the quality of content has just gone steadily through the roof over the last months or so, with the interviews of Vida, Evra and other videos. This one was one of the best and most entertaining podcast I've ever seen as a football fan. I laughed so hard when Rio talked about John O'Shea doing stepovers without the ball... I couldn't stop laughing. well done to all of you.
ask Rio about the top 5 players with great character he played with, and maybe talk a bit about their traits as a person, their principles, not only as players but as persons.
My son knew Ravel Morrison well and let me tell you the kid was a football genius - my son used to play too but is a couple of years older that Ravel. My son like many others used to try and talk to him, try to give him some guidance, but I suppose there are some kids who are just troubled…….it’s a shame because he could have been a truly world class player.

Sometimes I forget that this is RIO FERDINAND one of the best if not the best CB of all time, this kind of videos is pure gold
No way is he the best of all time
@@Cobber2187 he's in the conversation though, isn't he?
@@lindseydye759Maldini baresi…
Baresi, Madlini, Nesta, Ramos, Beckenbauer maybe he comes after them somewhere
What people don't understand about Michael Owen was his potential was basically cut in half at 19 after he snapped his hamstring. He still became a great player and even won the Ballon d'Or at 21 but after that injury he went from a guy who was destined to be a top 5 player in the world for 10-15 years to just a really good striker. But before that injury he was maybe the most hyped young player other than Ronaldo. He was on Carragher's podcast and they were talking about him as a kid and they said Fifa had a magazine that every year would list the best player in the world at every age group and Owen was voted number 1 from something stupid like age 11-19. He shattered every goalscoring record at every youth level he played at. The internet wasn't really a thing at the time but everyone in world football knew he was coming. Then in his debut season at 17 he wins the Premier League golden boot. Then that summer goes and stars in a World Cup at 18. Then the next season wins another golden boot. In his first two years he won back to back golden boots and was a World Cup star all by 19. So he wasn't just living up to expectations he was shattering them. Then in his third season he snapped his hamstring.
That goal against Argentina in 98...
@@Nhilzer Exactly. That tournament was right after his first season where he won the Premier League golden boot in spite of being 17 when the season started 🤯Think about how hyped players like Rashford and Walcott were when they broke into their teams at about the same age and they were just coming off the bench. Even Rooney at Everton scored 8 and 9 goals respectively in his first two seasons and that made United blow 30 million on him which was crazy money at the time. Owen got 23 his first year and another 23 his second year 😰
I just remember him being clutch for Liverpool as well. Fa cup final goals against arsenal etc he was just sort of inevitable whenever Liverpool or England needed a goal
That's a great point ya know. The fact Roy absolutely loves the guy, tells you everything. And Roy didn't even play with him when he was at his peak for united, but his early younger years where he already was a good player, but still very much a diamond in the rough. So the fact Roy Keane loved and respected younger Ronaldo shows that Ronaldo truly had the heart and mindset of a champion. Otrherwise Roy would have hated his guts. Also Ronaldo has always shown respect to Keano aswel.
Ronaldo says Keane was his best captain and Keane always liked Ronaldo and never liked Rooney as Rooney who always acts shy was a cocky scouser behind the scenes
@@dondamon4669 I'm not surprised lol. If Rooney played centre midfield Keane would have hated to play against him.
I just see Rooney as his kryptonite. So much energy and attitude. Impossible to control.
"There was nothing like it before him, and there's been nothing like him since."
He is truly one of a kind, but those times were astonishing! Respect Rio
Joel loves an exhale when you mention a top player 😂
Loving the Rio insights as always.
Never seen a young player like Wayne Rooney. The way he played and excitement around him the buzz was unique.
A young Jackie Grealish at Villa looked incredible at 14-16. Even as a child we heard things about him. To see him play at the Bernabau a few months back made most Villa fans proud
Then 10 years later the best team in the league buys him for 100 million and he goes on to win the league, FA Cup and champions league. Fairplay to him.
At one point at Villa I thought he was gonna throw his talent away.
I’m a United fan but I’m also Irish. I love watching Grealish, he’s a character.
@silewis9396 so did we. He was partying with Albrighton apparently instead of working hard. But he knuckled down and we got a British transfer record fee. And he kept us up
He was at notts county when he was about 19. Not in the same league as the likes of Rooney
He's just a cog in the machine of pep now
Can’t wait for season to start again!!! Miss seeing Joe getting it Ste and Rio 😂! Bigup guys!
Short and Sweet….love listening to ‘Tales From Rio’😊
Rio needs to tell us how Bebe got to even play first team football for United,no way that guy was tearing it up in training 😂
He had a good career in Spain. Had a lot better career than 90% of united flops
To think I remember being more excited about ravel coming through than pogba, watching youth games on MUTV thinking this kid will be something special. What could have been😢
That could have been 45 minutes long and it wouldn't have been too long. 14 mins was like tasting the wine, please, open the whole bottle.
