read too fast to appreciate them. Look forward to more videos like this of Berserk. Cheers!

Well the recent arcs have less action and more development and lore. It's filled with internal dilemma and symbolism, in a way I'm glad that the story is not shaping up to a place where gutts only keeps killing apostles.

I have also have noticed the detailed emphasis on children and women on the battlefield seemed to bother Griffith and others a great deal, now guts with Farnese, sherike, the mermaid (most likely to command the sea animals alongside the Kushan sorcerer sea familiars). And the little dagger boy forgot his name. Also with help from unit commander ricket and Erica with thier weapons expertise swooping up salat and his guards. Great analysis as always. I have only a little diferent idea from yours. I honestly think that the panel of Guts looking to casca while his vision blurred was his right eye. I thought that it's beacuse of his darkness within him, His inner darkness, Beast of Darkness, saw Casca as a bad figure ... The Beast of Darkness always see Casca in a bad way as it always make Guts think and act brutal and violent towards Casca and in a way that Guts can be finally conquered by his inner darkness. And of course Guts my boy overpower him for now. I thought that Guts seeing casca in a blurred and dark vision is his right eye and his inner darkness. I think its a foreshadowing or a slight negative detail that makes us readers think that something bad is gonna happen. I just want Guts to be happy, guts suffered one hell of a man since a child. Miura please give Guts a peacful life at the end.
*you know what i just fucking realized* Casca had her own dream. What was gunna happen once griffith achived his dream? (when he didnt know the eclipse would happen ofc) *his* dream would change. Cascas wouldnt. Griffith wants to have his own kingdom, to rule it. Casca wants to be his sword. Point being. If grifiths dream ever changed, cascas wouldnt. Inherently this means they are two different dreams and they seek them on their own terms. So basically. Grifith was fucking lying through his teeth to work his way to telling the princess he wanted to marry her and guts and casca just walked up at the wrong fucking time. lol That or he was being moderately serious but was in the process of dealing with other emotions amd was sortof, halfway to changing this philosophy but not quite yet. Things got cut short to prevemt him from becoming too sympathetic and wind him down the path to the eclipse

Great analysis as always. I have only a little diferent idea from yours. I honestly think that the panel of Guts looking to casca while his vision blurred was his right eye. I thought that it's beacuse of his darkness within him, His inner darkness, Beast of Darkness, saw Casca as a bad figure ...
The Beast of Darkness always see Casca in a bad way as it always make Guts think and act brutal and violent towards Casca and in a way that Guts can be finally conquered by his inner darkness. And of course Guts my boy overpower him for now.
I thought that Guts seeing casca in a blurred and dark vision is his right eye and his inner darkness. I think its a foreshadowing or a slight negative detail that makes us readers think that something bad is gonna happen.
I just want Guts to be happy, guts suffered one hell of a man since a child. Miura please give Guts a peacful life at the end.

Casca had her own dream.
What was gunna happen once griffith achived his dream? (when he didnt know the eclipse would happen ofc) *his* dream would change. Cascas wouldnt. Griffith wants to have his own kingdom, to rule it. Casca wants to be his sword.
Point being. If grifiths dream ever changed, cascas wouldnt. Inherently this means they are two different dreams and they seek them on their own terms.
So basically. Grifith was fucking lying through his teeth to work his way to telling the princess he wanted to marry her and guts and casca just walked up at the wrong fucking time. lol
That or he was being moderately serious but was in the process of dealing with other emotions amd was sortof, halfway to changing this philosophy but not quite yet. Things got cut short to prevemt him from becoming too sympathetic and wind him down the path to the eclipse
