Khan highlights the hypocrisy of boxing fans. We all want fighters to go toe to toe and throw punches, we all want wild, crazy wars with knockdowns and KO's. Yet you get a guy that steams in EVERY fight, never backs down in spite of his obvious weaknesses and everyone can't wait to disown him as a loser. Mayweather on the other hand, is a god because he's unbeaten even though he's taken some scandalously unworthy title defenses and only stopped 5 of his last 24 opponents (one of those was a sucker punch). Khan is 35-31-4, which is a win % of 89. Which is better than Carlos Molina who is featured in this video, but also great fighters like Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao. I'm not comparing Khan to those two legends, I am just pointing out this glass chin shit is born out of some morbid obsession with hating on fighters that get KO'd, rather than being based on real records and a fair assessment of Khan's fighting style. I have never watched a boring Khan fight and I have nothing but respect for everything his gives in the ring. This is the fight game, people get knocked out.

As a former amateur boxer and coach - I would bet my entire savings that Khans chin is better than 95% of the people calling him a glass jaw. Compared to the general population, his chin is granite. The problem is fighting at world level. At world level, his opponents hit frighteningly hard. Most of you have absolutely no idea how hard people like Maidana, Prescott, Garcia and Canelo can punch ... even most of british level pros who are called feather fisted can actually punch real hard compared to the average guy on the street.
I don't understand why people mock him and say "glass chin" like it's a fundamental character flaw that he could improve. It was his Achilles heel at the world level, but what do people expect him to do about it? A large part of it is just genetics and the way you're built -- all you can do is work on your defence and try to get hit less, but eventually someone will hit you flush. Even Floyd Mayweather Jr might have lost his 0 when Shane Mosley hit him flush on the jaw with a hard shot, but he was able to weather it and then fight on as normal. If that same shot had hit Khan, he would've been knocked down and then been roller skating for a round or two. There are boxers out there who got hurt and were never the same again, but Khan kept fighting tough opponents -- he had tremendous heart.

I never thought Khan had a glass chin per se. I always felt that he was so in love with his speed that his stance and punches were built around it. Therefore he tends to stand square his shoulders and when he throws his combos his chin goes up in the air and he keeps that square posture. Also, because he's so focused on throwing fast combinations he has no focus on what might be coming back. It leaves him real vulnerable. His defense is really spotty. His whole style is essentially that of a glass cannon. It works great for amateurs where knockouts were less likely because of the larger gloves and headgear but not in the pros. It's this same issue that makes me scared for Ryan Garcia's future. He has very similar habits.

Liam Smith was able to take a hundred of those and wasn't stopped, not till Canelo went to the body and that's with having a huge weight advantage against his opponents. Cotto who has been dropped many times, was hit plenty of times by Canelo and didn't go down once. That's specifically why they chose Khan as his opponent, because Canelo's power is overrated and wanted a spectacular KO win before they vacated the title so they wouldn't lose all respect but to knowledgeable boxing fans he lost respect the moment they sought Khan as an opponent.
I've been watching some of these, and there is this split second where Khans head just freezes like a rabbit in headlights, as the shot is coming towards him. Contrast with a good fighter, they will always be moving their head to not give an easy target like that.
He fights at the highest level. Every time he's been knocked down or out it is usually someone with known knockout power. No shame in that. Khan is an excellent fighter.
He's very skilled and courageous. Not every one has a great chin. It's just how your brain is wired. Ali had a great chin and took some hellish beatings for it. His choice. However he got pugilistic Parkinson's disease because of it.

His defence is terrible. He gets hit clean far too often and he doesn’t react by covering or even moving with the hit to reduce the contact. Even a person with a great chin wouldn’t survive a lot of those hits. I’ve seen him lose fights he was clearly winning as he goes on the offensive and gets rocked.
His coaching staff in his early career really let him down. He needed to be told look the guys you are dominating now with your speed are bums, eventually, you are going to have to learn to deal with people that can cope with your speed.

As a former amateur boxer and coach - I would bet my entire savings that Khans chin is better than 95% of the people calling him a glass jaw. Compared to the general population, his chin is granite. The problem is fighting at world level. At world level, his opponents hit frighteningly hard. Most of you have absolutely no idea how hard people like Maidana, Prescott, Garcia and Canelo can punch ... even most of british level pros who are called feather fisted can actually punch real hard compared to the average guy on the street.

I don't understand why people mock him and say "glass chin" like it's a fundamental character flaw that he could improve. It was his Achilles heel at the world level, but what do people expect him to do about it? A large part of it is just genetics and the way you're built -- all you can do is work on your defence and try to get hit less, but eventually someone will hit you flush.
Even Floyd Mayweather Jr might have lost his 0 when Shane Mosley hit him flush on the jaw with a hard shot, but he was able to weather it and then fight on as normal. If that same shot had hit Khan, he would've been knocked down and then been roller skating for a round or two.
There are boxers out there who got hurt and were never the same again, but Khan kept fighting tough opponents -- he had tremendous heart.

I never thought Khan had a glass chin per se. I always felt that he was so in love with his speed that his stance and punches were built around it. Therefore he tends to stand square his shoulders and when he throws his combos his chin goes up in the air and he keeps that square posture. Also, because he's so focused on throwing fast combinations he has no focus on what might be coming back. It leaves him real vulnerable. His defense is really spotty. His whole style is essentially that of a glass cannon. It works great for amateurs where knockouts were less likely because of the larger gloves and headgear but not in the pros.
It's this same issue that makes me scared for Ryan Garcia's future. He has very similar habits.

I've been watching some of these, and there is this split second where Khans head just freezes like a rabbit in headlights, as the shot is coming towards him. Contrast with a good fighter, they will always be moving their head to not give an easy target like that.

I agree the chin is genetic but I don’t think he worked enough on his defence to make up for it. His hand speed was freakish and he had decent footwork but his blocking wasn’t the best

His defence is terrible. He gets hit clean far too often and he doesn’t react by covering or even moving with the hit to reduce the contact. Even a person with a great chin wouldn’t survive a lot of those hits. I’ve seen him lose fights he was clearly winning as he goes on the offensive and gets rocked.
His coaching staff in his early career really let him down. He needed to be told look the guys you are dominating now with your speed are bums, eventually, you are going to have to learn to deal with people that can cope with your speed.
