I like to throw the coin in question up in the air and smack it like I'm Babe Ruth with a wood bat to hear what kind of sound it makes. The last one sounded like "if you hit another tenants car one more time testing coins then you're out of here buddy..."
Did you ever sell it? Because I just found one a 1983 D brown copper cent mine is really beautiful to with a red oily type of reflection. I believe it’s possibly a high grade as well so I’m curious did you sell yours and how?
Amazing. I have a friend that recently found a bunch of large pennies from the early-mid 1800's and one pretty worn 1809 half cent, wondering if they are worth anything....
They are out there, and if you are hunting Wheaties; this is a year with all types of valuable varieties you want to search for; that being said, the more one develops an eye for the subtle key differences in a Copper and a Zinc penny; the more likely you will know when you see it, before you even go to weigh it- You will be bouncing it off your wood surface and listening for that high pitched ring... And trust me, you will know it is when you hear that sound!! I can tell you from experience, this year from hunting Lincoln Cents; and you will only find one of these; weather it be 1983, 82D small date, 1989, or a 90D....
I held a 1943 copper cent in my hand back around 1983. It was graded XF, mounted on a plaque and designated "finest known example" (at the time). The guy offered to sell it to me for $30,000, which is probably all it was worth at the time - I don't know, really. Since I couldn't afford to buy it, I never checked out the going price. This is when I first learned of the 1944 steel cents - the same thing happened as with the 43's, but in reverse. I've seen photos of a '44 steel, but never seen one in person (there was a 1943 copper/1944 steel combo for sale on ebay not long ago). Don't remember what they were asking, or for how much it sold (if it did).
Dave I have one 1983 copper but is not an good condition, because in the back has little marks in the letter liberty is double on America too, where I can go to sell , 1982 the 2 is rare thanks I have 1990 1992,94,95,96,97,9i,99,D and plenty
Dave can I send you a pic of a 1982 cent to determine large/small date. Being that the die was meant to stamp zinc, would the mint mark look slightly different on copper?
I was hooked up spending time checking each penny with my little microscope, and sorted them by year and minted State.Yesterday, 9/06/2018 I bought a box of Lincoln Penny ($25) from my bank. I found 23 Uncirculated Rolls 2018 that I did not open, and 6 1950's Leaf Pennies. I was hooked up on checking each penny under my little microscope and sorted them on small jelly botte. But I tell you guys I couldn't believed on what I found; 2 1983 (one with 3.12 gms, in very good condition, and one with 3.10gms almost at new condition. You could tell how excited I am but I do not know where to go from here to grade this pennies. Your help is very much appreciated.
Went to a coin shop in my area and learned a lot about the forgeries in the 1943 S copper penny. When it comes to forgeries people are good. They alter a 42,45,48,49. A regular magnifier will not pick up the little details. you NEED a 10X, magnifier. And for less than 20.00 bucks you can save a lot of gas, time and embarrassment. And a 1914 D the top of the 4 is rounded if it's pointed, could be a altered 44. But then again a regular magnifier won't allow you to get close enough to see the top of the 4. That 10X WOW HAPPY NEW YEAR
Hello!! So I watch all your videos and they are very informative! so I have in my possession 10 "1983" pennies!! This video has me very excited!! I just need to weigh them!! Gosh how awesome would this be!!!
Just started checkn' pennies a couple of months ago. I've learned so much, still very inexperienced, and have so many questions. I have alot of questions. I have found in that allot of the coins that are selling for insane amounts of money are just setting in my sox draw. What do I do if I would like to sell them? Do I have to be a coin dealer to get a coin graded? Where do I start?!
Do you know if any 2010 pennies from the mint and proof sets were made in copper by mistake since the 2009 mint and proof sets had copper pennies, do you think any copper blanks made it to 2010 to be stamped into pennies ?
I have over 200 $ in coins from 1895 to the year 2000, that I have collected for the past 8 years. You have so much knowledge on the history of production, years and the weight. How do I go about selling it. I would rather keep the collection together but know nothing about auctions. Is there any advice you could give me?? Thank you for your time. Chanel
just went through abt 2000 pennys lookin for 1943 copper and found three steal 43 but remember seeing three or for 83s along the way. OK diving back in the pile thanks 4 the vid
I have one! It's beautiful! 3.11 I Dont really collect or I guess I do now! How interesting. Please direct me on how I would go about selling this penny
