For other folks who might have *mathy* kids as well, Dr. Shormann offers Calculus 1 and Calculus 2. Taking both of those prepares your student to take the AP Calculus BC exam (if they so choose). At most colleges, scoring well on the AP exam will give your student credit for 2 math classes (8 credits), which is definitely a money and time saver!

We’ve been doing the biblical archeology as a family this year. My parents come over for it too, so they are in their 70’s and then and 8th grader and senior. We’ve loved it

I have a 23 year old who read the Pharohs book as part of another curriculum in high school. She enjoyed it so much that when we were at the Ark for a conference in fall, she bought her own copy(to read again), and the Kings book which is newer.
Just to encourage you that your boys I think will enjoy the course if their interests lie there to begin with! 😊
I am planning to have my youngest do the course, my daughter thought it could also count as an “Ancient History” history credit.

When you dual enroll do they have to go to college or can they take some courses online with the college? We are thinking of doing this in the future with dual enroll but I'm not sure about my child going in person. Of course that's still a few years away so she may mature much more by then! All these choices sound great! Can't believe they are this old since I've followed you for about 7-8 years! It's crazy how fast it goes!!

What made you decide to use BJU for government and economics instead of Notgrass? From what I understand, Notgrass has recently updated their government and economics as well. I know from watching your other videos that you and your kids have enjoyed Notgrass in the past. We have also enjoyed using Notgrass that’s why I was curious as to why you switched. My 9th grade son is finishing their World Geography and will be using Notgrass World History for the next school year.

How do you do the Spanish courses? Do you get just the books? Or the DVDs? Or the online program? I'm having trouble figuring out which one to go with.... Looking at Spanish 1 BJU for my 9th grader.... I know nothing about Spanish so I know I can't teach it.

Curious what your thoughts are on doing summer studies, specifically electives courses at the high school level. My daughter is a rising 9th grader and I'm thinking it might be good for her to do an elective of her choice during the summer to kind of ease her into high school. We generally do some kind of summer studies/unit study during summer. Have you done this for high school level course? Thanks!

    • @GraceandGrit

Electives during summer or even a core class can significantly reduce course load during the "regular" school year.

Hi! Thanks so much for all you share. I was wondering when you started electives, like the Biblical archeology course you talked about? I am just starting into the middle school years and we have pretty much stuck to the basics up to this point. Also, is that course something you’d do daily or just a couple times a week? Thanks so much!