Rio is so good at this. Talking about players for us to listen. Why isn't he a commentator
With Rio and Ste, u know issa vibe 🔥
Kudos to rio & Joel love the content & organic banter 👏🏼 👊🏽💯
Anderson and Nani from 2007-2009 were both world class, then dropped off. Would have been interesting hearing about them.
Nani was still world class until about 2012. The 10/11 season he was one of the best players in the prem, think he registered 18 assists.
Anderson could of been so much more. So much potential 🔥
@@BluntApeI remember watching highlights of Anderson before he came, But he never lived upto that player in portugal, still a good player though.
Nani was never, ever. World class stop watching TH-cam clips of him ffs. Was never consistently a world class player, he certainly had the ability to be.
Rio should drop this bum Howson fake top red
Ive heard so many of the utd players say the same thing about Ravel Morrison and so many coaches talking about him, It's mad how someone with that much talent that still doubted just how good he was.. I used to coach local teams and the one thing I'd try drum into them especially the lads who stood out I'd say to them to never downplay how good they are and if someone is praising you take the compliment and don't ever be shy it's not been cocky by acknowledging what you no ur good at be confident in ur ability
That's why the players are the way they are now being told "believe your the best, your so good, love yourself" the class pf 92 were told everyday by Harrison that they are worthless, rubbish, never amount to nothing crap players! Thats the way they should still be treated coz if at 16 you know you are set and going to be rich of course you get lazy
Brillant interview
Big up Ravel 🔥🔥🔥🇯🇲🇯🇲
Ravel looking Fletch in the eyes is the funniest thing 😂😂😂
When are you getting Les Ferdinand and Andy Cole on the show. Come on guys
Hey Rio, can u get Becks on a podcast or sth? I feel like he needs a bit of spotlight back in the football world to remind ppl how good he is back in the days. Thank u.
Gotta love Wayne Rooney 😍 wha a player
08:50 Fenerbahce and Rio was playing lol That was must watch game/debut.
I’d like to hear Rio talk about he’s days at Leeds and who he thought was the best players they had at that time
Excellent presentation guys
Love this type of video
Top Top Clip!
My best mates brother growing signed for utd youth team in the late 90s his name was Ryan Hutchinson from salford/eccles, great footballer he ran rings around me on the field at the back of his house and I was about four years older than him. It never worked out and he ended up moving to Stoke.
THAT WAS LOVELY RIO!
I dont think anyone gets near rooney, he was just on a completely different planet. Never seen an English player like him since and i don't think i ever will he was a beast
Rooney is the best for me. He was a monster when he first joined United and had incredible longevity. He has to be no.1 as our best young player ever
Ronaldo out of the chat 😂
At such a young age also . Like he said, as a kid he was a man
Quality episode. Mainly players that made it though so it’s a little obvious, You should do a part 2 of players who didn’t make it (similar to ravel) but who Rio expected to have a career but through injury/setbacks it didn’t work out.
I'm a Man Utd supporter but I loved Joe Cole ever since I saw him first play for West Ham. I think injuries prevented him from getting to the very top level.
Fantastic Video. I loved Ravel I hate it when Utd great kids don’t make the first team. I’m so glad Garnacho has got through. I’d like to see more kids get to top level from the academy. Maybe there needs to be better sports psychology st that early age to help the mental side.
The only way the kids get the chance is for the snr team to play better to allow easy transition of the kids. ManUtd have had better kids in the last 7 years but never integrated because the first team is shite
Cesc fabregas deserved a shout. The lad had to fill the hole that Patrick vieira left behind, it’s a shame arsenal couldn’t build around him and they came against ronaldos united.
Even in his latter stages of his career he had a massive role in Chelsea’s 2 most recent title wins.
People forget how good Michael Owen was.
Ballon d'Or winner and played for Madrid during the Galacticos era... He is too humble, that's why we forget about him. I remember him in the FA Cup Final versus Arsenal, Liverpool were dead and buried there. He held the goals record for England and you have to wonder what the record would have been if he had not suffered all those injuries. 😮
people forget Owen was a Ballon d'Or winner... he was electric in his early days, almost unplayable
Top five best players of all time in each and every Premier League.
I would like to hear your openings in this, please.
I love love Vibe with five.
George Best being impressed with a 18 Year Old Ronaldo is all you need to know about how gifted he was.
Excellent show .. can we do best man Utd.playets Rio played with ??
Love dis show 😂🎉
So random. I was at Formula 1 in Abu Dhabi last year, walking through one of the underground walkways in Yas Island and ran into Ravel Morrison. It was so random, but I had to give him a shout. Told him I appreciated his game, and was a big fan (because I was)! Watching him when he was young - the game was too too easy for him. Football was always too easy for him. For most people, when it comes that easy, it’s tempting to not work at it. It sucks.
