      @OwenJackson  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey Matt thanks for watching. regarding your concerns around temperature, a lot of the reported benefits of cold happen from 15°C and below so contrary to popular belief, the water doesn’t have to be frozen to gain benefits. It’s all exists on a spectrum obviously can depend on ambient temperature, and where about you are based in the world.
      Additional ice can be added to bring the temperature down, but that obviously brings with it it’s own admin and preparation

    After watching your boots reviews I segwayed into the ice bath stuff .
    I’m an ultra runner ( barefoot ) and have always started the day with a protocol of an early start , a cold shower and a ten mile + run to or cycle to work on an empty stomach .
    I have always been aware of the importance and benefits of the cold shower aspect on the sort of hyperactive intensity of energy it gives me . Friends I know in the running scene own them but generally use them for recovery and to help inflammation post run and race .
    What are your thoughts on the biggest benefits , is it the energy lift side or the recovery potential ? I appreciate both are a good thing but curious what you would say is the overarching benefit ?
    Ordered one this week and it’s arrived and I will set it up over the weekend .

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely, your routine sounds incredibly invigorating! The cold showers can truly offer a jolt of energy like no other, boosting that intensity you mentioned. While many use cold immersion primarily for recovery and inflammation post-exercise, the biggest benefit can vary based on personal drivers.
      For me, it's that dopamine surge and heightened energy, the physical and mental resilience-almost a spiritual connection between mind and body. That journey led me into exploring breathwork and its incredible effects.
      Traditionally, the recovery aspects are heavily documented, but your experience might evolve. What initially drove you may not be what keeps you going, and that's perfectly fine. It's all about discovering what works best for you. Enjoy setting up your new addition this weekend 🙏🥶

    How often do you need to change the water? Do you put chlorine?

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I don’t use chlorine. I give the tub a good clean with non toxic chemicals during water changes. During winter I change the water about every 7-10days. Sometimes as many as 14 if it’s still clear. I’d advise more regularly in warmer weather. Where are you based? Do you have a tub or looking to purchase one?

    Through the UK winter can it get too cold to use when left out?

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my experience the water hasn't become too cold. It did freeze over the first two weeks of December which was obviously challenging but perfect to build resilience. The pod has lasted well. It wasn't left out all winter, just utilised for periods of time when I needed good access to a cold source

    what is the plug for at the bottom of the bath?

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  ปีที่แล้ว

      The drain pipe drains most of the water. Like 90%. Because the drain pipe is located in the side wall and slightly elevated, there’s still a small puddle of water in the bottom of the pod. So pop open the bottom plug and it will get the last bit out without having to tip up the pod all the way. Hope that make sense. Are you thinking of getting a pod?

    Thanks for vid. Genuine question, but what is the benefit of this over just filling your bath with cold water and maybe shoving some ice in? Is the idea you leave it with cold water in for say weeks, and the insulation keeps it cool? How would that work in summer? Thanks

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question Fionn, and you absolutely nailed it. It is definitely an option to utilise your bath for cold therapy. With or without the addition of ice. As a side note, the studies to do with cold exposure found benefits can be experienced from 15°C and below. So an easy and accessible way of doing it without necessarily needing ice.
      Over the winter I was able to leave the tub outside in the UK and it maintained a decent level of chill without the need for additional ice. Changing the water every couple of weeks to keep it relatively fresh. Here is footage of my recycling bin, I used prior to the tubs. Hey Faris 👋🏻 I guess it depends on numerous factors. How hot are we talking 🥵🌡️❓
      keeping the tub in the shade I’m sure it will help. The tub is also insulated so will help, but you’ll need to add additional ice rather than just rely on the ambient temperature.
      Purchasing bags of ice is one way to do it. I’ve also found by using reusable chiller blocks, that I keep in my freezer, it reduces the amount of ice needed 🧊

      My experience so far is late winter and early spring in the UK so nowhere near as warm as 40° 😅

      Where abouts are you based? Maybe keeping the tub in the shade will help with regulating the temperature

  • @jamesgiles863
    @jamesgiles863 ปีที่แล้ว

    How does it make the water ice cold?

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi James. The pod just keeps the water cold, it doesn’t provide any additional cooling through making ice. If you require ice cold water, ice would need to be purchased separately or adding resizable freezer blocks from the freezer. Or leave it outside during freezing temperatures in winter.
      The science suggests ‘cold exposure’ is from 15°C and below, so doesn’t have to be freezing to receive benefits. However, if you prefer a colder experience that’s fine, and means you don’t have to be in as long.
      Hope that helps. Let me know if I can help further ✌🏻
