  • This is the 2nd 125cc moto from the 2005 125cc Hangtown Motocross in Sacramento, CA.
In 2005, KTM rookie Mike Alessi made his much anticipated debut for his rookie season after making his career debut in the 250cc class last summer aboard a CRF450R 4-stroke at Millville 2004. Riding a KTM 250SXF, Alessi finished his first ever professional 125cc moto with a decent 6th place finish.
In this 2nd moto, Alessi showed he was ready for his first professional win outdoors. He led for most of the race... save for Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Grant Langston taking the lead for a corner or two, but watch what happens on the final lap. Langston, who crashed back to 6th place, came up to challenge the 17-year-old rookie Alessi. Langston tried to cause an upset, but he went for too much and collided with Alessi in the final turn. Langston was able to pick his Kawasaki up and win the moto, but he injured his left foot in the hoopla. As for Mike Alessi, he was totally spent. He tried to push his 250cc 4-stroke KTM up to the FINISH jump, and thought he did... but the AMA said "no" and Alessi was credited with a 15th in the 2nd moto (9th overall).
Oh, and check out the opening report from OLN (Outdoor Life Network) pit reporter Rebecca Staab. History was made in 125cc Motocross because with defending champ James Stewart graduating to the 250cc class, Yamaha of Troy's Brett Metcalfe #123, who was the only rider on a YZ125 2-stroke (with an aluminum frame)... DIDN'T qualify for this Motocross, marking the very first time that no 2-strokes were at the starting gate for an AMA 125cc National.
    Enjoy.

You got that right, and Mike Alessi was no match for him. The sad part is that Langston's desire to run down Alessi in only the 2nd moto of the season (although it worked) resulted in a dislocated ankle, which pretty much ruined his chances for the championship. Although Langston won 4 races (the most of anyone in 2005 125cc MX), his results were sporadic -- he'd do good one week, then do crappy the next two it seemed. One could say that it's surprising Langston ended up 4th overall in the final points tally.

lol -- Alessi was exhausted to say the least since he couldn't push the bike over the line and was run down by Grant Langston.

jon rheaume check out the last moto of the final round of the 2005 season at Glen Helen (if you haven't already seen it). It is an epic example of charma.

Yep. You had to see it coming though with James Stewart leaving the 125 class after 2004.

One of the stupidest things the ama ever did was getting rid of the 125 2 stroke class. They should have a 125 250 and 450.

That's probably what should have happened, but what really DID happen was the 125 2-strokes (not the 2-stroke class) being left behind like yesterday's news.
