Thanks. Yes, definitely do a separate paint splash video, preferably with directional splatters. I can't find anything for Inkscape besides the usual watercolor effects and some randomized star shape magic :) Currently, I'm using vectorized ink splatters, which isn't bad and also works neatly with the pen/custom brush effects. Would be nice to be able to create them from scratch and add some highlights & shadows.
Same here. For a while I found myself doing stuff in Photoshop and then bringing into Inkscape, but I've learned some things can be done faster in Inkscape. (Not everything though. Ha)
I've just started a rework for my POD store banner and I am definitely using this style.......... I'm really excited to try it, I might stay up all night 😂😂😂
After years of playing around on inkscape (and in the last year getting back into it), thought I was getting the hang of lots of things I needed to do.. but then I found your channel and I learn something new each time. Thank you for all the detailed and easy to follow tutorials, would love to see the spray one. You've probably already made it since I'm seeing this later, going to check. Thanks again :)
Thanks so much! Inkscape has improved so much! I did do the paint spray video, and here it is if you want to check it out: th-cam.com/video/VSzbpFt0UtY/w-d-xo.html
Lots of techniques taught in this video - thanks Rick. Hope you haven't caused a surge in graffiti vandalism. Paint splatter video a good idea. Keep 'em coming!
At 1:03 that is such a true statement. I've been making astronomy calendars mostly using Inkscape, and time and time again my thinking needs to be simpler. Usually I end up teaching myself the simplest way of doing something, and then use that piece of knowledge in other designs as well.
Thanks you so much! You're not going to believe this but the name Iron Echo came to me in a dream 20 years ago. Some band had the URL, but I waited for it to go back to the public and snagged it around 2009. Site still under construction though. Ha. I guess I take my time.
again a fantastic video!! and here is a suggestion for future videos: There are tons of tutorials made on illustrator just make them into inkscape and your channel will have a palylist for about 50+ videos probably named as "Inkscape matches illustrator" or "everything can be made in inkscape" or whatever u like it call.
Thanks very much! That’s a great idea for video ideas! I see all the Illustrator tutorials and it’s clear to see why it’s the industry standard. Inkscape is getting closer each year I think though.
It's so funny, the other day I was thinking about paint splatter in Inkscape and not even a couple of days later, there You are, Rick ^^ Great video as always! :)
Great effect! Very cool channel about Inkscape :) I'm curious to see what version 1.3 will bring and it's coming soon! Did you participate in the contest for the cover of the new version?
Thanks!! I'm excited for 1.3 for sure. Hoping ShapeBuilder is part of it. Did the cover contest last year, and I should have tried again this year but I think I spent too much time on this video. Haha.
Such a neat finished product with endless variations! Thanks, Rick! Found all of the techniques shown throughout very informative - even those with which I was familiar served as a helpful refresher! You are so creative with the way you use the different features and tools of the software which just makes your tutorials that much more fun to watch! I'd love a video about paint splatter! I am always mesmerized watching your airbrush tree video 😂 Again, the creativity is just brilliant. Thank you! Also, it would be neat to see how you made some other backgrounds for the graffiti!
@@IronEchoDesign Do you have a way that we can support you? I see your merch, but that's not really my thing. What about something else we can buy or even just a donation link? I just want to show my appreciation for your style and such helpful content.
Oh my goodness, thank you so much! Kind sentiment like this and maybe spreading the word is more than enough. I want my content to always be free, and I hope to find corporate sponsorships to help me grow. Although I am working on writing an Inkscape project book. Anything you'd want to see in there that would make it more interesting?
@@IronEchoDesign Nothing comes to mind. You're helping me see the possibilities, and I'm soaking it up like crazy, but I don't have any specific ideas at the moment. I'll let you know if and when I do. BTW here's my graffiti art that I did this afternoon following your tutorial step-by-step: drive.google.com/file/d/1koJ_uDlbOEQzkH_kxV113_ErPVKZ8U6-/view?usp=share_link The only thing I couldn't get to work was the blur. As soon as I turned it on, even at 0.01, it immediately went full blocky pixellated, so I just skipped that step.
Thanks so much for the video. Brilliant! I love the way you use the tools, very creative. I love using the eraser to create effects, it's underrated 🙂 min 11:04 I recently found a shortcut that makes it very easy to select within a group, with the advantage that you can select pieces from several groups at once, which is great for recoloring CTRL+Click for the first selection and CTRL+SHIFT+click to add selections. The background thing, just wow 💯 By the way, the March challenge of the forum is about Lettering, you can share the link of the tutorial there, it will be a good surprise for sure 😅
Thanks so much!! I really appreciate it, and it's good to give Eraser tool a little love, you know? I'm going to try that shortcut tonight. Thanks! I'll add this to the forum if you think its okay to do that.
I have a request, I have many Comic art "Pencils" in jpg form that I would like to trace. I understand the Trace options in Inkscape, but many of these works when traced, have nodes that are incomplete. I would like to connect them. Maybe you could do video on working with Comic Pencils, tracing and nodes ! Thanks for your work.
I'm trying to start with the letter 'A' with my font designing. Autofill keeps filling up the letter with solid black, and I can't figure out how to turn off the autofill function. Could use some help with that please?
For sure. If you size the way you want the A to look, turn on a Stroke and choose the width you want. Then you can take off the Fill by hitting the X on the Fill and Stroke Menu Fill Tab. Select the A and do Object-to-Path. That will lock in the shape of the A and if you double click on it you can see the nodes and customize it. Hope this helps!
Inkscape 1.3 has made some changes. I’m on a train right now, but from memory, you can try the new Long Shadow feature. Let me know if I can help finding it.
It's a good question. Illustrator has many more features (some I really miss) and is the industry standard. IronEcho... I really want you to succeed because you have great content for your tutorials. BUT. I'm complaining again, you are going too fast!!! It comes across as grab this, grab that, do that and if people are new or semi-new (like myself) to Inkscape and not sure where all the buttons are they will get lost. People don't have time to stop and replay several times to capture where you got what. Even slowing down the video is annoying. We would just go to another tutor on YT that takes their time to explain where they are getting what. I'm not saying go super slow, but all your videos that i've seen so far sounds like you are rushing. I have no problems with other people's videos and I am a pretty fast learner, so I know the problem is not me 😀. I'm sure you would get many more likes and good comments if you slow down your pace. Peace.
The more and more I watch these tutorials on Inkscape, the more and more I realize that this software would be amazing on ipad/android.
Totally agree!! I wish they had it. Future maybe??🤔

Can you use Inkscape to create your own font. I know that’s what you kinda did, but an entire alpha numeric set, if it can that would make great video