I was watching something of pennies yesterday and picked up small cap with about 30 pennies inside. As was going through the coins and listening when this coin came up I picked this coin out of container.
When I separate my clad from copper pennies I just drop them on a hard surface.... A copper penny or non clad coins will ring like a bell or chime. Clad coins will not. Thanks for the info... I always thought there were 1983 coppers. I will run thru my bunch to find that one. Peace, Wayne
I just started going through saved change, so Far I have found what appears to be a 1983 small print and one that appears to be a large date print. They don't have a mint mark so I assume they are from Philadelphia. they both weigh over 3 grams and are circulated but in decent shape. Do the have any value or is it just the San Francisco mint mark.
red shift, I used to believe the same thing as you, but once I started checking up those Penney's man I tell you I got hooked, and all of the suddent I found a 1969s Penney, a beautiful 1959 d mark ddye Penney it is worth it man! a mean if you like it!
I had to comment on this particular video of yours; because I know you are very much into the transitional mint errors, like myself; Having found a %95 Copper 1983p Lincoln Cent, I do believe they are very rare; Howevere, there are most likely a lot of these out there, people just don't pay attention to them or try to spot them....And on top of that, obviously not many people send them into Grading...
I went to the bank for the first and found a lot of Double Die penny's. Some with double die on both sides. Also found 9 1982 penny's that weight 3.11 grams but they are a large date. Are they worth keeping. I'm new doing this would you please give some advise on what to do with this coins. Thanks for taking the time read my comment. Manuel Rios
Most likley not it could be tonning, or some kid lit it with a lighter or put it on the stove for a minuet. However, without photos its impossible to know for sure
I did find two 1983 transitional pennies that weighed 3.1 grams, I sent them to PCGS for grading, and they sent them back without evening weuighing them. What now?
I just flip them up in the air and strike the coin hard with the tip of my thumb hard to maximize ring. I always weigh them anyways, but I have *never* been wrong with the coin flick trick...
I have this coin but its a 2.3g but a mis strike still it it maybe worth anything? sorta odd press as looks smashed but the outer edge is perfect?? need to clean and take a shot of it I guess.
hi I have a new uncirculated 2017D penny that is not a double die but it has been struck with a smaller circle that exposes the zinc underneath. Is this an error coin?
i think i just got one today. feels and sounds like the other pre82 pennies.wont know for sure untill i get a scale. side note. in the same handful of pennies i got today there was one that looked different than all the others. not sure a value but it was a 1962d. and looks in uncirculated condition. pretty cool for some random pennies a friend had laying in his car.
I have 2 1969 S, i have to check are they double die or not? And 1983 i have question that its particular any mint or any of the mint can be ? Thanks Sir
I to have this pennie but in terrible Damage to front and some to back, they should be worth a pretty amount of money. One recently sold for $30,000 good luck, I have to have my coins checked out also.
You can have them weighed at your local post office. I think they will do it for free. it doesn't hurt to ask. Or you can order a small Digital Scale from ebay . (That's what I did) and weigh your own stuff. I bought mine when the gold was selling for the maximum amount. I remember I sold 2 grams for $135.00 at that time.
No proofs at that time were struck in silver. In fact, no Proofs were struck at all in 1965! The Mint produced "Special Mint Sets", sort of in-between uncirculated and Proof, but not quite either finish.

thank you so much blueridge. i love that you are touching base on error coins. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have this 1983 copper penny in better condition than the example on your display and it weighs 3.1!
Did you ever sell it? Because I just found one a 1983 D brown copper cent mine is really beautiful to with a red oily type of reflection. I believe it’s possibly a high grade as well so I’m curious did you sell yours and how?

Just found one in my change from my coffee. I'm driving to work listening to this video smiling my ass off.
I have a 1983 d penny with front stamped and back is blank. Unstamped. What should I do?

Good vid dude.Do you know about the 1965 silver quarter? Some 1965 quarters were struck on silver planchats intended for 1964.Worth about 7K!
+667hodge Proofs were struck on silver
No proofs at that time were struck in silver. In fact, no Proofs were struck at all in 1965! The Mint produced "Special Mint Sets", sort of in-between uncirculated and Proof, but not quite either finish.