Loving these mini segments. Can you guys do one on the best 90s Strikers - Batigol, Shearer, Vieiri.
This!!! You are spot on. Would be a great segment.
Greenwood and Garnacho , the later could end up to be anything , special talent for sure
We need Berba on the pod
Young Rooney was different. Owen was a bad man too. People do forget how good he was when for that first 3-4 years
Owen was a monster when he was young.
It was the injurys that fucked him.
He was faster than his body could handle. If that makes sense.
I know Rio obviously didn't play alongside him but Angel Gomes was right up there with Ravel for me and it's been nice seeing him resurrect his career after such a horrendous injury.
He is no where near Ravel. Good talents but Ravel was a madness.
@@TJTOPBOY Nah I'm sorry, I've got to disagree with you on that one. I'm not going to argue who was better as it seems a little childish to me however saying "one was no where near the other" is just nonsense isn't it?
Different players, I've watched both personally and played against Angel internationally, they both made it look easy and even that would be an understatement. Only player I've personally played against, again at youth level who was even comparable to Angel was Renato Sanches at a Youth European Championships. I genuinely came off the pitch that day thinking the world doesn't know we have the next Ronaldinho on our hands lol
Lol, no way close. Ravel had everything. Similar to Foden but better.
Angel Gomes was not on the level of Ravel. If you had said Greenwood, then maybe. But Ravel is still spoken about till this day and he's in his 30s now
@@divit00 Foden? Angel was always 1 or 2 steps ahead in development to Foden so I'm not sure what the point you're trying to make is? Were talking Youth football here and I've played both with and against some of the best in Europe and I can tell you personally, off first hand experience Angel was probably the best young player of his Generation. Not just in England or Europe but probably the world. It was ridiculous how good that kid was, made everything look easy and effortless.
Rio needs to make a best XI he's played against whther thats Prem, in Europe or on the international stage.
I’d love you to ask Rio about his game against Real when R9 scored a hat trick against him. Old Trafford gave R9 a standing ovation when he got subbed off. Partly because he’d just beaten a PRIME Rio Ferdinand. We just did ever see that.
How did Rio feel?
Please could you talk about Lee Sharp one day or even better get him on 👍
Loved Rooney, Nani and CR7
I love Stephen 😂😂can I just say he scored 16 goals love Mr Facts
In the world of ground hopping, and fan culture. There is so many amazing yet hostile places for opposing teams and fans to visit. It would be great to ask Rio his top 5 European away grounds that he has played in? Most Hostile fans, hes experienced, best away fans, what European club would he have ever played for in an alternative universe based on his experiences?
Try explain this to people that only think ronaldo played for Madrid and talk about him just scoring goals in the box , the guy was a master with the ball at his feet whole defences we’re terrified when he pick the ball up from deep
Humbly i’d Cristiano and Wazza , Michael Owen and Pogba. Memories change and we didn’t have the internet but there was something different about Cristiano, his vision, a scorers mentality. Tbh only Rooney matched that.
Ask owen about the fa cup final 2001 and that second goal catching seaman out
Could you get Rio to talk about how good (and I mean world class) Roy Keane was for Man Utd and the effect he had on him and his team mates. I really don’t think Roy Keane gets the credit he truly deserves and I know he hates receiving it but Ngolo Kante aside, there has been no player that has gotten anywhere near his consistent standards. I would love to see that video. Thanks.
Now imagine this conversasion with Cafu or Roberto Carlos the kids that Brazil produced .
Wilshere got into the PL TOTY at 18/19. Not sure how many othere did that
I would love to see Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Cantona or Sir Alex Ferguson coming on the show 🙏🏼
Nate from Ted Lasso sends his regards
Get wazza in for a podcast please
Ravel mentioned first. Ronaldo mentioned last. Look how different things went. Its insane really. One is on a madness in wages and honors... the other.... im not sure. Crazy
Be interested to know when Joe Cole played for Man Utd
Joe Cole was at West Ham with Rio.
@@Icegaze88 Name of the video is "Rio's Top FIVE Man United Wonder-kids!"
Joe Cole wsa the one! Skills Carrick/Di Canio/Sinclair/Cole were ballers.
Liverpool Owen was worthy of Ballon D'or...injuries took his speed.
Joe Cole was a absolute baller
There wasn't a doubt in my mind that Cole was going to be one of the very best players in the world one day when he first broke through at West Ham. It's a shame how his career turned out. Probably shouldn't have gone to Chelsea. Mourinho wasn't a man who allowed his player's to play with a lot of freedom. I think if West Ham didn't get relegated he'd have probably stayed there a couple more years with Carrick and Defoe and maybe proved himself more as a player who a top club can build a team around. Because that's what he needed. Cole was a maverick player like a Zola or a Bergkamp who should have been orchestrating everything. He wasn't a left winger.
