Just like at their home bases. Only on austere forward airfields, where there isn't any ground handling equipment, or enough space to ground maneuver, will they use reverse thrust to power back.
Water in the fuel tanks can cause havoc like this or a wrong Grade of Diesel Fuel will effect engine damage? Or, gasoline was pumped into the aircraft other than diesel and you get a very different kind of experience!

Tapatiaplus, igualmente yo soy piloto y a lo menos una vez el se quemó el motor del tren de aterraje, aquí en Curitiba (CWB), Brasil. Era mi primer vuelo en el avión de mis sueños, un Piper Twin Comanchee azul y blanco. La suerte es que el comandante era muy experimentado. Hicimos esfuerzo más allá de lo humano y fué posible hacer el tren bajarse manualmente. Si no fuera ello, el avión había de terminar con grandes daños. Anos después, mi amigo cayó en el Rio Guaíba (Porto Alegre) con el mismo avión.

A layman will say that it is a childish play. When the smoke emanate from tail unit, a number of people would have witnessed including from control room. Controller might have been alerted the pilot to come back. What were the conversations between crew and control room. Don't make the people fool.

They do not use diesel fuel. The run on AV Gas, which is closer to kerosine.
