Thank you for this tutorial it is by far the best barrel tutorial on the YOU TUBE anywhere's. You get the AWARD for this tutorial. It is easy and simple and I was able to make 10 barrels in one sitting. Again Thank you and keep up the great tutorials.
I made these today for a moonshine still and they were so easy and turned out fantastic. I love your channel and the videos are so helpful, keep up the great work!
I love how simple these are! perfect to make a ton of for background clutter. I could even make them bombs by adding a piece of string as a fuse and red dry brushing in the shape of a skull
Wonderful! You sir, are a master craftsman. How you can just sit and figure this stuff out is really a cool talent! The filming/editing/lighting, and sound are perfectThank you for sharing!!!
I have to say.... you have a great talent for turning nothing into something awesome. I've never played DnD before but the great pieces of terrain really want me to make some tiles and play! If nothing else I could make a badass tile set for my Dungeon Command war bands.
Great video as always sir. I also found an easy way to make miniature barrels (I work at a hardware store so I have a lot of places to look for inspiration). Those small wooden plugs you use to cap off holes in wood projects are tapered on the ends and are almost the perfect size on a miniature scale. If you glue them end to end you get a good barrel shape and works great if you need to make a bunch.
I know it's a simple item, but I've been dying to figure this out. You made it look So easy! I'm making a permanent tavern for my games ( it's a franchise that ends up in every town :) and every accessory you've shown so far has gone into it. Thanks for giving me more!
This is a really useful video. Thank You for stopping me from buying tiny barrels. Now I can quickly and easily make a bunch of these. 😃 Thank You again for these vids. I'm so taking your advice. Also I'm going to be binge watching this channel. 😉
Very cool! I just started watching your videos tonight and I've subscribed. I'm not a gamer in truth-I'm more of a tinkerer. But I'm always on the lookout for tips about making little things like this. Your work is great and very creative. Thanks for sharing.
damn, they look great.. I am looking into trying to make these little props, but I am really afraid that I will fail miserably :D You have some really gorgeous things on your channel! Thanks for sharing it with us ^^
I just did my first barrell and it doesn';t look anywhere near as good as his but they are still barrells (typing this as they dry). Remember, you're going to be proud of your first one no matter what, and whether they're perfect or not doesn't matter, as long as they look like barrells and enhance your game
This is excellent. I don't suppose you could show us some science fiction set pieces? I GM a Star Wars RPG and there's precious little tools and tips around for crafting for it. Your work is amazing. I've been a crafter since I was very small and you have come up with things that I haven't thought of yet (a semi rare and very delightful occurrence!). I have dreams and schemes of building both the worm and the trees from your other videos. Thanks so much for sharing your skills!
Those do look great! Personally I prefer to buy barrels and crates and other assorted tiny stuff. Not too expensive, indestructible, and making tiny stuff isn't my forte (but breaking it is :P).
What you shouldve done was before you closed the barrel completely. Take your 2 disks and glue them on the inside along the folded crease edge, rather than on the top. So that way the disks look like the recess lid and edge top of the barrels. And its a nut not a bolt you glued inside. Also keep in mind the larger wide barrel you want to make the more slats youll need to use to make a big fat wide barrel. You can use wood dowels and cut to length then sand them down on a belt sander or something for the flared top and bottom. Then use a wood hot iron carving tool with a fine tip, burn the grooves along the sides of the dowel to create your barrel slats. And if you really want to be more creative use a Dremel with a round grinding stone, grind down just a little bit on the ends in the center that is small enough for the recess lid at the top and bottom. Then use the wood carving iron again to make the slats in the lids. Once your done use any wood stain for your base color to bring out the real natural look of the wood before you paint any highlights to the barrels. Then using the same technique of using the card stock paper for your iron bands place them on as well. And your done.
In your Tilescape introduction you have a giant mead barrel, does this just upscale for that or is it a bit more involved? Reason I ask is I'm building a tavern and it would be epic WIN to have several of those around.
TheDMsCraft SENPAI NOTICED ME! But seriously, love your videos, they have inspired not just me but my wife as well, (we're kind of binge watching them). Thanks for what you do!
A better technique for installing the nut might be to use a bolt. Just thread the nut on a couple turns (very loose, but not TOO loose), hot glue the nut, then use the bolt to shove it into the barrel. When the glue sets in a couple seconds, unscrew the bolt and move on to the next barrel.
Can you provide more information about the doors you featured at the end of the video? Kinda blew my mind when I saw that it was a functional door. Please and thank you.
+theDMsCraft I love the gridless play style! makes diagonal movement SOOO much easier to work out LOL PLAYER: "so if I move up, left, up, left, up , left...that'll make my 30ft (6inches) of movement for the turn even though i'm only about 4 or so inches from where I started?" DM: "sadly, yes"
The other day I got a pizza from little caesars and the corrugation on the box is really small. I am going to try to make some barrels out of it and see how they turn out. I'll post my results on the facebook page.
These barrels look great. I think I'm going with this technique for my first set of barrels that I'll be making soon. Question though, how did you make that bar in the tavern scene at the end? Rectangle woodsies on top of cardboard or blocks?

