With the way things are today....you tend to think back on fond memories of simpler times. Wonderama was representative of just that. Great show as a kid.

How Bob McAllister was treated is an outrage.

Bob McCallister, Mel Blanc and Mr Rogers helped raise us Gen X kids and we’re forever grateful.

As a teacher in a time of remote learning I have a renewed appreciation of all the Bob Mcallister types who were so good at engaging with children.

I watched Wonderama for many years as a kid growing up. I started with host Sonny Fox and then Bob McCallister. I believe Bob McCallister had a great way with his kids. Wonderful show for that era.

I loved Bob McAllister's Wonderama as a kid. What a great guy. And Bill Boggs was an important part of 70s and 80s NY TV. Good interview.

Best show for a kid; ever. Most of the kids on the show ended up being related to t.v. employees, btw. I always thought I could have won the dance off for a bicycle. ;-)

@@luvyesmusici4886I hope I can back up your comment with evidence. I worked on the show and very few employee kids were on the show. The show had a 5 year waiting list for tickets. Because of this, they had very few openings for employees offspring.

My one claim to fame, having appeared on Wonderama as a child in the 70s. Got to meet Bob McAllister backstage. I was an 8-year old starstruck kid. Thanks for posting, Bill Biggs. You're remembered fondly from my youth too with Midday Live. And weren't you connected with the Morton Downey Jr. Show? That provided some over-the-top entertainment in the 80s.

Thank you, yes. I was executive producer of Downey show. Also spent 10 years on Food Network. Glad you found the video. If you're on Instagram, pls follow me @realbillboggs

Bob McAllister was the founder of Kid Stuff Records since the beginning in 1971, and then they put out a series of children’s albums including audiobooks, read-along books, and character licensed albums including Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, etc.

Only 31 comments, shows how much we have forgotten.
    He was a good influence.
Hope he did not get canned like that. Shameful if he was.
Be proud of your work. Do quality work, that’s all you can do. Don’t expect others to appreciate it though.
    RIP Sir.

This is a great post. Bob McAllister was the "real-deal." Totally genuine, and he got it. He was disappointed at the cancellation of not himself, but for the show "Wonderama" for he truly believed in what the show brought to children of that time (and I was one of them). The energy and repoire he had with children was immeasurable, and he stood amongst the greats with children's television with such people as Bob Keeshan (Captain Kangaroo), Shari Lewis, and many others at that time. Although his show may have be commercially funded, the show and it's characters were not commercially based as is many "children's" shows that you see on television today INCLUDING today's Sesame Street, etc. Bob was right then as is the truth today; we need more shows geared FOR the children, and we as parents should remain ACTIVE with our children as well in which shows we allow and not allow them to watch. "Well have you heard any good news today, today?" That's exactly what we need. Thank You Bill Boggs for sharing this, and Thank You Mr. Bob McAllister for your dedication you had toward children, families and DECENCY, Rest in Peace.

@@Billboggshey Bill, I was a tape operator for your show. I know you did your show from studio-1. I was in the tape room when u had the streaker run thru the studio and it went out over the air LIVE. We laughed hysterically when that happened. I know the tape was saved for evidence

I never knew that Wonderramma went 25 years!
But it was one of the shows I remember from those days... My childhood.
After Wonderramma, we had to fall back on the BOZO the clown show, and then, in DC, the "Captain 20," show... WDCA, channel 20.