@@SonnyK248 was a shame really was absolutely unbelievable player even when he was at Chelsea he was unbelievable unplayable in he’s day was just a shame for the injuries will always be a legend on the streets tho every kid form back then will always remember what a baller Joe Cole was
Honestly I dislike and envy natural talents because all I do is repetitive work to try and be better. And here most of them just are so talented and hate working hard …thanks for football content GGMU
Rooney was clearly the best wonderkid. Owen was a close 2nd.
These two were world class as teenagers, the other talents either flopped or became world class later on like Ronaldo at 21.
You’re crazy if you think Rooney or Owen were better teens than cr7. At no point was Wayne ever better than cr7, maybe a similar level but never better. To suggest Wayne and Owen were world class but cr7 only became world class after 21 is not true.
@@civildiscourse7626You are very Wrong. There was absolutely a time where Rooney was better than Ronaldo as a teen.
@@csav47Rooney is better goal scorer but cr7 in his frist 3 seasons is dribbling 4 or 5 player par game and his speed was crazy.
@@pauliyonas3576 Ronaldo was a teen built like a teen his end product was not on par with Rooney's when he joined Manchester United, alot of his dribbles amounted to nothing which according to many ex team mates had to be kicked out of him in training. Rooney was a teen already built like man ready fornthe league before he joined. While Ronaldo did adapt to the league and then surpassed Rooney as the better player they was definitely a year or 2 where Rooney was the better player.
@@csav47 Ronaldo may have been more raw as a teen than Rooney but he was clearly the more talented footballer.
Remember saying exactly that to one of my teachers at the time and he scoffed at the comment. Within 18 months Ronaldo surpassed Rooney and never looked back.
FIve seconds into the video I have paused it. To type. Norman Whiteside. MUFC wonder kid from the days I was a kid. My bet is he makes the list. Others would be George Best, Ryan Giggs, CR7, and Rooney. There's more, e.g., Beckham and Scholes, but I have to pick five.
Edit. Nope. It was Rio's list based on his early experience in football, rather than wider MUFC history. Fair enough I guess.
James Milner springs to mind he was different coming in early 16 yr old
CR7 had defenders doing splits on the pitch 😂.
Theres one where he had ashley cole on the splits

Please get scholes and keane on !!
Ste at 9.55 🤣🤣🤣🤣
ROOOONNNEEEEEYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He had o'shea doing step overs without the ball. Lmao
I think Greenwood was the best wonderkid Man Utd have ever had. Such a unique player, no one scored goals the way he did. Left foot, right foot, inside and outside the box, dribbling, excellent game sense, he had everything at only 19 years of age and playing in the toughest league in the world. Unfortunately he didnt have mentality and behaviour to go along with his tremendous skill
well, he can be back next season though
Fantastic player Pace, eye for goal, dribbling, great attacker all around could beat his man, could beat his woman.
We had edwards chorton best
Nah. He was kinda raw and predictable Unfocused.didn't press or defend. Lazy off the ball. Inconsistent and arguably the 4th most selfish player I have seen other than Robben, Ben arfa and Tarabt. Once he got the ball - it went to a bpack hole.
@@erikpuka2627 Don't want my forwards defending tbf. Strikers have to be selfish so I don't mind that. He was 18/19 when he broke into the team of course he'll be unfocused and inconsistent he was only going to get better
This is straight out of filthy fellas episode
8:45 Hattrick against Fenerbahce, not Galatasaray.
Well, what is the hold up in the United takeover? What is happening?
Do you think Erik ten Hag is going to miss out on his primary targets?
Do you think he is getting frustrated, with not having the players he wants before United head out to the US Pre Season Tour?
Macheda?
Joe ur not from ends. My mates brother went private school with you. Why is Joe Cole from the estate close to ur heart.
teenage Michael Owen is the don. No British player as a teenager (apart from Rooney) can chat to him
I feel Ravel Morrison could have been handled better at United if someone took him under their wing!I think it was a missed opportunity for the club and for that player and I sincerely hope they have learnt their lesson and handle Greenwood with common sense and not social media emotions because he is the most clinical forward we have at the club!
ravel should be an example in the academy and they should show the kids videos of him so that they can see that talent only takes you so far . he was by far the best player in that team including pogba , what a shame .
Tell my son about him,as my son sometimes has attitude problems whilst playing, even tho he is really good at 10 years,so I showed him what happened to Ravel
Bellingham is the prime example of mentality
RIO is always talking about this kid....always lol ,,,Ravel Morrison