I think I've just found a new hobby, going to my local crafts store tonight!

I've been trying to find a good method for like two weeks now.
Very cool! I just started watching your videos tonight and I've subscribed. I'm not a gamer in truth-I'm more of a tinkerer. But I'm always on the lookout for tips about making little things like this. Your work is great and very creative. Thanks for sharing.

No problem! Keep up the good work!
Great job, as always, man!
Roderick...yet again awakens confused under the heavy arm of a she-ogre..
I bet it was the smell...lol
That's awesome!
Say, would it helped if before painting you'd white glued them on the whole surface to strenghten it up?
For stealth sections you could use a magnet under the table and secretly 'sneak' enemies round the dungeon to surprise the players!
Very true
great tutorial, nice result :)
Fantastic sir
So glad you like it.
thank you for the video! awesome tutorial
+acdjr909 Glad you enjoyed it...check out my hundreds of other vids.
Thouse barrels might be simple to do, but it sure was the best looking barrels i could fine, to craft.👍

Love the new intro!
awesome!!!!!
I don't know if you did one on sacks/bags already, but if you haven't: Wouldn't those little silicate pouches they put in pill bottles work?
Cool idea.
awesome
The post office envelope works just as well?
That is a hex nut, sir.
Thank ya
That's okay, the guy using it is a craft nut. 😃
damn, they look great.. I am looking into trying to make these little props, but I am really afraid that I will fail miserably :D You have some really gorgeous things on your channel! Thanks for sharing it with us ^^
Very welcome, Don't be afraid to try...comes easier with a bit of practice.

Good Stuff DmScotty..
a bunch of assassins have come to kill the paty. "Hey look at the barrel"
+nab ban LOL
You can use a wodden dovel to roll them on.
True
I think u can use two part epoxy glue to do very small rivet details
true.

SENCILLO Y GRANDIOSO!
Those do look great! Personally I prefer to buy barrels and crates and other assorted tiny stuff. Not too expensive, indestructible, and making tiny stuff isn't my forte (but breaking it is :P).
Nice video. The barrels look great. One thing though... it's a nut, not a bolt. :)
You won the prize =)
Yay!?
Their repast is interrupted by some assassins that have come to hate them. XD
Yepper =)

It is actually a cast model but you could easily upscale this build.
TheDMsCraft SENPAI NOTICED ME! But seriously, love your videos, they have inspired not just me but my wife as well, (we're kind of binge watching them). Thanks for what you do!
So glad you enjoy my work...go forth and craft!
Is this on the cardboard lines or between them that we are marking and cutting one layer deep on?
between the corrugations...one side of the cardboard it is usually easier to see the corrugation lines.

Check out my Tilescapes playlist.
question, when using 3d models when playing, how do you know how far your character is moving?
DustyLynx It is not an exact science but every inch moved equals 5 feet of movement. You can adjust this depending in the system.
oh i see, seems somewhat similar to warhammer
Sure is...check out my gridless play vids
okay, will do
+theDMsCraft I love the gridless play style! makes diagonal movement SOOO much easier to work out LOL
PLAYER: "so if I move up, left, up, left, up , left...that'll make my 30ft (6inches) of movement for the turn even though i'm only about 4 or so inches from where I started?"

Question though, how did you make that bar in the tavern scene at the end? Rectangle woodsies on top of cardboard or blocks?
Square cubes I got from the craft store and then just wooden rectangle shapes glued on....you guessed right.
Is that Token a Waterdeep rogue?
+Gary Togabot No, I think the ones you mean are from the game Confrontation.
they look great. how did you figure this out!! haha. my lazy ass just bought some barrels
I am a genius.
Hey! Would this technique could be used to do crates?
I need some of 'em! :)
Addramyr Palinor Sure could, remember crates are just cubes.
