The Legacy Ohio Central horn really reverberates louder and is more full, but for all it’s worth, the Lion Chief Conrail is right up there in sound. I’m leaning towards the OC, but I wouldn’t shy away from the Conrail. It’s very impressive.
Thanks so much for another great video. I really appreciate seeing your beautiful train layout the Ohio has the best horn. It's nice and loud and deep and gutsy. The Conrail just doesn't have that deep powerful sound. I really enjoy your videos and everything that you are teaching and sharing with all of us in the hobby. Please keep the videos coming and pretty soon you'll have over a thousand followers. All of you guys that live in the east have basements in which you can have large train layouts. Living on the west coast is so much different. If we wanted something that large we would have to take up a couple of rooms and knock out some walls. LOL. Thanks again. Please keep the videos coming. We really enjoy seeing them.
Great job Chris. I totally agree that the Lionel family of Lionchief products are fantastic and a great value for the money. Excellent comparison of engines. Thanks for doing it.
I use the lion chief Universal controller, it also runs older lion chief lokies without Bluetooth, I actually think the Universal remote will run the Menards F 3,
Thanks for a great review of the Lionchief SD80MAC, Chris! It certainly has lots of great features for the price. However, I must admit that I really like the Legacy horn sound better...more typical to my experience!
Thanks for the excellent review, Chris. The LionChief Plus 2.0 SD-80 is quite impressive. I'm not sure which horn I like better. Both sound very good and probably sound like the prototype engine they are a model of. I would be happy with either engine though I don't think the OC would run on my O36 curves.
A fantastic review thanks for sharing Chris! I love anything Conrail so that 80mac is a thumbs up in my book, also I do like that horn it has definitely a rockin horn!
Nice video, I have two LC + steam engines and they both run and sound great. Its a great system that works well. Btw the universal remote will also run legacy in a limited manner. You get all major things like horn, whistle steam, swinging bell and other major components that is available in legacy. Its good for someone that does not have allot legacy engines. or can run a smaller legacy engine like the A5 and the H10 without spending the money for a full legacy system. It seems Lionel has their eye on the ball.
I have one of the Lionmaster SD80MACs that came with the Lionmaster Conrail sets from 10ish years ago. This appears to be the same model with updated electronics. I might have to pick one up so I can have a pair!
As someone that's not interested in most of the modern bells and whistles that people look for when they're doing scale modeling there are a lot of features on those engines that I would never use. They sure are nice looking though so they'd be welcome to take a few miles on my rails. Great video
Haha - awesome video. Loved the simulation lmfao. Apparently the new S1 can also be run by Bluetooth like I guess they all can now. The fantasy Tuscan paint scheme has me salivating.
@@RBPTrains We were just chatting about it on discord earlier today once his video went up. I might buy one. I just made my last purchase in G scale - have had LGB (original German made) trains for many, many years. They;re about 34 years old now most of them (as old as I am almost exactly haha). Going to be buying a few engines and a bunch of track. So indecisive, though.
I have been waiting forever for Lionel to release the Lionchief Plus 2.0 AC-12s, and now that I am in college and not at home to see mine when it arrives it looks like they might actually finally be in stock soon, if they don't push it back for the thousandth time.
Amazing model trains, very different of those we've in Europe, mostly in H0 and N scales. It's really strange to me to see that 3rd rail in the middle of the track. But what a beautiful engines. Regards from Spain.
Chris, nice description of the different choices of Lionel. What is the main difference between Lionchief Plus and 2.0? Also, how much more is the price, roughly?
Chris, I have a 4100 also. There is an "Easter egg" you did not report in your excellent video! Yours should have the five levels of bell and horn sounds , just like Legacy, just as mine does. Try it out!
I love your layout, it's so beautiful i just wish you had a go pro so you could put a flat bed car in front of your train and give us a ride around your layout
Hi Destiny - my very first video is an onboard view. I need to update since I completed the scenery though. Check that one out here! th-cam.com/video/ASl5c7MZ5Zc/w-d-xo.html
The new SD80 is pretty impressive. But the SD40-2 wins the horn war. And I’m not saying that just because it is my favorite road engine of all time. Lol
Hey Chris that was a nice introduction I believe the legacy Ohio Central have a much better horn sound. I have lionchief plus 2.0 Norfolk Southern SD60m and the horn on that one sounds fantastic.
I can't believe that I have been missing out on this. I have seen so many of these online but had not experienced one on my own. The Legacy sounds are hard to beat for sure!
I just started operating this same engine (different number) under TMCC and gotta say there's a lot of button pushing for all these functions. Holy Crap!
i really hope someone can help me out with this. i have a Lionel Legacy Bluetooth SD70ACe UP engine and i also have the Lionel LionChief app as well. just recently my engine disconnects from the Bluetooth on my android phone and it wont connect at all. well it does byt then when i go to the control screen it disconnects. can someone pls help me out with this problem?
I assume this question must've been asked already, but I gotta ask: why do you have a third rail on all your tracks? Is this a support rail of some sort, like on mountain/high slope trains, or is this a way to use the same system for different gauges?
Great question! The third rail delivers power to the engines. 3-rail O Gauge is a bit odd in this regard when compared to the more prototypical track that you see in other scales.
You can absolutely run the Lionchief engines. If you do not have a Lionchief or Legacy remote, you can download the Lionchief app for free and use your phone or tablet (via Bluetooth). Great way to get the engine on the track and rolling!
I have a lot of LionChief and railing engines with my 48 “ curves they work great for the money Thanks for another fun video but I have to say the Ohio central has a better sound
I have a friend who helped me with the benchwork. I crafted the scenery details with various scenery products and used Woodland Scenics and MTH structures. I will create a video in the next few weeks detailing the build so I can explain how everything came together. Great question!
It is kind of cool they can go so slow but what really counts is how fast they can go, when I was a kid I could do spin outs with my Rock Island loco, I could lift the inside wheels off the rails going around turns, it was a blast. I guess they don't make them as good as they use too, but they look just as good and that counts too. Thanks for sharing.
Love running them fast as well. I had this one cranking pretty good (not on camera). My fastest engines are my Post War steamers. I hear you on them lifting off the rails around the turns!
This is what lion chief should have been from the start. I have the original lion chief sets (Silver bell express and Santa Fe RS3 Alco set). Both were nice at first but haven’t held up at all, complete junk. This conrail unit seems way better, much better version of lion chief, would be perfect it was scale sized.
I have seen every one of your videos and seeing your beautiful layout and trains it never gets old
Thank you for all of your support Jacob! It’s been a great time making these videos
your enthusiasm is needed,, to keep our hobby moving forward....thanks
Thanks Lonnie!
Realy like the engines BRO, COOL LAYOUT MAN COOL!😛😊😁😮💙👍👍
The Legacy Ohio Central horn really reverberates louder and is more full, but for all it’s worth, the Lion Chief Conrail is right up there in sound. I’m leaning towards the OC, but I wouldn’t shy away from the Conrail. It’s very impressive.
That’s probably one of the best locomotives I’ve seen in a long time
It is a great piece. I still can't believe how many high end features it has. Thanks for watching Evan!

