    I had a small collection of Studebakers including a 60 Lark 8 convertible. Great car that I wish I still had. You brought back memories.

    My family had a brand new fire engine red Lark wagon back in 1962. Man, these are lovely orphans!

    well I wish I could say this car is 10 years older than I am but no we're the same age. I enjoyed this video because as a child I remember the next door neighbor had two Larks, his and her, white for him and blue one for his wife. I always thought the creamy white was a beautiful car. In my opinion these cars looked great and modern with their simple body lines...a great car!

    Lovely looking car. I used to know someone who had a 1959 Studebaker Lark. His was a 4 door sedan like this. The colour looked like this. His had a V8 engine powering it. It also had an automatic gearbox. Its interior was basic, without a radio of any kind, nor power windows. I remember the interior being original survivor, meaning nothing had been repaired or re-upholstered.

    I've owned dozens of Larks from most all years of production. Little known fact, Studebaker and Porsche fielded prototype Larks with rear engine Porsche power. Had they had continued with that product it would have been an interesting vehicle. Far safer than the Corvair, or VW, the Porsche powered Lark would have sold well.

      @Friedbrain11 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your jibe at the Corvair is undeserved by that car. It was proven as safe as any other car on the road. I have owned 3 Corvairs and loved the handling, the better fuel mileage, and the lack of coolant/radiator.

      @@Friedbrain11the point being that the Lark was a bigger, heavier, higher off the ground and more stable car than the Corvair, and nothing else need be assumed. Having owned 100's of classic cars myself, I appreciate where the Corvair fits into automotive history. The turbocharged 4 speed Monza's were excellent performing cars, as well as many of the lesser powered examples.

    My brother bought one in 1960. Red with a white convertible top. 259 v8 with a three speed and overdrive transmission. It was a great car ran flawless always and surprisingly good on gas. His first new car and probably the best , such a shame they are gone.

      Every car Studebaker made were filled with imagination and sass. Why they went out is beyond sad. Cars today are just boring, and not well made. Reflective, unfortunately, of the times. We should demand and male better.

    Nice Lark! Was a high school senior in 1982-3. 0-60 in 10 seconds would beat almost anything in the parking lot except for the few kids who had pre-73 stuff. If the time is credible, this would have been a super sleeper - in a straight line. [I've seen 10 sec cited too, but have also read road tests that indicate 12 or a bit under - still blowing all of its contemporary competition out of the water] Anyway, you've got a perfect gig going / my ideal hobby job if I can just make it through the corporate jungle for another couple of years.....

    • @michaelbenardo5695
      @michaelbenardo5695 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, with stick/OD and a V8, it really could do 0 - 60 in about 10 seconds. Like you said, only some of the pre 73 stuff might beat it.

    The Automotive God's must have blessed the Lark because it's just a charming and likable today as 63 years ago. The same probably wouldn't be said of an 1896 car in 59, if there was one. Sadly, Studebaker left the United States 4 months after introduction of their 1964 models, and discontinuance of the Lark name. Yes, beautiful color, and interior.

    I had a yellow 59. Broke down on I-71 out of Columbus. Year approximately 68. Just left it. Poor college kid.

    Great channel. Pointing out the flaws and putting the price out there makes me come back to this channel. In my dreams... a 1960s daily driver full size Mopar wagon. Something to throw guitars, amps, and drums in.

      I learned to drive in a flat head 6 Lark wagon. It did have overdrive transmission, a radio, full wheel covers, and was two tone green with white trim. It was super dependable and we owned it for years. The last Studebaker was a '64 4dr sedan. It was luxurious compared to the Lark wagon. Again, we owned it for a very long time, and it was trouble free transportation.

    Biggest problem for the Lark (and other Studes) was rust. You’d think being manufactured in the Rust Belt, they’d be able figure it out.

    • @Friedbrain11
      @Friedbrain11 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That actually applied to all vehicles produced back then though. All of the '60s vehicles had rust problems of some sort or another.

    I’m old enough to remember these.
    A neighbor had one .
    There was also someone in the next neighborhood who always had a new Studebaker, and I remember they had a 1966, for their last one. As this was in St.Louis Missouri, I assume they must have been a dealer (?). Anyway, my favorite American car brand, Studebaker.
    Especially the later models.
    (( by the way, I’m an Auto Detail Technician, and specialize in Paint Corrections on older/vintage vehicles. Transformations can be amazing.))

    I loved the Larks, and they did save the company at the time. I would buy one if I could find the right one. A friend of mine had one, at the year they came out, and I don't recall his with a covered dash.
    Nice car and you did well presenting it and the history of the model.
    Cheers,
    Lee

      I had a Valiant, and the next car I wanted to own was a '60 Lark 4-door. Why I let the Valiant go was being a Mopar, it was a proud ruster, and it did. There was back in '97, a white Lark 4-door, for $900.00. I considered it, but the old bird 🐦 needed restoration and work. I needed transportation, and ended up with an '83 Peugeot 505 STI. But if I get to choose a classic car, it WILL be a Lark, probably a '63 Land Cruiser. Wagonaires are great but rare finds, and you need a car club behind you to even find one, and, be sure and HAVE a garage, their water leakage issues and greater rust potential are a handful. All Larks steal my heart away, but my favorite is the '61 Regal Hardtop (remember Wilbur Post Mister Ed?). Just avoid the Super Skybolt Six if you find one; they have cylinder head cracking issues. The V8s are more reliable. I have loved Studes since a friend of our family drove a black '63 non-Wagonaire solid roof with Regal trim all around, and a contemporary red and white interior. That was when Studebaker caught my heart, and I vowed when I got my first car, it would be a '63 Lark Regal trim wagon in black, I also believe it was our family friend's passing of natural causes that fostered the yearning in me, as well as the general love of that car that stood to reason why I wanted one just like it

    I don't know what you mean by "platform" but the body that was shortened to create the Lark began in 1956.
    The 1953-1955 Studebaker was a far more aerodynamic design.

      You are thinking of the coupes, Larks were based on the 53 Champion sedan models with the 55 1/2 wrap around windshield.
