Same goes for cantaloupe, if it sounds hollow, grab it.
Also, to pick out a good ass pineapple: find a leaf closest to the middle and then try to pluck it out with as little force as possible. The easier it is, the riper

Great Method! When I worked in the produce department I learned that yellow spots are from the sun and all the brown wrinkles are (Sugar Lines) soo Supposedly the more hallow, yellow spots, and sugar lines you see the sweeter it is

    • @1970Mom

Tapping it for a hollow thump can be misleading. It can also be indicative of a dried out melon. The larger the "yellow spot" means that it stayed on the vine longer & had more opportunity to "soak up" natural sugars during it's growth. I've had my watermelon but have been too lazy to cut it up. Thanks for the inspiration. It's sandilla time.🤤💦

    • @belvamoore8169

Good cantaloupes usually smell like cantaloupe on the outside and sometimes they are more yellowish , or yellowish orange. You can push the tail ,end but you can still get a overripe one. The smell count, by smell you can tell if it's bad also. If it have no smell it's not ripe( not sweet).

Different stores have different policies of course but I’ve personally never had a store refuse to replace a bad watermelon.

Use whatever method you want, I'm here to say that as someone who has cut fruit in a production environment, watermelons are like lottery tickets.
I haven't been able to establish anything at all by the look or feel of a watermelon to determine ripeness and sweetness.
I have cut literally thousands of them.
Cantaloupe and other melons you can tell pretty easily, the methods you spoke about do work.
Best answer I have for watermelons is they get better starting in June, and they're amazing in August. They love heat and water, down here in Georgia we get some killer produce.

I had to pause and laugh when she said butthole on the watermelon, and the way she said it...😆😆😆

Sugar lines are what you want, not yellowing spots. There are also male and female watermelons, and the female watermelons are sweeter than the males. Males are oval and females are round ☺️

True!! Also look out for the brown lines because that’s the sugar marks. The more lines it has, the sweeter it is :)

The yellow on it only means it sat on the ground and that side got no sun, and has nothing to do with the sweetness. But the hollow sound from
Tapping it has always worked well.

I take this into account but also by how heavy it is too. If it sounds hollow but it’s really heavy especially for its size that means it’s juicier. Works every time.
