  • *UPDATE* I bent it pretty bad on the first project. Click this link to see that video: • Clearing Pond Dam - BE...
I am not sponsored or reimbursed by anyone and no one has asked me to say or do anything. I am just a guy making videos and trying to help out the next guy.
This is a Homestead Implements 60" Root Grapple Pinnacle Series. It weighs 330 pounds and is rated for tractors up to 55 hp. I paid $1,900 after the 5% discount that I mentioned in the video. Unfortunately, I just checked their website and the price has gone up slightly. For comparison, Everything Attachments' 60" Wicked Root Rake Grapple weighs 400 pounds, is rated for tractors up to 65 hp and costs $2,650.
I saved $750 and received this grapple about 2 months sooner than if I'd have ordered a Wicked 60". We'll see how this Homestead grapple holds up.

Nice video! To be completely fair and accurate about this, so people aren't mislead... Here at EA, we have many different models, so we can ideally match the proper grapple to the customer's tractor and intended applications. Quite often, guys call us for advice, and our expert, experienced sales staff is always happy to assist. The EA Wicked Grapple which is most comparable to the grapple in the video is our 240 pound Wicked 55, which is offered for $1995. There are many features on the Wicked which, despite it being lighter, make the 55 stronger by design than the one shown in the video. Our first Wicked 55 prototype, back in February 2017, was harshly tested by our 60hp Kubota tractor, and it passed with flying colors. Even though it was the strongest lightweight grapple ever built, we have made quite a few enhancements over the past four years, which could only be learned by time and experience. The Wicked 60, for $2650, which is mentioned in the video, and in the description above, is a totally different animal, with a 3rd hinge point in the center and MANY stronger components and design features, simply because it is built to withstand larger, heavier tractors. All upper pivot points on all Wicked Grapples are greasable. Experience is huge in this industry, and EA is dedicated to provide the best. The combined Wicked Grapple review count on our website is now over 1,250, and, in our minds, we're just getting started. I hope this helps to explain a few differences and clears up a few unknowns.

"Root rake top lid is designed for raking loose material backwards and not intended to pry or pull embedded objects such as roots or stumps." - EA
But you say the same thing about pulling with the lid on both grapples. I like the 60". Really do, but the rise in price to $3000 is a bit much for a vet on disability. Obviously $2200 for the homestead ($2000 with vet discount) is not pocket change either and the compromises to get there leaves a good bit of doubt.
With the prices of wood and steel going up practically every other week I'm inclined to just crawl back into bed for another year :)

@@midniteoyl8913 The EA grapple closest to the homie grapple(but not close at all, if you know what you're looking at) is our Wicked 55, which is currently $2,200. Yes, the steel market is kinda like the lumber market, currently. CRAZY!!!

@@TriggerTravels We're around 14 weeks or so behind, due to crazy demand, but we're doing all we can to build as quickly as possible. The steel industry, along with many more industries, has been doing wild with price increases, but we've kept ours to a minimum. That's beyond our control. Tried to buy any lumber, ammo, gas, etc. lately? We greatly appreciate your service. EA has always put our best prices on the website, rather than leaving room for sales/discounts/coupons like many online businesses. With a lot of them, you'll get an emailed coupon for your next purchase. If they could give it, why didn't they take it from your first purchase? That's not how we roll. I ordered an EA Wicked 60 about 6 weeks ago so I should have it within the next 6 weeks. Like you, it's to wet to use it now anyway which I also took into consideration when I ordered, regardless of which one I ordered I wouldn't be able to use it until summer, so I didn't mind the extra wait time. My second choice was the Homestead. What sold me on the Wicked 60 was not only does it have a 3rd hinge in the middle, each hinge has double "arms" about 3 inches apart which has to be stronger than Homesteads single arms. So the Wicked 60 has 6 arms for hinges compared to Homesteads 2....which is the reason it weighs 100 lbs more. I'm sure either brand would have suited me just fine, but I'm pretty certain I'll never regret my choice. Good luck and keep the videos coming.

$870? I'd tell them where they could pack sand. When I was thinking about buying the Homestead I was watching all of Hank's videos....because that's the only videos there were....and I kept seeing that lid flex in the middle. The bottom looks pretty solid but that lid and single arm hinges...I'm not feeling it.

At first glance that unit looks lightweight. But it may be built from higher quality steel, like 75/100k psi strength steel.

So I just saw this video How is the second grapple holding up? Was the piece on the right side that looked crocked a problem. Can't justify the EA price and wait time. I had a very good grapple but the weight was to much (860 lbs) But now I am having trouble finding one that isn't 12 weeks out.

I never got a second grapple. If I had it to do all over again, I’d have waited for the EA. That’s why I went with Homestead. Their delivery was only slightly quicker than EA.

I am looking at the same 2 grapple manufacturers, and as you had noticed, Homestead Implements as a fairly new company does not have many reviews out there. There are features I like on each grapple, I was looking at Homestead 60' and the EA 55" not 60". It has only been a few weeks, but how are you liking the 60" Homestead grapple? Was there an alignment issue with the yoke on the hydraulic cylinder, or did that straighten itself out once it was cycled? I have contacted both companies, both were receptive and seem to have good customer support. The Homestead 60" weight is 280 pounds, the 330 listed is the shipping weight which includes the 50# pallet. The Homestead tines are 1/16 thicker, but the EA has the laminated lower tines. The Homestead tines are also 2 inches longer from the bar to the tip, 8" vs 6". Homestead will deliver right to my door, EA delivers to a shipping facility for pickup. EA charges sales tax, Homestead does not within my state. EA has a cult like following, they must be doing something right, and having talked with them regarding numbers, EA has sold ~10x more grapples, and continue development/improvement based on their experience and longer company history. Seems like anything, they both have advantages and disadvantages to each other. Is there anything making you second guess your purchase and wish you would have waited 3 months for the EA?

As of right now, I haven't used the grapple at all. I mounted it and parked the tractor. It's been a little too sloppy for me to be working in the areas that I want to use the grapple. Mostly I've been working on the wood chipper. I haven't had any second thoughts about buying the Homestead unit. I figured out that it was almost 40% cheaper than the EA unit. That's a big difference. We'll see how it holds up. Hopefully I'll be using it soon. Sorry I couldn't be any more help yet.

@@robhoffman510 That was a 3 year old comment. I did buy the Homestead grapple in late Feb of 2021, and it was delivered in April 2021. Been used a lot and no issues. With the experience I've had, I would recommend it. They have improved the top lid design to strengthen it, though I have the old design like the video above, and have not had any problems, and no EA drama which even 3 years ago was part of the deciding equation.
