- The Bee Gees were on an incredible hot streak they had not seen even during their first musical career in the 60's. Riding the disco wave, their chart accomplishments were as follows: "Tragedy" was their 8th #1 pop single, their 6th consecutive release to reach #1 and was the second single to reach #1 off the same album (the follow up, Love You Inside Out was their 9th #1 and third single off the same album). The group became a flashpoint for the anti disco movement which was gathering steam and about ready to boil over at that fateful night on July 12, 1979 at Comiskey Park in Chicago. Needless to say, their popularity as artists plummeted, but their production skills kept them in the public eye with Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwicke, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. They never hit #1 again but came close with 1989's "One" which peaked at #7. On a sadder note, Maurice Gibb was admitted to the hospital January 8, 2003 with a blocked intestine, suffered a cardiac arrest and died on January 12. He and his brothers will be remembered for their astounding contributions to pop music and for fuelling the disco machine which would have not been as strong without them.

kind of weird though that the last surviving Bee Gee is Barry Gibb, who's initials are B. G. he is The Bee Gee.

It's sad about Barry Gibb losing all 3 of his bros way too soon. They were a phenom music family. Andy and the Bee Gees, Maurice & Robin....R.I.P😇 They had hits before and after Saturday Night Fever. They'll probably be remembered more for it than their other accomplishments though. Barry was quite a talent as a songwriter also

The first time I heard this was on a juke box.in a LA Rosa's pizzeria. I had to get the album.
Is there anyone in the world reading these comments because I remember listening to this extended edition back on TH-cam a few months ago and it’s very outstanding to listen to because I do not have this on a cassette tape but I have the original single on the Bee Gees greatest hits album.

DJDiscoCat.. Another explosive mix. I had Spirits Having Flown on vinyl when I was in high school. Don't be fooled. I graduated in 1994. A true classic. The Brothers Gibb killed it on this anthem. Definitely on my playlist. This version is fantastic. My first Bee Gees album I had on vinyl was Main Course. This offering from 1979 is absolutely titanic. It hits you like a tidal wave. Long live the Bee Gees. Long live disco!!

Barnabas Collins And two children died as well. The girl, Renée Chen, was just six. The boy, My-Ca Din Le, was seven. She and I would be the same age (40) and the boy would be 42. The footage of the incident is right here on TH-cam. You can't see Morrow and the boy being decapitated but it's still beyond horrific. I believe the footage was used in the trial against Landis. He disgusts me to the core.

No they were not just disco. They really started singing as boys back in 1955 before ELTON JOHN the Beatles or even Elvis. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart clearly was not disco either.

They actually hit #1 by their single you win again in the UK 1987 but USA radio stations were ignoring them as a part of the backlash ... for me The Bee Gees are the real deal in the music industry as they kept their engine running for 50 years of music adaptation and surviving in charts

The rest of the world believed in no backlash and felt nothing; We were never tired of Disco but they wanted to police Disco like they do the rest of world...We were still staying alive and dancing...USA lost on the backlash and it was shameful and small of them to do that out of sheer hatred and jealousy...#NoOneCanKillDisco...
This was on the radio in March 1979, and from that moment on I've loved it. Brings back nice memories of junior high!

I remember 1979 like it was yesterday and 1978 the radio played a BeeGee song every 3rd song. For months it went on and on. I don't regret it one bit I was 11 and 12 years old. I was definitely ready for Heavy Metal after the Disco years.

Grandes bee Gees forever
This is one of my all time favorite Bee Gees Disco song!!! I had a boyfriend in junior high through sophomore year in high school. This was our song when we discovered it! He dropped out during our sophomore year to find himself. Sadly, today I have no idea where he is today. I think of him whenever I hear THIS song!

1979 was a banner year for Disco. I can't believe looking back at that year, the sheer number of huge Disco hits that came out of it. And just noticing the related song suggestions to the right.......none other than the Queen of Disco herself, Donna Summer. The first artist to have three consecutive double albums to reach number one, and charted four number-one singles in the U.S. within a 12-month period from 1979 into 1980. Guess you can tell I do have an affinity for Disco music. And the Bee Gees, the only recording artists in music history to ever have six consecutive number-one hits.
