Th 1994 7.4 Peanut Port engine made 235 hp/385 tq, the 1997 made 290 hp/410 tq. I owned em both, difference was TBI vs SPI and higher compression. Making 200 more hp with bolt ons is impressive.
i love this show ! reminds me of when i was a kid and i looked forward to Saturday morning when they played all the car shows. and they where car shows not the 30 minute commercials you have now. they actually taught you how to do things !
I mean I get it’s a big block 454/7.4L V8 and by todays standard of HP per liter it’s not “all that” but geez I’d hardly consider that “a dog” 465HP/537Tq is nothing to scoff at, that’s still would still be a pretty stout street motor, that would still WALK about 90% of the normal cars you pull up next to at the red light (obviously it probably couldn’t run against a newer ZL1 Camaro, GT500 Mustang, Hellcat, etc) but even with the lowest/1st Dyno pull it’s still stout. ESPECIALLY if you have the right diff gearing (3.73, 4.10, 4.56) add all that together in a relatively lighter weight car and you’ve got something that would still definitely be a blast to drive. Not trying to be negative/hate on the video it was a great video as always! Engine masters is definitely one of my favorite series.
i have a Mark IV block with the PP heads and 2.0 eddy and 750 QFT and a mild 270H cam in a 3800 lb Gbody with 3.73s . the Car walks my 87 GN with 17 lbs of boost! Its funny looking at the Tac its just at 4000 rpm as it says bye bye to the GN
I agree, 537 ft lbs in street car or C10 with the right gear and converter would be a blast on the street, and put a 150 shot on top of that if you want a little more now and then. Most people wouldn’t know what to do with that much torque in an average street car. 👍🏻
My first intake for my Square Port 454 was a tarantula. Carburetor set at a crazy angle. Idea was shorter runners I think. Still got it hanging on the garage.
That cheap speed master intake performed really well - that is amazing - yes its made in China but for a gear head on a budget it seems like a great deal - not everyone can afford top of the line parts
Back in 1990 or so I built a 468 11. 1 compression BB chevy square port heads 623 lift 248 at .050 duration cam offy port o sonic open plenum intake. In a 3500 lb camaro it lacked low end torque . I switched to performer rpm intake and then the motor struggled to turn rpm after 5000 switched to gm large oval ports with big valves and dart open plenum intake and that was the way to go. Big difference
@@rikardoberg9925from what I've been reading, with the Olds rocket, not only is it a legendary engine, but they're saying Olds were generally considered the most powerful muscle car's until the hemi came back with the 426, then Chrysler took over.
@@rikardoberg9925 yeah, it's pretty much the original muscle car. I feel like mainly chevy and ford have gotten most of the love with engine's over the years and some Chrysler with the hemi. The one's that haven't have been Buick, Olds and Pontiac. They've all had at least one quality engine over the years. They need to definitely shine something on those guy's.
David. Look at air fuel ratio at steady throttle 1700 rpms. If its lean. Increase the primary idle feed restrictions. 0.031 afrs are lean on a 347/355. On a 396/408 you need a 0.034" ifr. A 427 needs 0.036. If you like throttle response off idle that is how its done. Look at primary jetting at 3500 to 3800 rpm.

okay you 2 lads , how about doing an episode about camshaft notching -- meaning advancing or retarding the camshaft by 1 gear tooth or by 2 or 3 teeth ETC , versus crankshaft timing , i read a story back in the early 2000`s about an engine builder who retarded the camshaft to crankshaft alignment by several teeth , basically he explained that the piston was 60 percent on it`s downward stroke creating suction in the cylinder , then the intake valve opened allowing a denser air-fuel charge to be "SUCKED" into the combustion chamber thus resulting in a lot more torque generated ( he did not though state if the camshaft was a custom grind , probably was but just a factory grind maybe .
didn't Brodix/Shafiroff come out with a low deck dual plane intake to feed large cubes/heads? did that ever come out seemed like a great solution for hood issues the 615ci 9.8 deck has my attention, especially with hood clearance. looks like a massive torque monster with that 4.625 stroke too, but i might stay with 4.35 or 4.5 stroke if i do a engine swap I just think BBC's with high compression has such a unique sound that is pure music to the ears
I have an air gap intake on my 408 (stroked 351w) but my hood doesn’t fit over it. I don’t know if I should get a performer and have the hood fit. To save money, or go into debt and get a cowl hood 😢
Now the 2 manifold gaskets on the Edelbrock Performer throws me. I have just rebuilt a Mark IV 454 with 820 oval port heads. When I try to run it, it will not run, it seems there is a massive vacuum leak. If I work the accelerator it will stay running above 2,000 RPM, but dies quickly when let off. I tried 3 carbs, 2 fuel pumps, and 2 distributors, so they aren't the problem. I have a 7561 Air Gap, and I wonder whern they put that on did they use 2 gaskets, or have the thick ones, or was only 1 used?
You guys did a video a month or two ago, comparing different intake manifolds. The specific video I am speaking about, you cut down the center divider of an Edelbrock, performer manifold, and compared it to an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap. I cannot seem to find that video anymore. Could you please send a link to that video so that I can share it? By the way, I love your show.
hate to be the bearer of bad news but anything made in the usa is generally made by central americans grinding it out in manufacturing at 10 bucks an hour
When the factory dyno test the engines they do it with his it's going to be installed in the vehicle with all the police than the belt on it with all the equipment running So the insurance companies won't shock it to the customer that bought the vehicle
As a kid growing up in the 80s and 90s, you always heard about the 454. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a popular and well known engine, but as far as big blocks go, there's definitely bigger or better one's. For me personally, I would feel like those 454s from the pre EFI era just didn't have the torque for say a quad cab dually. Throw the 632 in there and bore it out 70 over, lol 😂.
I am happy there was a new roadkill episode. It feels like motortrend has stopped making roadkill garage, faster with fin, and HRG. I miss DED so badly, as well as the two extras!! I wonder if MT will ever make another 3k hooptie challenge, or cheap truck challenge? It seems like the only shows active on MT now are million dollar builds. MT had become so unrelatable, we all enjoy a good fantasy build once and awhile, but all the good shows that i enjoy and relate to, and learn from now, are on youtube. I was going to cancel my membership which i have had since the first day, but i just realized every MT magizine ever is on the ap. I think the CEO and whoever else is in charge of the show productions needs to go back and read the magizines as well, the unlimited budgets on all the new shows are so far out of touch from what the magizine always has been. Maybe MT only wants to appeal to millionaires. If you watch any UA/ corporate ceo retreat, that is very obvious.
Firstly I love the show and the guys, but does anyone else think that Dulcich looks like the prototype for Butthead from the old "Beavis and Butthead" animated show? I mean the resemblance is uncanny. I guess that kinda makes Freiburger Beavis then, right?

Big blocks rocks but you can squeeze out more power out of small blocks considering space as a factor.
Then why did they design/build a Big Block to begin with?

Great video. Wish I had a better option than the 2-0 for my 71 Vette.. But that's the only one that I can find that will fit under my stock LS5 hood..
I wish my 454 had that power. It's a stock, '99 and I'm at 1/2 the power and would love to know what the bottom end and heads actually are
My son had a short thick 598 and I had the same problem what I did was put to intake gaskets in there and the motor ran just fine with no are leaking

That’s likely a habit he picked up over time and he won’t change because of muscle memory.
