Probably the best Cavalry trilogy movies of all time! Unfortunately, the Hollywood version of the cavalry and how they looked was far from the real thing but.....very entertaining. How can you not like any John Wayne western?

Part of "Rio Grande" was based on the 5th US Cavalry Regiment's rescue of kidnapped girls taken to Mexico. The Officer Commanding(OC) was Brigadier General (Retired) R. J. MacKenzie AKA Slidell. He started using his mother's name after Confederate Ambassador (Uncle) John Slidell (1793- 1871) was taken off a limey flagged civilian ship by the USN.
Im Kickapoo, Comanche, Apache but respect to the American warriors the only men to beat us in battle. Marines, Cavalry, Raiders and Seals who can beat America? ✝️🇺🇸
To be fair ,we only beat you because we had an overwhelming force. Kill one and 10 more soldiers show up at the next fight. We were also technologically advanced and you couldn't catch up. You had to adapt by taking our weapons. And, many people do not realize there were many native American tribes and half of them didn't like the other half and were killing each other long before the white man showed up so it was easy for the US to get help from one tribe to defeat another tribe . In a fair fight, US probably would have lost.
Fort Apache, Arizona was built and manned by the 10th US Cavalry Regiment. Colonel Grierson, Officer Commanding (OC). John Wayne's "The Horse Soldiers" was based on one of his operations.
Col.Grierson's Civil War exploit " Grierson's Raid" (600 miles in 16 days through Confederate Lines from LaGrange Tennessee, to Baton Rouge, destroying Railroads, supplies, and avoiding Rebel Forces sent to stop him. Hollywood made another poor retelling with " The Horse Soldiers"...the real story would make a blockbuster, but not Hollywood ( no women, no soapy story, all action.)