Honestly lionel is making these 2.0 models better and better with every relase!! Great video

Thanks Peter!
Those horns are absolutely amazing! What a great little train.
Great video as always, Chris.
Thanks for watching Zodiac! This engine really impressed me!
I have to second Jacob's comment, you have a great railroad and a great youtube channel. I get the bell everytime you upload a video.
I use the lion chief Universal controller, it also runs older lion chief lokies without Bluetooth, I actually think the Universal remote will run the Menards F 3,
Your layout is amazing & videos are excellent.
Thanks for watching JR!
Awesome video as always my friend. I'd see the NS Heritage units from time to time in the Conrail paint scheme when I was in Pittsburgh.
Dude, you have some REALLY nice stuff.
Thanks for watching Golden Manuever!
Sweet ride! Gotta love that Conrail blue 🚂💨👍🏻
Hey buddy, this is a great video. First time I really paid attention to the lionmaster stuff.
Lion Chief is a great product...hope Lionel continues to expand and expand the Lion Chief models and road names...thanks for the review! T4
I agree! I can’t believe it took me this long to finally try a Lionchief Plus 2.0 model. Now I’m hooked!

looks good and really convenient for younger generations
Absolutely! This model is great for beginners and collectors. The Bluetooth capability out of the box adds so much to the operational capabilities!
Hey Chris! The 2 Dot 0 Sd80mac is AWESOME! I had no idea you were running trains when I called you about the excel spreadsheet LMAO
Haha! Sorry to put you on hold like that but some things are more important!
Great video! Also nice Big Mac reference
Haha! Glad you caught that :)
Those crew talk sounds are better than some legacy engines, love them!
I agree! Makes it so much more interesting to operate
Awesome video I like the Ohio central horn 🎷 amazing collection 👌 and amazing 👏 God bless you 🙏 and your family 👪
Thank you Eric! Same to you!
Can never beat Legacy but the 2.0 Lionchiefs are quite amazing

Nice engine, great value, keep up the great work
like the second horn sounds great

I’ve been wanting to buy one of these in csx. Thanks for the video
Charles Rico has them for 404
The legacy Ohio central was my choice of whistle. More full fidelity sound..thanks for telling us about the lionchief product
As someone that's not interested in most of the modern bells and whistles that people look for when they're doing scale modeling there are a lot of features on those engines that I would never use.
They sure are nice looking though so they'd be welcome to take a few miles on my rails.

Lionel sure makes some nice engines in LC+..awesome video..
Good video and I believe Lionel should make more 2.0 products

Meant to say amazing layout
For a college student this seems like the best deal ever to buy a LionChief 2.0
Definitely a lot of value in these models!
That's a lovely thing 👌

Hahahaha! I enjoyed that stream and yes, I worked on the Legos the whole time
Sweet Conrail Lioncheif Engine!
Hi Chris -- can you run the ditch lights with the Bluetooth app or universal remote, or can you only run that feature with the Legacy remote. Thanks!
Nice looking locomotive!
Just my opinion. Not a fan of modern Era lionel. Postwar lionel is where my passion is. You truly have a beautiful layout keep up the great work.

That is very very cool.
where did you buy your sd80mac i can't find them anywhere i was gonna go for a csx since thats my local railroad

Love the Conrail, and the Ohio Central both. What is the minimum curve required for them.
Conrail can run on O31. The OC needs O54. Great question Bryan!
