    Tip about fast growing green onions (especially in tight spaces): wait until the plants reach about 20cm (8") in height and instead of pulling them out one by one harvest only the top 5cm (2") or so of the leafs with a sharp pair of scissors. The leaf tips are the most tender and least spicy part anyway, while having the same amount of flavor as any other part of the plant. Providing they get adequate amounts of moisture, light and nutrients they will continue re-growing leafs throughout the year and also much faster than re-growing the entire stem all the way up from the bottom. Some previously cut leaves may dry out, but new ones will continue sprouting from the center, usually you can re-cut the same plant as often as every 5 days or so.

    • @burnyizland
      @burnyizland ปีที่แล้ว

      I just buy them and eat the tops except for the youngest shoot and then plant them and they'll grow with no inputs except a little watering at the height of summer for at least a year, even through winter. In winter they fill their shoots with gel, it works as an antifreeze. Some will grow indefinitely but I find at least a year is the minimum. I use them literally every day - have 9 plants I switch between harvesting and I never cut the youngest shoot on a plant or they take a really long time to grow back and often they don't at all. If you always harvest the oldest shoot first they shouldn't dry out.

    And pea shoots!! Sow any kind of pea seeds thickly in a box, under cover in winter, or in the open garden, and start harvesting the Iarge green leaf tips after about 3 weeks. Keep harvesting every few days for months! A delicious taste of peas whether in salads or stir fried. A wonderful vegetable to grow through winter in a cold frame or greenhouse.

    Thank you so much for doing all those videos! I was wondering if you made or could make a video for helping people who want to convert a yard with regular grass into a garden? I am a little lost with the basics of soil, which compost to buy, the worms, etc? I've watch your compost video, but I don't have a large field like yours to do compost. How to compost at home? I've ordered a worm farm from Costco and I want to start composting, but not sure if I need 1000 or 2000 worms. Sorry too many questions!

    • @DaisyCreekFarms
      @DaisyCreekFarms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I made a video on how to make a garden over grass, its here: th-cam.com/video/Cs4WJc0yBDA/w-d-xo.html You can buy compost, contact a local compost supplier that supplies by yards, it much cheaper. Worms consume half their body weight in a day. So if you have lets say 1 lb of kitchen scraps to feed worms, you ca have upto 2 lbs of worms. I also have a video on making a Worm bin as well

    wish to find your video about sprouting grains....love the Ezekiel tortillas but 6 pieces for $6 is a little expensive.... p.s. many lettuce at the market come with roots, very easy to re-grow the leaves if you put the roots into a pot of soil (it's so obvious!)

    Hi Jag! Great channel there.
    Have a question, I generally add my waste garden leaves and soaked cardboard scraps at the bottom of containers and then fill them up with soil. I then sow vegetable seeds in them. The seeds take a couple of months to grow and start producing depending on the veggie being planted. I sometimes fill upmy containers this way to grow small cuttings as well. Is the technique of adding waste at the bottom if containers bad for the plant growth? Can you please advise?
